Stayed here for 2 nights recently and the staff made all the difference. COULD NOT have been more welcoming and helpful, from storing my bags, to making photocopies or printing pages when needed, to giving directions & advice, etc, etc.. Very polished, professional, and kind-hearted people working here. Excellent job! My only issues during the entire stay were that the walls were a little thin, so bring your earplugs. And there were groups of people constantly smoking in front of the doors in the courtyard leading to the dorm rooms, directly in front of the “non-smoking area” signs. Tough for the staff to monitor this, and I understand that they are trying to make everyone happy and relaxed, but sometimes you have to warn or threaten to evict those selfish people who don’t follow the rules or care anything about others health, especially when a lot of people, like myself, are very allergic to cigarette smoke. My sincere thanks again however to the amazing team at the front desk area, you are exceptional!…
We stayed at the M hotel in September, over Labour Day. The room was large and clean, the beds were comfortable, soundproofing was decent, and we appreciated having kitchen facilities and a refrigerator. Most of the people who stay at this facility are young; I was with my teenaged daughter to see McGill and we were probably the only people not in their 20s. The one drawback to this place was the 2 block walk to the metro, which passes by an area that has been taken over by transients who are mostly drunk or high. We saw drugs being sold on that block, and it was a bit uncomfortable walking by the people who seem to spend their day sitting on the sidewalk in a stupor. Once you walk by that block ( Rue Berri between St Hubert and St Andre) everything is fine, and the other blocks in the neighbourhood also felt safe, so I think it partly depends on your tolerance for urban grit. The blocks north of the hotel on Rue Berri have night clubs with provocative signs in the windows— I’m not entirely sure I would stay here with young kids. I think once those few blocks of Rue Berri get developed (it looked as though they had been bought by a developer but not yet redone) this area will probably be just fine, but I think I might try to stay a few blocks closer to the centre of town next time…
The reception staff are exceptional! I felt welcomed, they were efficient, and were very helpful. They have several levels of accommodation. We had a two bed kitchenette unit which was impeccable. There was enough to prepare light meals with a two burner cook top, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher. The only thing that I would have preferred would be a table rather than a desk. The beds were heavenly. The bathroom was great other than another towel rack would have been handy. The roof top hot tubes is a great feature. It is amazing value for the money.
We stayed here about 1 month ago and absolutely loved the amenities this place had to offer. Very close to everything including restaurants, grocery/liquor stores, Shoppers, etc. The hot tubs on the roof were great and we used them almost every night, even in the snow. We had a private room with our own bathroom which also had a kitchenette. It was very modern and clean. The cafe is also very good. The bar had lots of events going on in the evenings including comedy shows. Wouldn't hesitate to return here on my next trip to Montreal!
This hotel is great aesthetically, on the surface, but when you get down to the basics, I would not stay again. My bed wasn't made (I had to put the fitted sheet on myself, and then regular sheet). The pillow was way too thick and hard and lifted my head too high, so I slept without a pillow. Reception didn't have any alternatives. Housekeeping didn't check to see that I already had a towel and kept giving me new towels, so I had 4 by the end of my short stay. And the towel left so much lint on me after my shower that when I dried off, it looked like it snowed on my body. It was pretty gross. I would have had to re-wash my hair if I had dried it with the towel! Shower takes 10 minutes to get hot. Ear plugs a MUST if near Reception since the room is right above the bar and you can hear and feel the music and loud voices until late hours.…
For some trips we like to shoot for luxury and on others our goal is to find a great value. That’s what we looked for in selecting M Montréal. It’s a hostel so the atmosphere was no surprise. Located within easy walking distance from the bus station, this is a clean well run hostel. As part of check-in the staff will take you on a tour of the facility which includes a bar downstairs, laundry room, kitchen, jacuzzi on the roof, a small coffee bar, etc. We had booked one of the private rooms so we didn’t take the full tour. Our room was large and included a very comfortable king size bed, very nice kitchen area, desk, TV, sofa and chair. The bathroom was really nice With a big tub and good hot shower. There is free WiFi which turned out to be very important as we could not seem to get cellular service on a consistent basis. The location is a party area with an underground disco about a block away. Expect to find vomit on the sidewalks. I recommend this hotel for travelers looking for clean cheap accommodations. I would not recommend for children.…
I followed a couple of websites and booked a king room here for/me and my wife. Whilst in/general it had the feel/of a hostel our king room was excellent, it had a great bed, a basic kitchen and a bath, very important to my wife. The place is positioned at he edges of the village and red light district but didn’t feel scary at all. Plenty of shops nearby for drinks and food and excellent Metro links with very friendly and helpful staff.
This is one of best hostels I've stayed at. A great location, walking distance to public transport and central Montreal, as well as a huge range of shops, bars and restaurants nearby. The rooms were comfortable and privacy curtains were a great addition too. Plenty of storage space and individual lights and electrical outlets too are just great. The common spaces, staff and roof terrace are all great too. I only had to cut my stay short as my plans changed last minute but I'd definitely be back if I came back to Montreal and would highly recommend this as a place to stay!
Beautiful place to stay, the rooms are amazing! We had a wonderful weekend and celebrated my Bachelor party. Only negative to the rooms is that there are now hair dryers, you have to request from reception. Hotel Staff are absolutely wonderful. I usually stay at the Governor, not anymore. I will be booking M Montreal next time.
Great atmosphere, has different activities everyday with an activity board. Hot tubs were as awesome as you'd expect, great after a long day sightseeing. Not too far from public transport, close to the water front and to some bars and restaurants. Very close to Old Montreal. Hostel rooms were very modern and clean (aside from one other guest with bad smelling feet and shoes), we stayed in the 8 bed dorms which have their own bathroom. Signs on the windows saying not to open which didn't help with the smell issue. The cabin beds were good and the curtain gives privacy except if you have the top bunk. This is an open top and so the other top bunks can see into the bunk and this meant also if someone turned on the lights for the room it would wake you up unless you had an eye mask. Each bunk does have its own light but not all would use them and even with that on the top bunk you would still see the light from any other top bunk. Bottom bunks didn't have this issue, if you can go for the bottom bunk. There is locker storage underneath the bunks which were really useful and big enough for both of our rucksacks in one. Bring a padlock. Breakfast was better than the standard you'd normally expect at a hostel (cereal, toast, bagels, eggs, fruit, juice and coffee). Lovely cafe area with hammock seating.…
