It is a very basic hotel, and one of the cheapest hotels in montreal. Its close to the centre.
The breakfast included was a muffin or a croissant, which was ok, if your not a big eater like me.
I would not say it was the cleanest, there were a couple of stains in the room I didn't want to think about too deeply, but it sheets were clean.

It was quiet apart from the noisey plumbing when someone showered.

There was wifi in the rooms, and that was more than I expected.

Overall not bad, I have stayed in much worse.

I read a lot of bad reviews before the stay, so I was ready for the worst, but, fortunately, the worst did not happen. It took me 3 minutes to reach the hotel from the metro, so the location was convenient. The owner of the hotel met me with my mother instantly and the check-in passed quickly. The room itself was quite clean and we did not notice any bugs during our stay. The sheets and towels glowed white. The air-conditioner worked perfectly and we did not feel any heat in the room, while the weather was quite hot outside. The breakfast was basic (juice and croissant), but, however, still a very good deal for the value. Of course, the furniture at the hotel was not new, and there was a smell of a little mustiness in the air, but, however, I believe that the owner of this hotel tried to do his best for the value. It should be said that Montreal hotels did not offer private bathrooms and breakfast at such a price, so this place costs its money. I would say that this hotel is good place to stay for a couple of nights.

Really didn't do my research on this place. Found it cheap online so I booked it. What I paid was still way to much for this place
Very run down. Cigarette burns in the bed covers also burns on the sink top where people have left their cigarettes burning. Things dirty, rusty or broken. Didn't use the shower. Ew.
Just used it to get some quick zzzzs. I was up and out early. Didn't want to stay longer than I had too.

I have visited Montreal for the last 5 years. I go alone and have checked out all the hotels in the Montreal area.

I can tell you this, if you are looking for a cheap, close to downtown hotel and there are going to be one or two people in your party, this is the place to go.

It has a decent room, with a shower and courteous personel.

Please do not confuse hotels that charge under 100 per night with the "Hilton or higher end hotels that do your laundry, park your car, have excellent cleaning staff, etc." This is not that hotel. However, it is cheap and located in the downtown area.

What are people expecting for paying under 100 dollars a night at a hotel? If you want to be pampered on your trip, then go to the Hilton or the Marriot and spend $300 plus a night. Otherwise come to this place and spend less money and do more stuff yourself, i.e. go get breakfast at a nice restaurant and just know that you didn't have to spend an additional $40 to have a breakfast included in your hotel bill! It is cheaper at a nice restaurant anyway!

For those people who are expecting the hotel to look like a palace, forget it, I don't even know of too many fancy hotels that some people don't complain about anyway. Someone who likes to complain will always find something wrong with something.

Let me ask you something, there was a story last year of Housekeepers at a Hilton who were stealing the customers personal belongings while they were at the pool, that was included with extremely large hotel bill. Why doesn't anyone ever mention that when they are complaining of not having this or that when they go out?

Folks, when you choose to stay at a hotel, you have two options, one is to pay big money at a higher end hotel, or the other is to pay a lower rate at a decent hotel and spend your hard earned money shopping or dining at nice restaurants, etc. The choice is yours!

I have to agree with the other comments regaring cleanliness – STAY AWAY. The only good quality this “hotel” had for me was the location. But after now being there, that wasn’t good enough either. It was not worth it at all.

I travel a lot and stay in many cheap hotels and do not expect a lot. I do not mind sparse accomodations, but I need minimum comfort to sleep and clean up and it needs to be clean. This was one of the worst places I have seen, because of the filth and dis-repair.

