The location is not too far from Charlottetown, and the beach access is 10/10. But the house itself if pretty awful - or was when we stayed, and from the photos it does *not* appear they have made any improvements. It is a very old structure and it feels like the house is about to fall into the sea - not sure how sturdy that seawall is. I would rent again at the location if there was no house and I could put up a tent!

So me and my entire family decided to take a few days away in PEI to vacation together and have some relaxing time on the beach.
We found the blue heron beach house and everything sounded amazing.

I saw from the pictures that the decor was very old but had read that she wanted to keep the old feel to the house which is understandable. So I knew going in that it wasn't going to be modern.

When we arrived (14 of us) we were blown away by the amazing view! But the view inside was a whole other story.

We opened the door to the sun room and found the floors so dirty, table unwashed and cup marks all over. The bench was covered with some kind of fir. There was dog toys lying around and a squirrel living in there, oh and a nice musty smell.

So in the house we go. Loved the look of the living room and kitchen but with further inspection we noticed how smelly and dirty the couches and chairs were. Cobwebs and spiders in every corner. If the floors were swept properly there should not have been so many of the webs everywhere.
❗️There were SOOOO MANY FRUIT FLIES!!! ❗️
We had to eat our meals and drink our coffee with them covered or they would be infested with fruit flies. But there was many many fly strips hanging around to try to capture those.
The "clean " dishes in the cupboards were so gross and unclean. We had to wash everything before using.
The floors were so gross that we would not walk bare feet the entire 4 days.

There is 2 bathrooms advertised one with a Toliet, sink and washer and dryer and another with sink, bathtub and something that she calls a shower! So this so called shower is a wooden room in the bathroom where you are not allowed to move the shower head or the water will leak into the downstairs living room. So our tall visitors couldn't shower because the shower head was so low. It was moved a bit so that they could shower and low and behold.... Leakage downstairs.
Let's not forget the completely disgusting toilets that were not cleaned and floors, doors and the bunch of spiders in the corners.

The deck was rotting, there were only thin little see through curtains so we had to find sheets to put over the windows so we could sleep in a bit. The windows and doors are in desperate need of update as they let in so much wind. Be sure to bring sweater, pants and jackets because when the wind blows it's VERY cold in there.

I would also suggest bringing a lot of bottled water as I would NOT drink the water there. It smells so strong of metal. When you shower that's all you smell of after. Your clothes may also be stained from the water in the washer like mine were.

It's so sad because this place has so much potential and is on an amazing piece of property. The view and beach were incredible.

We feel this review is unfair and dishonest. Our cleaners are more than meticulous. This beach house was very clean and tidy when they arrived. Too many people arrived and they tried to squeeze them in; tried to get a bigger discount; made a point of "messing" up the house, pool, and property. All other rentals of the special 1880s oceanfront heritage house last summer were overjoyed with it and its condition. We are saddened by this review and consider it to be untrue.

Without a doubt, the most disappointing trip I have ever taken. The cottage was advertised as "waterfront" - not even close. The proprietor's online ad confirms that the cottage has air conditioning - it did NOT. It notes that there are hammocks and a firepit onsite - this is incorrect. The building was absolutely teeming with mosquitoes for the duration of our stay, the gazebo was filthy and unfit for use, the kayak's provided were lacking oars or any safety equipment of any kind...I can go on and on. For the entire week of our stay we could not wait to leave the cottage every day, we hated our accomodations that much. To add insult to injury, the badminton net our chidlren put up in the front yard was ripped out of the ground, broken and thrown to the side by the proprietor...unbelievable. Our concerns were voiced and absolutely any request for restitution of any kind was completely ignored. The cottage is located at 10 Dunes View and I warn ANYONE looking into it to avoid at all costs. At $2500 this place is an absolute rip off. You have been warned.

