The Hotel on Pownal is often celebrated for its exceptional service and prime location, which offers guests easy access to nearby shops and attractions. Many guests have highlighted the clean and updated rooms, though a few have pointed out that they can be on the smaller side with occasional maintenance needs. While the inclusive breakfast and overall pricing are seen as valuable by some, others have experienced inconsistencies in rates and breakfast service. Despite these concerns, the welcoming atmosphere and cleanliness are frequently praised, with special mentions of the music and holiday decorations.

We happen to really luck out and was able to book this hotel last minute even though there were street dances and culinary events going on all through Charlottetown. The hotel looked very beautiful in the pictures and that is exactly what we got when we were there. It was one of our nicest vacations ever and in no small part it included the Hotel on Pownal. The room is perfect, comfy, clean with a fridge and other amenities. We even had a balcony to experience during great weather. The front desk and help at the hotel were friendly and hospitable. We hope to come back to this hotel again next year. PS the street dance and so many things were within a block or two.

We reserved 3 rooms for 1 night and we were very impressed with the hotel. The staff was courteous and the rooms were very clean. The rooms had a clean contemporary feel and there are many outlets to plug in your devices.
I liked that when you entered your room the tv was streaming a music channel so the room felt welcoming.
The breakfast was included in the price of the room and it was excellent and there was a wider selection of options than the typical hotels.
We checked out the day before Canada Day and they had the lobby all decorated for the holiday.
We were close to restaurants and shopping but was a little walk to the waterfront.
Overall an excellent place to stay.

Everything was perfect for us! The people at the desk were very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect for walking everywhere. They even had a card available of a wonderful walking tour around the harbor. That walk (as well as walking into town for delicious meals) was a highlight of our entire trip. They had EV charging stations, which was an added bonus. The room was large and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was nice -- not overly fancy, but a buffet served with china and real silverware, rather than paper and plastic. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is actually a motel. The room was modern, clean and well equipped. The breakfast was fine. No elevators, paper thin walls (could hear every word the neighbors said) and every room exited to outdoors. Also, I couldn't find any ice machines.... In my opinion, the owners made a great attempt to modernize what would have been a dumpy old motel at one point. The hotel was within walking distance to many Ctown attractions, and free cookies all day long at the breakfast area.

This funky hotel/motel exceeded our expectations, particularly at the price point. Very clean, simple but attractive decor, quiet, good temperature control, comfy bedding. Loved the walk along the balcony to the lobby, just felt like we were on safari. Little details like EV chargers, places to sit outside, tended landscaping, flavoured water in the lobby, brought the vibe up. Welcome drink hour was generous and enjoyable. Staff extremely friendly, without exception. If you can do without a room clean, you get a chunky $10 rebate per day on your stay! My only complaint was the spotty wifi, but that's every hotel.

Could not have asked for a better hotel experience! I was with a tour group staying here during Hurricane Fiona when we lost power for 40 hours. The hotel staff was great, giving each of us a small portable lantern to use in our rooms. The hotel owners, who live nearby and have a generator, made hot coffee in the mornings and prepared a delicious dinner of grilled hotdogs and hamburgs for the staff and guests the evening we were without power. The room was spacious and very comfortable, plus the location was perfect for walking in Charlottetown. Would definitely stay here again!!

Very clean and comfortable hotel in the heart of the city. We stayed in a two room suite on the ground floor to allow for easy access. The beds were very comfortable and the room had everything we needed. The continental breakfast was well stocked, the egg frittata was tasty for this type of breakfast. We did find our room a bit noisy on our first morning as a bus tour group was leaving early, however after that it was quite. There were nice outdoor seating spaces to relax in and enjoy the sunshine. We were able to walk the suggested routes to the harbour, sites, shops and parks. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Charlottetown.

The rooms were very clean and in great condition. Well stock and the suite is the way to go. Full fridge and all the amenities The getaway package included 4 Gahan beer and a $50 gift certificate you can use at numerous restaurants. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They took care of our every need. Even gave us nice bagged breakfasts because the covid protocols keeps the continental closed. The hotel is right in the center of things and a 5 minute walk to almost anything you would want to do. Quiet at night with off street parking. If you go to Charlottetown stay here

Once again I am assigned a room at the very end of the corridor, very end room! Why do others get 2nd floor with balcony. My tour group doesn’t assign rooms, left to each hotel. (Convinced tour groups don’t get best ones, singles even worse.) Was a long wait for room kcards - did they not expect us? Attribute it to same old staff shortages. So I make that long lonely trip down the darkened corridor and see I have a suite. Pass kitchen go directly to window to check the view and am conforted by a dilapidated 2 story building with f—- teachers graffiti spray painted several times directly opposite my window. I sleep with curtains open as I want the morning day, ight. Found the tour leader occupied with another room change but he made it all work. Room had a patio directly on the parking lot. Other than that, room very comfortable & quiet. For breakfast they ran out of coffee, ran out of food offerings, but what I had was fine. Wish I could make do with just cereal. Location very good for walking access into town and down to harbor not always blocked with cruise ships.
They need to care care of their assigned street corner flower bed. Plants were withering!

HI Mollysydney51, Thank you for your review which we appreciate all of your comments! We are sorry to hear you experienced viewing graffiti on the rental units across from your room. We have addressed this with the owner's and are working to ensure this is avoided in the future. For tour group's, we always ensure we are offering our most convenient room locations depending on what the company chooses to utilize at our property. We are also sorry to hear you experienced running out of breakfast options. We are ensuring we are staffed as best as possible to ensure our breakfast line is running at full capacity with plenty of options for our guests. We appreciate your understanding as staff shortages have been very difficult this summer. If there is anything I can do to make your experience more enjoyable regarding this, I urge you to please reach out to me. I have reached out to the City of Charlottetown on behalf of your comment about the flowers. With that section of the hotel, the city is responsible for maintaining the flower's as per our "adopt a corner" initiative for summer 2022. I am currently awaiting their response for an update. Again, we really appreciate you taking the time to write a review and we hope to see you again soon. Megan H. Hotel General Manager gm@thehotelonpownal.com

This was my first time staying at the Hotel on Pownal and chose it because it was pet friendly, a convenient location and with no pool hoped it would be quiet with less small children.
Unfortunately there was a hockey team of 8-10 year old boys!!! The noise level was brutal! Also breakfast items were mostly gone by 9:00 am with no intention of refilling even though breakfast was until 10:00 am. There was also an issue with the promo I qualified for.
All of that being said…I will book again and give them 1 more shot…why? Because the room and facilities were quite nice and the staff went above and beyond to make me happy when I did mention the issues . That means a lot! Maybe I just hit the wrong weekend. I’d definitely give them a try…
