The Great George hotel charms guests with its central location, earning praise for its proximity to dining, shopping, and the waterfront. While the service is generally commended for being friendly, there have been some reports of delays. The hotel's atmosphere delights many with its tastefully decorated rooms and attention to detail, though the lobby's comfort received mixed reviews.
Amenities such as the complimentary breakfast and happy hour are popular, despite a few noting a reduction in offerings. Opinions on value and room experiences vary, with some guests facing billing issues and noise concerns.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed in a newly-renovated king suite in one of the historic homes. The suite was clean, well-appointed and quiet. The heated floor in the washroom and the electric fireplace were nice touches. When we arrived, the manager helped us locate parking near our room and then assisted us with our embarrassing amount of luggage as we were on the second floor and there was no elevator. Breakfast was served in the main lobby and the food was week above what you get in the big chain restaurants. We were able to enjoy happy hour a few evenings as well. And the hotel is right in the middle of restaurants, theatre and beautiful walks. I can’t say enough good about the level of service and friendliness of staff. No matter what was asked, staff offered help—even when I wanted to know how long a load of laundry would take (varies on the temperature of the water). And yes—laundry detergent and softener is provide free of charge. Just another nice touch that made our stay really enjoyable.

The best hotel we stayed in on our tour of Canada’s east coast, we really can’t sing it’s praises enough. Thinking about our stay here even now, a couple of weeks later, still puts a smile on our faces!
The atmosphere was relaxed, convivial and efficient without being stuffy. We also realised we were following in great footsteps as Rod Stewart and Elton John have stayed in the past!
The greeting was really friendly but also very professional which did certainly make you feel welcome, we had the room at the top of D A Bruce House and the reception staff took our bag and showed us all the way up. Very big, very well furnished and decorated with a large modern bathroom. It was a bit like a loft room in a heritage building. It also came with its own private roof terrace opposite the apartment which made a lovely place to catch up with things at the end of the day. Week days there is a happy hour with free drinks in the evening and a complementary breakfast in the large lobby in the morning. We sat in some chairs without a table the first morning and within a couple of minutes two folding tables materialised to make life easier. That was typical of the attention to detail of the place. If you forego housekeeping for a day you can get $10/person towards a restaurant bill at a number of the local restaurants. The location is also ideal for walking around Charlottetown.
The parking is very convenient and also included.

We checked in but unfortunately had a small problem with our room. However, the girl on the reception desk dealt with the problem totally professionally and quickly changed our room (I think with a small upgrade) to our total satisfaction. The staff throughout were incredibly helpful and welcoming. Small details like a free drink at happy hour (5-6pm), coffee and cookies in the afternoon and a brilliant selection of interesting games on the tables of the beautiful reception area all contributed to an enjoyable stay. The room was well decorated and very comfortable. Parking was easy and the hotel so well situated there was no need to move the car to visit anything in the town. By far the best accommodation of our tour of Maritime Canada so far, and we would love to return to the Great George.

The Great George is a series of heritage homes that have been collected within a couple of blocks in the centre of this historic City. The buildings have been lovingly restored and formed into a first class Hotel. Fully modernized to provide all the comforts one might expect in a five star hotel (like underfloor heating in the bathroom ) while maintaining the character and feel of yesteryear.
We stayed at The Great George for three wonderful nights (party of four) and cannot speak highly enough of the accommodations and service. Our suite was very spacious and came fully equipped with kitchen facilities and a much appreciated gas fireplace. Breakfast is served in a very comfortable lounge in the main building and is one of the best “Continental” breakfasts found in any Hotel ( Current Covid restrictions apply) Ian, the guest experience Manager is a treasure and helped us plan itineraries, recommend and book restaurants, and took care of our every request.
It would be a mistake to stay anywhere other than the Great George when visiting Charlottetown.

The Great George is one of our favourite places to stay in Charlottetown - great location, the staff are wonderful and onsite parking is included with the booking, as is an happy hour drink. Don't be fooled by the outside corner house look - the inside has all the amenities and space of a modern boutique hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was, however, disappointing. Comfort Inn does a better lobby breakfast at half the price, and you can get better coffee at an Irving Big Stop.

