Need for a last minute extra night's stay in Montreal led to a first stay at this property. I knew the location was ideal (on Sherbrooke Street, in the museum/university area) but had previously skimmed over the property because a) it has no elevator, and lots of steps, and b) the price hadn't seemed competitive.
Covid seems to have changed all that.
Taking a deep breath, I checked into the sister property across the road, as per instructions. I already knew there would be no buffet breakfast or food or any kind, and it was explained to me that there would be NO STAFF in the building overnight...unsettling, to say the least..
It was late and I was tired. The concierge at the sister hotel sweetly gave me a free upgrade (which I now know is a king suite!) I was blown away by the beauty of my suite: fireplace, chandelier, tall ceiling, giant king bed. It was lovely !
I slept undisturbed, and was relieved to meet a concierge at the reception when I was up and about the next day. She was very helpful re airport transport and nearby breakfast places.
If nothing about any of the above is unsettling, then I say check this location out. The rate is reasonable, and the location ideal. I will definitely go back !

Firstly there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this hotel. The staff are friendly when they are around but you still have to check in across the road at Le Meridian, and there are no lifts, meaning that you might have to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs. Our room does not have air conditioning and so to stay cool you have to camp out in the breakfast room downstairs, which does have air conditioning. You also want to ask for a room not facing the main road because it is on a busy junction and there is considerable road noise, especially from early morning. The bathroom is also very small and a tall person or a larger person would find going to the toilet very cramped/uncomfotable. The fixtures and fittings also need a bit of attention. On the positive side, we have a very comfortable bed, the shower is good, there is a limited but free continental breakfast and the location is pretty good (5 minutes from closest metro station, close to Mont Royal, lots of good restaurants in the area). The area also feels very safe, even late at night. We booked with Trailfinders who use this hotel and we paid a decent rate. In fairness we have stayed at a very busy period with many hotels sold out due to Canadian Grand Prix weekend, a Lions International Convention and the world triathlon championship all during this week. However, the room we were given is definitely not the quality we were sold hence the 3/5 rating.

Everything here is stairs. My visit began by lugging my suitcase up the front steps only to discover once I got to the door that there was no one on duty and I had to go across the street to another hotel owned by the same group in order to check in. Thank goodness there were some guests who had just checked in who offered to stay with my bags while I crossed the busy thoroughfare to check in.
Clearly, the owners spent a lot of money decorating the place, but it looks like they haven’t spent much on upkeep. Paint and wallpaper are peeling in the stairwells (of which there are many).
My room had 3 lamps but only one was plugged in. As I didn’t want to move the heavy furniture to reach the outlet, I made do with the overhead chandelier and the one lamp.
It’s a good thing I didn’t want to unpack because the very lovely chairs were blocking the dresser drawers.
The toilet seemed to only flush completely every other time.
There were lovely toiletries, which is nice, and the bed was fine.
Breakfast was uninspired and by 8:30 am they were out of milk and bowls.
I got the impression that the staff there aren’t particularly happy.

Came into Montreal for a romantic getaway weekend. Had stayed at the Chateau Versailles years ago and loved it. Got good rate on Priceline but still feel that was terrible value.

Room was downstairs (101) and I doubt it was meant to be be a guest room. Large but limited and discarded furnishings. Step to to bathroom which would make it inacessible to anyone with disabilities as well as dangerous in the middle of the night. COVID protocols were not made clear so we were not aware that there would not be breakfast provided or that our room would not be made up unless we made a special request. Coffee machine broken. Couch filthy. Small repairs and details around the room were clearly neglected. Halls and carpets dirty, Generally the feeling was of neglect. Had great expectations based on past experience but hopes were dashed. Limited valet parking. Although we arrived promptly at 3h00, parking was not available. Had to park at a commercial lot about a 10 minute walk away. No longer deserves it's rating. Positive side is excellent location

The hotel with no elevators!! The hotel is located at the heart of the city, very much walkable to the mount royal and the shopping streets. The cleanliness is good but not top notch. I have seen better cleaner places. The receptionist is very welcoming. The parking is a mess, as they dont have enough spaces. Due to covid protocols they dont have room service on voluntary, instead everything is on request. There is not even a water bottle !!! Overall its an ok place and not the best one. With lesser facilities, the price is way too high for this one.

Should have listened to negative reviews. First night here and I am up at 430am! Two more nights to go because I made the mistake of prepaying a hotel without seeing it first. Between a dreadful bed which sloped, creaked and sank all night , and being awakened by guests walking and talking overhead at 1am and again at 4, I got no sleep at all. Despite my booking requests for a quiet room on upper floor, check in staff were polite but dismissive of my request for a room I specified claiming a sold out weekend. No offer to have my room changed for the upcoming two nights. Not sure if I will be able to tolerate this without sleep. Back in Montreal after 10 years and what a disappointment! Very tired and disgusted by the hotel so far. Avoid if you want a comfortable bed and some quiet during day and night.

