Detailed Reviews
We stayed in the Fairholm building on for two nights during a very cold week in February 2020. We were looking for a cozy place as a base for our first trip to PEI and Fairholm was perfect. Even in winter with the regular off season tweaks being made to improve the inn, the staff was friendly and as attentive as we could wish. Our room had a gas fireplace and soaking tub, both of which were appreciated after days spent driving around and exploring the island. The location is right on the edge of the historic core of Charlottetown so everything from the museums to the waterfront is a short walk (including the Old Triangle where there are open traditional music sessions--very important for this duo). The included breakfasts were also fantastic, with a number of options to choose from. We were looking for a relaxing few days away from our hectic lives and Fairholm hit the spot.
While the building we were in is historic, with beautiful antiques and period details, it is not overly fussy and is very comfortable. We appreciated that they found the sweet spot between comfortable and impressively persevered. If you want a place where you can enjoy historic details without being made to feel that you might break something this is the spot for you.

Ben and the team at Fairholm Inn provided us excellent customer service when we were planning our stay in January for the month of April and May. Ben took the time to find the most suitable arrangements within their property that matched our needs and price points. He was quick, thorough and professional with his communication.
We were really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately with COVID we had to cancel. The Inn was gracious to support us to cancel the booking. Once things clear and we are able to make it to Charlottetown we’d be very happy to re-book with them. Their professionalism and attention to their customers needs is apparent; I’d definitely recommend them to friends and family.

This was a beautiful place to stay. It is close to shopping and restaurants. It was a pleasant stay from the moment we got there. Sam was waiting for us and showed us to our room and gave us information on parking and some good places to eat and see.
The room we had was The Amethyst in Cranford House. It had a king sized bed which was so comfortable. The room had a flat screen TV and free wifi. We stayed here when the days were really hot and the a/c was nice to come into. There was a propane fireplace that would have been awesome for an autumn getaway. The bathroom was spacious with a jet tub/shower.
Due to COVID you can ask for housekeeping if you want it daily, otherwise you make your own bed and towels are not changed daily. It prevents extra people being in your room during your stay and as I said if you require anything including daily housekeeping just ask and they are happy to accommodate that request. The room was spacious and very comfortable.
A hot breakfast was included daily and there were plenty of choices and very tasty.
We had to leave a day early and Ben the General Manager was very understanding and approved the leaving early so we got the one night back on our Visa, he did not have to do that as we had got a three day package online.
I can't say enough good about this location. The staff that we had contact with were professional and friendly. We will definitely recommend this place and we will certainly stay here again.
Thank you guys again for a fabulous and most needed vacation for us.

We stayed two nights in Charlottetown and chose this venue because they offered a dinner package as well as breakfast; something we haven't tried before. We weren't sure what time check-in was so we arrived mid-afternoon and rang the bell. Noone answered, mail was overflowing the mailbox, and the place looked deserted. A phone call brought a staff member to check us in. We had a choice of an upstairs or downstairs room and opted for downstairs. I would recommend upstairs to future visitors as you will experience less noise from people above you. The room was comfortable and nicely furnished but there were a few things that require attention: The TV didn't work (and noone responded to our phone call about it), the air conditioning unit (finally located behind a chair) was too loud to have it operating, there were water stains on the bathroom ceiling, and we were provided with only 1 small bar of soap that had to be moved back and forth between the shower and the sink for use. The dining room tables were adequately spaced for covid-19 protocols, but none of the staff wore masks during any of the meal services.
On the positive side, the heritage buildings (The Cranford Inn is the middle one of three on this city block) and the grounds are gorgeous. Both breakfasts and dinner were absolutely delicious, and we'd like to send a shout out to Mitch for his excellent, friendly service.
We would definitely come back to this venue for an evening meal.

We come to Charlottown several times a year and always stay at high end condos and apartments. Sadly I was disappointed with my stay here. The room I actually ended up cleaning...The counter had a coffee ring from the coffee pot and coffee drippings.. which immediately I knew had not been disinfected. The fridge was not wiped out. The microwave was covered in finger prints. There was 2 towels for 4 people. Though they gave us more when we asked. The bathroom in the master had drippings of something on the floor and the shower door had marks where people had thrown their wash clothes over. Soap stains still there. There were bits of toilet paper behind the toilet and the headboard had an inch of dirt. They didn't vacuum our mats as we walked around in our bare feet and kept getting things stuck to our feet. I did clean some of the items but eventually gave up. Phone in the Superior Suite would not dial the front desk. Their was a washer and dryer on site but no laundry soap or anything in the apartment to use. No hangers in the closet. We'll There was 2. The bathroom sink had hair on it and I killed 4 flies in my first 5 minutes. Ugh! I could go on but won't. The staff was nice and the grounds looked OK. The furniture for a Superior Apartment is very cheaply made. Toilet paper is sand paper. Definitely not what we are use to. But as for the staff again they seemed lovely.. Upside I guess it's close to down town and AC works well. They have a coffee pot no coffee and no cream or anything for it..