My observations:
• All of the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a commercial building.
• Access to these rooms is by very steep narrow stairs that turn around narrow corners.
• The carpet on these stairs, and the room I had, was horribly stained. It doesn’t appear to have been cleaned in years.
• You need to ask for a key for the door on the street otherwise they need to buzz you in.
• Small parking lot for only 4 cars in the back. If a space is not available, you are out of luck. You will have to go a long distance to find an open space to park a car overnight. The area is very congested with traffic.
• The room I had was on the 3rd floor, was very small and did not have a window. Only a skylight.
• The “Décor” if that word can be used here was crappy. Old furniture, antique TV and old plumbing fixtures. Poorly painted and bad tile work in the shower/toilet room. There were exposed pipes and water lines running in the corners and up through the skylight.
• The “bathroom” only had a shower. The room it was in was very small. The toilet was in a very narrow alcove with only an inch of room on each side of the toilet seat. When you sit down, you can feel the walls on each side on your thighs. The toilet ran, so I kept the door shut at all times.
• The bed was hard and had lumpy pillows. The sheets had cigarette holes.
• Charming mouse traps in the halls.

They ask for money up front before you see the room. It was late and I was too tired to question it, but I should have.

This hotel was the most disgusting place I have EVER stayed. In their office, there is a sign/certificate on the window that states they are a 5 star hotel.....definitely not accurate. The place was not the cleanest and there were bugs in the bed. Ween my friends and I checked in, we went into the room to chill for a few minutes. I sat towards the head of the bed, moved the pillow up, and all of a sudden there was a bug crawling on my shoulder. I removed the bug, moved the sheets back, and there was a bug crawling under the comforter. Never would stay here again, or would I ever recommend this place to anyone. I know it's very cost efficient, but pay the extra money to stay somewhere else.

My room was dirty. The toilet was dirty like it had just been used. The towel had a pubic hair, there were holes in the carpet and the chair.

The worst thing was a black tick like bug I killed. After that I knew I had to get out of there.

This place is a health risk. Please don't even think of bringing your kids there.

This hotel was a big disappointment for us. We've read the reviews prior to booking the room, but somehow hoped that the worst ones are not exactly true, but they unfortunately were. After ringing the bell downstairs we got to the building which had a ready old nasty smell that was not only in the hallways, but also in the room. After climbing the stairs (there's no elevator), we got to a little "window in the wall" where a strange behaving man assisted us. There is no reception and the advertised parking is behind the hotel in a very quiet, dark and tight street, which doesn't feel save enough for leaving your car over-night. The room was equipped with very old furniture and honestly, we did not feel comfortable sleeping there. Another thing which we haven't read in other reviews is that it is located right on the main gay street in the Gay Village - which we didn't mind as much as listening to our male neighbors going crazy in bed in the middle of the night. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank God we only stayed one night.

The whole hotel smells funny. The staff is unpolite. There is no real cleaning, I got myself FUNGUS in my arm by using one of their blanket, this tells a lot about the cleaning!

Avoid this place at all costs!

If there is something lower than terrible in the rating-that's Hotel Ste Catherine

First off, you have to double check the address when you walk in because it is like walking in to a low class apartment building. The office is on the second floor and..actually there is no first floor. So if you are carrying big luggage carry them sideways because the stairs are quite narrow and steep. Or if you want to carry them up the back stairs....good luck! It's the traditional Montréal spiral stairs-with a kick. The stairs are so shaky I don't even think they are bolted down. And when you get to your floor the balcony is on a slant. Now for the parking lot. Good thing we had a couple of hours to kill between check in and dinner, because the good man at the desk made me move my car three times, in reasons of - you can't park there - those people are leaving early. The parking lot can hold 4-6 cars, minus one because it's the staff parking !?! The next morning, I got waken up a 8 O'clock by a knock on the door. The good man at the desk wanted me to move my car because someone wanted to leave!
In conclusion, If you are looking for a place to rest and sleep in, pay the extra and go down the street to Hotel Gouverneur, it's more expensive but it's got an underground parking!

"The room was just right for one person and would probably be cramped for two. The bathroom was tiny so some people may be uncomfortable. There were no windows but a skylight. There was a deadbolt lock which did not work. I feel that if someone wanted to walk into the room they probably could without a key."