Thank you Marig9ld for taking the time to tell us about your experiences during your stay. I am sincerely sorry that we did not meet your expectations and will be following up with the heads of the departments involved to ensure this does not repeat itself in the future. As it is a small property, on sold out long weekends it can be rather difficult to meet all requests given, especially in certain room categories. None the less I am surprised that our staff, did not offer to take a look at possibly moving you later during your stay and promise to follow up with our front office associates. Please feel free to reach out to me prior to booking your next trip to Montreal. We promise a very competitive rate and complimentary upgrade (subject to availability). Thank you, DEREK LEE Directeur Général / General Manager dlee@versailleshotels.com

We booked this hotel via Trailfinders in the UK and were totally taken in by the photos online expecting a chic boutique style elegant hotel. It couldn't have been farther from the truth. Some might call it shabby chic but I would call it just shabby!
Having looked at the photos of the interior ie breakfast lounge, gym and queen bedroom (similar to the one we stayed in) on their website I could be forgiven that we were in a different hotel or the photos were completely out of date. It may be that the suites were in good condition having been renovated but I didn't see these.
Overall the room and adjacent corridors were very tired with stains on the carpet. Wires hanging from ceilings and holes in walls. The bathroom door was only about 2 feet in width and I would comment that larger people would struggle to even manoeuvre their way in and out and that's without attempting to sit on the toilet!
Bedroom had a musty smell to it. Big stain on carpet on entering and paint peeling from bathroom walls. Bathroom fittings were tarnished and all needed replacing. The A/C unit was old and was either on or off as control didn't work.
Breakfast was very uninspiring with a small dining area to sit. Paper cups provided for breakfast.
There are no lifts whatsoever in the hotel or from outside. We struggled with our cases up the front of the building whilst one of the staff just watched me! He was then asked by the receptionist to carry one of the cases to our room. It's a complete rabbit warren of corridors and you can clearly see that it was originally separate houses that have now been combined. There's no flow and we were constantly confused as to where we were in the corridors.
The sauna was very small, 4 people would have made a crowd and you had to go down and turn it on about an hour before you wanted to use it, consequently it didn't really work.
On a plus note the bathroom towels were clean and fresh and beds were actually quite comfortable and we did sleep relatively well. Our queen room was located on a side street and was fairly quiet with no real traffic noise. Location not bad with about a 35 min walk to downtown Montreal.
We were booked in for 2 nights but decided to leave after 1 and move to something more modern for our last night in Canada. Unfortunately we couldn't get a refund but I have informed our travel agent and they are offering us some vouchers for compensation.
If money was spent and the entire hotel was renovated as shown on the photos of the suites it could be a fabulous elegant boutique hotel but not in its present state.

Please look at the exterior pictures. There are 15 steps to reach the entrance door, which was locked when we arrived, although the note stipulated the reception was manned from 11am to 7pm. Otherwise, we had to check in at the Meridien across the street. This is unacceptable when you carry a heavy suitcase. So we had to go down with our suitcases, cross the road check in and start again. Further to that, there were 2 more sets of steps to climb to reach our room. This is not what to expect from 4 stars, boutique hotel...ummmm. Like everywhere in Canada, there is a shortage of staff. Fine, but don't take COVID-19 as the excuse any more. Some companies cut corners but don't drop the prices.
The room was fine, but tired. The bed was comfortable but noisy. We were lucky to be at the back which was very quiet.
Breakfast was served in a totally inadequate room, far too small for the number of guests. The tables were tiny. Lots of guests had to seat on the sofas and use the coffee tables.
There was only one attendant who was overwhelmed. The young lady was really lovely but poor staff there was so much to do. Every morning we had to ask for something, being juice, glasses, croissants etc sometimes several items. She was rushed off her feet but was extremely nice.
I would not say the same about the young male who did not seem to care. We only had 1 1/2 bagel left when we went for breakfast, asked for croissants, but they did not materialize. We are not picky, but the choice is very small. What was the most annoying was he was wearing his headphones as if he wanted to switch off from us. That is a no no.
It is a shame as this could be a very nice place to stay. I want to stress that apart from one member of staff the rest based at the Meridien hotel were wonderful. The set up is a disgrace though.

Thank you GBfroggy for taking the time to write your review. We unfortunately were suffering heavily in the staffing department and of course Covid-19 is still around which can reduce our numbers at times unexpectedly. None the less, these are sincerely our challenges and should not reflect on the promises and expectations as they did in this particular situation. I am sincerely sorry we were unable to provide you with the services and experience you deserved. I would like you to know that we were not intentionally cutting corners as you mentioned but simply doing the best that we could under the circumstances. Since your stay with us we have finally been able to find, hire and train new staff in order to better accommodate all our present and future guests. I do hope that you will give us another chance to change your perspective, please feel free to reach out to me directly prior to booking and I promise to take great care of your next journey . We stayed here on two occasions in August 2023, 3 nights all in all. The hotel has a great location very close to a metro stop and when we took the 747 airport bus in more or less the middle of the night the walk to the bus stop also didn’t take us more than about 15 minutes.
If you leave or arrive during the night you check in or out next door at Sens Høtel – very convenient!
The area was also very much to our liking with lots of great food options from everywhere in the world. We tried Chinese soup dumplings and Indian street food eg.
Staff was very nice and helpful – gave helpful tips and advice and stored our luggage when we were too early for check in/checked out, but were not leaving until the evening.
Our rooms were not large, but we had enough space, and they were very comfortable. We especially liked the bathrooms.
Breakfast did not have the largest selection, but the food was good and we left full and satisfied.
One thing to keep in mind is that you have to walk a lot of stairs, so be aware if you have mobility issues.
All in all a very nice hotel in a great location that we for sure can recommend.

Was put into four different rooms first two had the wrong size beds then the third was so hot it was unbearable was asked to open the window which only opened partially somehow allowing all the noise in but now air. Tried to take a shower it felt like the tub may fall threw the floor and you couldn’t change the water temperature. Only to call for maintenance and the gentleman that showed up while nice had no idea what he was doing. Only to be moved again to another room with again no air, so we had to ask for a fan so that we could at least sleep

We had a wall-mounted hair-dryer, and it sort-of worked. The plastic pieces of the body were coming apart and there was a hole on the back of it--it was a little dangerous. We asked for a different one from the front desk, but they had all been checked out already.