We stayed in one of the suites in the carriage house, sold to us by our agent as deluxe, might have been deluxe back in the day, but unfortunately it was rather tired and in need of some tlc, yes it was well equipped but the general feel of the suite was more standard. Breakfast was included, but we only tried it the first 3 days and each day it came out cold, looked lovely and seemed to be getting to the serving hatch hot, but service was a bit slow, so we gave up and ate out. It was pointed out that due to Covid cleaning would be on demand, rather then entering rooms when not needed, which we were fine with, unfortunately I had to make 3 requests to have bedding and towels changed, they were very apologetic, but we weren't the only ones having issues. Actually ended up leaving a day early at our own expense, won't be recommending to anyone unfortunately

Horrible! I could not even begin to list the many issues associated with my stay here. We had a luxury suite it was everything but. The amenities offered aren't even close to being up to standards. The place was not clean. Our shower had slime around the bottom of the tile. The sink had hair in it. The tiles in the bathroom were lifted. Bits of toilet paper behind the toilet. I had to clean the kitchen myself. Our floor was not vacuumed. Being a property manager myself I would be ashamed of charging people for a place thats broken down so badly. The dryer made a horrendous noise. No washing detergent or any products for the laundry facilities inside the suite. In fact the toilet paper was more like sand paper. Two tiny bits of soap to do 4 night and 2 people. 1/4 of a roll of used papertowel. During covid leaving half roles of toilet paper and papertowel is not acceptable. Half used box of kleenex. No complimentary shampoo etc. In the kitchen the coffee pod is dated and a large can Costco size of coffee for everyone to use. Real sanitary and no milk/cream or anything. No sugar in the place, salt and pepper or anything. 2 towels for 4 people and the suite promised 3 beds and had 2 so my son ended up on the floor. Not impressed. Toilet seat was loose. I could go on. Dirty shower doors. I would never stay here again.

This lovely hotel took us in when we were stuck, giving us a unit in their carriage house, which is a modern unit of six suites. It had one bedroom, a Murphy Bed, two lovely bathrooms, a full kitchen and a large living room. The beds were both very comfortable. The main bathroom had a large circular bath, a hot tub really, and a lovely large rain shower. The second bathroom had a shower. There were full dishes and all. There is a washer and dryer in the unit, and a load's worth of soap. You could happily live in this unit, it’s so nicely appointed.
We arrived early and left our luggage in the room. Included with the rate is a gourmet breakfast, with about 6 choices, including a couple for vegetarians. There were two options for Eggs Benedict, both of them excellent. Yes, I tried both over the time we were there, which was almost a week. The gardens around the buildings are beautifully landscaped, and it’s a pleasure to walk through them to breakfast. The staff were all polite and really friendly. Really, I would stay nowhere else any time I returned to Charlottetown.

This hotel does not live up to its ratings. It was probably 5 stars in the 90s, but not anymore. With all the nuisances, smells, unclean rooms, and broken stuff, it feels more like one of those unrenovated shabby motels by the highway.
At first we moved to a room called the Hillsboro. It was considerably modern and we kind of liked it on our first night, until the shower broke the next morning. The front desk offered us to shower in another house for the time being, but it was inconvenient, thus we kindly declined.
Surprisingly because we were part of a wedding group, breakfast was not included, but their policy states that breakfast is included for all guests. A note to future wedding planners.
We moved thereafter into the "Irene Rogers" room. It looked beautiful and historic (lived up to its name). However there were a handful of issues. Firstly, the washroom smelled like urine and/or a septic like smell. Secondly, although the room was "cleaned" upon moving into it, the rug was still dirty, thirdly it was dirty under the bed and behind the curtains, fourth it seemed like the room needed some painting, fifth there was no sound detonation. If someone comes into the house in the middle of the night you're woken up by the noise of them talking, sort of like in those cheap motels. We also noticed that bedsheets and towels were never changed either which is odd for a so called "5 star" hotel. On our last night, the toilet clogged from taking a dump. Overall a disappointing hotel for the price paid. At most a 2 star hotel.

We have been following the unexpected and severe damage that Fiona caused to PEI, and thought that one small thing we could do is to post a review of the Fairholm Inns, where we stayed in July, and encourage anyone considering a visit to PEI to stay there.
The Inns are truly a family affair. We were taken care of by Brooke (the owner) along with his grown children and their friends. We had the kind of experience you will never get at a chain hotel. We received personalized attention every step of the way, from check-in right until departure. The various family members helped us plan our daily hikes, discover local restaurants, and even arranged for rides to our destinations. We got to know them , and they gave us insights about life on the island. We felt like were practically part of the family by the time we left.
Our room was the size of a small apartment, with a sitting room and a small balcony. It was perfect for our 8-day stay, and while there was not regular room cleaning, any requests we had for towels or anything else was taken care of quickly and with good humor.
If you have the opportunity to stay at the Fairholm Inns, please do. Places like this need all the support we can give them as they weather (literally) hurricanes and pandemics.