The staff were lovely.
Complimentary chocolate chip cookies in lobby were good. However the suite we were given had a glass wall separating the shower and bedroom. Zero privacy. Anyone in the bedroom had a lovely view of you taking a shower or standing at the sink. Unpleasant feeling of vulnerability. If you got up in middle of night to use the bathroom you couldn’t turn on the light as it would flood the bedroom with light. Not sure who’s design idea this was but… Also, single use plastics in the bathroom and also at breakfast. I thought they’d been banned but apparently not. Breakfast was poor quality, few healthy options, zero stars for the coffee. Beds and pillows were comfortable but thin duvet so we requested blankets for second night.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We are sorry to hear that our deluxe breakfast and room did not meet your expectations. We are a historic boutique hotel, and each room is unique. We also try to vary our breakfast frequently to try to accommodate different tastes. We really appreciate your comments, especially about the use of single plastics in the bathroom. We are in the process of bringing back regular mugs/cups as we noticed guests are starting to feel more comfortable after covid restrictions eased– which we had to adapt to. We are very thankful for every comment and suggestion and will always look to continue improving our guest's experience. We would appreciate it if you could reach out to one of our managers in case there is anything else that we can do. We would love to hear back from you. Best Regards, The Great George Team.

The Great George is a unique hotel. The main hotel is a stately building steeped in history , the lounge area is very comfortable and it is where breakfast (quite good) is served and you can also enjoy tea in the afternoon.
There are also a number of charming homes nearby that are also owned by the hotel and those are available to rent as well...I am not sure how the rooms are configured in them as i did not go inside any .I can say that from the exterior they looked well appointed.
We were booked into another building owned by the hotel, our room was quite large and would have been perfect for a family as it had 2 bedrooms and 2 baths along with a living room and kitchen.
I would not have chosen this particular room for us as it did not reflect the quaint charm of the city ,but we were comfortable non the less.
Be sure to take the walking tour they offer at the Great George, it is well done and gives a great overview of the neighborhood which was brought back from a derelict state to the charm that it has now. Oliver was our guide and he did a great job.

We stayed at the Great George for a wedding in Charlottetown and the service we received was possibly the best service I've ever had in a hotel. The staff went above and beyond to back sure everything was perfect for the bridal party. They even brought us drinks and croissants in the room when we were getting ready. I just can't say enough good things about the service. It made the wedding day that much better.
The location of the hotel is also excellent. We were able to walk to restaurants nearby and really enjoyed that.
The hotel has a happy hour for guests everyday in the lobby. We each got a few glasses of wine/craft beers free of charge. They also have freshly baked cookies out for guests and tea and coffee. The breakfast is simple but good. There aren't really any tables to eat breakfast in the lobby but we didn't mind since it was nice out so we were able to enjoy it outside.
One thing to note is that this hotel is a series of historic building all connected together so each room is somewhat unique. I saw a couple different ones since there was around 20 of us staying at the hotel and they were all great but did differ for the same price. The ones in our party who had rooms in the main building found that their rooms were not as impressive as the ones in some of the other houses. Ours was in the Wellington House and it was lovely. The Carroll House suite was also very nice. The Bruce House rooms were some of our favorites as well.
Overall can't say enough good things. Will be back for sure!

We enjoyed our 2 night stay in the Victorian Pavilion of The Great George in Charlottetown. This historic boutique hotel has a lovely and welcoming lobby where guests can enjoy an evening happy hour and a continental breakfast each morning. Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The Great George is in a good downtown location within easy walking distance to the city sights, waterfront, and many restaurants. The staff were attentive and friendly. We would highly recommend this hotel if you are planning to visit Charlottetown.

Our first time staying here and we were thoroughly impressed with the effort that it must have taken to convert this block into a very comfortable hotel. If you are one that needs the pampered surroundings and facilities of say a Hilton, you may not want to stay here. Location id great being within a couple of blocks of all downtown including the harbour. We stayed in the hideaway in the Carrol house. If stairs are an issue for you, this room is not for you either. They have a happy hour on weekdays and they have some absolutely scrumptious cookies out in the afternoon. Breakfast is a little limited but still decent. i found that the bed was too hard but the spouse liked it. The shower stall is very tight. Room temp control can be a bit of a struggle and if you need to use the wall mounted air con units, they might be too noisy for you to sleep. With the skylights in this room, natural light invades the room at sunrise so if you need a blackout room, this will alos be an issue for you. We'll be back.