We are sad and amazed that these three couples and their families have written a vicious reviews of our beautiful property. Of the 12 families who visited in summer they are the only ones who didn't leave us a warmly favourable reviews. They demanded a rent refund (scam?) and were upset that we did not refund their money when they repeatedly demanded for it after spending a full week at our Ten Dunes View Beachhouse which is very clean, well appointed, well furnished inside and outside. Our place is in a prime PEI beach area on the tip of Blooming Point abutting the National Park ; located 380 ft. from ten miles of pristine bay and ocean beaches. The house is gorgeous, 6 yrs old, has double decks and large attached gazebo with the best patio furnishings; including 4 new chaise lounges; 3 outdoor dining sets; big barbecues and 8 chairs with padded seats and cushions etc. (NOT shown in these above pics). We visited three times the week they were there and called these people to check that they needed anything etc. The ones we spoke to said "we are all having a ball; everything is great; please bring us more toilet paper and garbage bags..." said two of the women who indeed appeared to be enjoying themselves. However, one of their husbands called me to ask for a reduction in the rent they had paid...saying it was too expensive. We said "No" and pointed out the terms on our website which they had accepted on booking. He became strident and abusive and insulted the house, the location (which overlooks panorama of national park seashore, high dues and "endless" beaches and ocean). I terminated his second phone call later that week when he asked for a total rent refund; I denied his request again and he became personally abusive. Three days past and we visited again with more supplies and some water toys for the children etc. The families were on the decks barbecuing, partying and obviously enjoying themselves. We told them we were glad they were having fun! But the next day I got another call from same male "guest"...he was adamant that we refund rent money; I refused and he shouted at me more insults re: property and repeated "I will report you to the tourism complaint dept and I will get our money refunded and put you out of business; then he hung up noisily... Check Out Saturday arrived... they had called tourism officials who came out and were shown alleged problems (curtain rod; pile of garbage, broken patio chair). We were shocked and stressed at what had been done to our neat, clean, tidy and fine deck furnishings. FYI: They set up the pictures you see here to stage manage and illustrate their TA reviews. The Tourism Inspector came and did a final review of the property and house; please see it on Quality Tourism system reports' site. It gives our beach houses a fine "recommended" review. But sadly, due to these Trip Advisor one star awful reviews our business is not doing well for the first time in 25 years we have been welcoming guests. Sincerely; Barbara M. MacAndrew owner, general manager Blue Heron Hideaways Inc. Box 593, Cornwall, PEI C0A 1H0 CANADA

Words can't describe how amazing this trip was. My partner and I live in Ottawa and decided to visit PEI last summer. We booked this beach out and have booked it again for this year.
Driving up to the house you can feel yourself letting go of that "outside world stress". once out of your car you are taken away from the beautiful ocean view and sound of the waves. If you are looking for a quiet get away and stress free week I strongly suggest this property.
Can't wait to be back :)

Returning to Blue Heron Hideaways this August! My daughter and I were blessed to learn about this amazing vacation destination from an aunt involved with the property. We have visited now five times in the last decade.

If you like raucous parties, a loud nightlife and huge crowds, then this place is NOT for you! But if you love spectacular and near empty pristine beeches, stunning sunsets and a fantastic panoply of family adventures in the surrounding area, everything from kayaking to horseback riding, scuba diving to local theatre and superb restaurants, then this is your spot. A truly memorable family vacation.

It is a true respite, with lovely salt-water air and ocean wave sound that regenerates the spirit. A ceaseless visual splendour will keep your camera clicking. Your children will insist upon the annual return!

A vacation in PEI really is like living an Anne of Green Gables novel. The location of this place is advantageous, because Charlottetown and its restaurants and theatre are close, along with a variety of picture postcard style vistas and events. And if you go to PEI and don’t stay by the ocean, then you miss out on so much. The hotels are okay in Charlotttetown, sure, but there is no comparison.

The beech house, an old reimagined train station, is spectacular, with its amazing fire place, great kitchen and numerous rooms and bedrooms, all tastefully done in maritime fashion. The roundhouse nest is also adorable and has its own kitchen and bathroom facilities. It isn’t hotel modern: its by-the-sea perfection.

The water, being supplied by well, is fine for showers etc, but we filtered water for cooking and drank bottled water. A near by town has an excellent grocery store. Keep in mind that some parts of the island early in the summers get quite buggy. But that’s not a problem at the beech house. The proximity to the ocean and near constant breeze keeps the air fresh and the bugs away. Just three months to go and I get to experience it again!

Thank you so much! We agree! It is such a delightful place; no other like it. Looking forward to seeing you back again to enjoy our special renovations in pool area, solarium, kitchen, parlour, bedrms etc. But not too worry we are being careful to keep its 1880s charm left from the era when our big beach house was a once grand railway station. Kind regards, Barbara and Shaun MacAndrew, owners, PEI
