We needed an inexpensive place to stay during a week's visit to Montreal in December. La Residence du Voyageur filled the bill admirably. Though extremely modest, it was reasonably comfortable and quite clean, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us, even supplying us with a small refrigerator at no extra cost. Parking was always easy: except...

I have stayed in bad hotels and incredibly nice hotels. Disregard the hyperbolic reviews here which claim that La Residence Du Voyageur is "gross" or "unsafe." I cannot imagine what sort of sheltered white suburbanites paid 40-50 dollars USD per night for a hotel in the middle of the city and expected the Ritz-Carlton. The carpet and bathrooms were clean,...

My room (#44) must have been an exception to the 1-dot critiques, The carpet was NOT dirty, but as clean as in most chain motels. The hot water in the shower DID require a little patience, but I did get good, warm water on some cool autumn days. The sink was all within a relatively spacious bathroom, and -- at...

If you grew up in a cave, this might be a great deal, otherwise not so much. I would not care that everything is dated, but it does not have to be dirty, with cigarette burns on furnishings. Fortunately the bedding was clean. No bed bugs, but lots of dirt between the mattress and box spring. No hot water unless...

Be aware and careful when booking through Expedia that your booking is final. I will not use Expedia again. I was checking in the internet for Hotel near to the bus station going back to Toronto for the same day arrival. I found the Expedia, and called to confirm, the lady answered me and said the price in the internet...

I am not usually one to bother making a complaint I am pretty easy to please - HOWEVER - I stayed at this hole during Osheaga 2013 weekend and I was pretty appalled. The building literally shakes, the balcony on the front of the place is tied to a tree, a shower curtain was used in place of window dressings,...

On the plus side - cheap, clean, convenient, short walk from everything interesting. On the downside - not very modern, and street parking (when they had advertised free parking) isn't as convenient. (Though if you find the parking, you can stay there after you check out, which is convenient.)

Staying in Olympic Park & Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa)

Neighbourhood Profile
Olympic Park & Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa)
Named for the Olympic Stadium complexes built for the 1976 games, the Olympic Park and the surrounding neighbourhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa) make up an invigorated area dedicated to "Space for Life." Around the Olympic Village's arenas and stadiums, Rue Sherbrooke welcomes exploration of its sculpture gardens decorated in the works of Jean-Paul Riopelle and its museum culture headed by the historical Château Dufresne. Maisonneuve Park offers interactive experiences at its bio-dome, insectarium, planetarium, and botanical gardens. For a change of scene, the gentrified space along Rue Ontario Est is packed with the city's newest, edgiest cafes, where an imaginative, youthful crowd sips foamy cappuccinos. A visit here is incomplete without stepping into the vast halls of the Maisonneuve Market, with flower stalls, wine depots, and local produce.
