The Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain earns high marks for its central location, making it a breeze for guests to explore Montreal's attractions. The hotel's modern and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the high-quality and well-maintained rooms, is consistently lauded by travelers. Although the hotel's service generally receives accolades for the staff's friendliness and professionalism, a few guests have encountered service hiccups.
While the amenities, including the luxurious M Club and diverse breakfast options, are widely appreciated, some guests point out issues with room temperature and soundproofing. Opinions on value vary, with the exceptional views often mentioned as a highlight.

I stayed at this property from Aug 1 to 4 for a family getaway & I was very impressed. I was assigned room 2705 & 2710 we both had a great view of downtown Montreal. The location cannot be beat as St Catherine's street was only minutes away & literally a 3 minute walk to the Bell Centre. This hotel was so central to everything as shopping & restaurants were a short walk away. The room was a decent size for a downtown property, contained two firm double beds, but what I was really surprised with was the amazing bathroom. The standup shower had 3 shower settings: rainfall, body spray or if you prefer water gently cascading down on you they had a setting for that too. The water pressure was amazing as well, pretty strong & no complaints. The room also had a 55 inch Samsung flat screen TV. In the hallway adjacent to the bathroom there was ample storage & space for clothes, a Nespresso unit, a safe for valuables & a bar fridge. This is something that cannot be understaded as I'm happy the Marriott provided all these amenities in anticipation of their guest's basic needs. Housekeeping services was on a request basis due to COVID as we had to provide 24 hour notice if we wanted the room cleaned but it was not an issue. The staff was generally professional & friendly from check in & they gladly provided us when anything we required, such as replacing the feather pillows with foam or extra towels. Last thing I want to mention was the breakfast at the restaurant lobby. The French toast was a must try, a pricey indulgence. If you do partake in breakfast, there are considerably cheaper food options just a few blocks from the hotel. Overall, really satisfying stay & as a Silver Elite Marriott member I would definitely stay there again.

A pandemic renovation resulted in true modern luxury in the heart of Montreal. To compliment this all the staff were incredibly customer service oriented. The rooms are bright an airy with all the amenities you could want (including toilets with all the automated bells and whistles).

Direct access to the Bell Centre via underground makes this a great hotel stay for out of town team fans. On the expensive side, but ultra convenient, clean, and nice rooms. Parking is extra. Also, NHL Teams no longer stay here. So, can’t catch anyone in the lobby. Boo hoo

Stayed for a couple of days between Xmas and NY, and had to cut the trip short due to weather concerns. The gym and the restaurant were both closed, and room service wasn’t available so we had resort to Doordash whenever we didn’t feel like leaving the hotel to eat.
The room was clean and looked new, and the frond desk staff really went out of her way to find a spa nearby who can accept a last minute booking. They have parking in the building, which was very convenient.
The view from our room is one of the best views we’ve ever had in a city hotel. The view alone is enough reason for us to stay at this hotel again.
The bathroom is tiny. When you’re standing in the middle of the bathroom, it only takes half step to get to the sink, the shower, or the toilet. The walk-in shower takes up about a third of the bathroom space and is equipped with 4-way shower tower system, which was a really nice bonus.

Good things first - the hotel is nicely renovated, the rooms are functional and generous, the gym is very good and the location is very convenient. What was not so great is the feeling that you’re being ripped off at every turn and the staff couldn’t care less about you or your stay. Some relatively minor but irritating experiences totally coloured my impression of the Marriott group to the extent that I would actively avoid staying at one in the future.
1. We arrived at 9.50pm for check in (plane delayed) and were told the kitchen would be open until 10:30. The wait staff said the kitchen was closed when we asked for some food, when pushed on when they took last orders they admitted that they had taken an order a minute previously but couldn’t take our order. There was no room service, they wouldn’t even give us olives or crackers. Had to go to bed hungry.
2. My bags had been lost in the airport and I asked reception if they had toothbrush sets I could use. They said they would send to my room. Never did.
3. I asked reception what time the clothing stores opened in Montreal (to buy clothes as I didn’t have any bags) I was told 9am but everything opened at 10 as I found out the next morning. If they didn’t know, they could have said rather than making it up and wasting my time.
4. The restaurant was ferociously expensive with $30 for breakfast and then they asked if I wanted a cappucino and did not highlight that it was $6 extra and not included In the price.
5. A lot of hanging around trying to get staff attention while they chatted and did other jobs while ignoring me.
6. Charging to hold luggage and insisting that we pay in cash.
7. Generally being really unhelpful about everything and wheedling money out of us at every turn.
8. No reasonably priced food options. Food quality not matching prices.
9. Not replenishing the drinking water in the rooms so had to pay for vending machine water.
Urgh. It just left me feeling used and broke!

My stay at this hotel was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our six day visit.
The location is within walking distance to a number of restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions we well as being connected directly to the Metro.
The staff made us feel welcome from when we arrived until we left. The front desk, the room attendants, and the lounge staff were courteous and professional. The concierge Mongia Trabelsi made us feel like VIPs.
Unlike many other hotels, this Marriott doe not use Covid as an excuse to limit services. We were provided daily room servicing and the concierge lounge was open each day with an expansive continental breakfast as well as canapes in the evening.
The room was spacious and comfortable for two people with a wonderful view of the river and the city. The recent renovations were thoughtful with very comfortable beds, adequate drawer space, bathroom hooks, and an oversized shower. Good soundproofing ensured we never heard the neighbors.
A stay at this hotel is highly recommended.

The rooms were nicely renovated (recently?) though the bathroom is a bit small and has a sliding door with frosted glass (that doesn’t lock but not a real issue).
The room has a narrow “dressing hall(?)” to put your clothes but it only has two small drawers and an open closet which had maybe 8 hangars. The main room only has one small drawer. So for two people packed for several days, the drawer space may be limiting.
The housekeeping service was very spotty likely not the fault of the cleaners but the hotel management for not planning sufficiently. It was the Grand Prix week and weekend so I understand that things may not be perfect. But each day there were (relatively minor but something each day) issues, like not replacing the towels they took, replenishing the Nespresso coffee pods, replacing the paper coffee cups. The towel issue happened for the first three nights.
The final evening after a long day at the Grand Prix we really were exhausted and looking forward to resting before our dinner reservations. It was 5:30pm and the cleaner has just stripped our beds and said it would take 25-30 minutes to finish our room and another for our son’s room next door. We mentioned the towel issue and she said they’ve had a problem with towels (meaning not enough clean ones).
Anyway, we went to the lobby which was packed and noisy. I decided to try asking the front desk to see if they could maybe comp us a drink in the lounge/restaurant off the lobby given the major inconvenience. I was passed along to the supervisor who basically said there was nothing she could do because they were swamped with the Grand Prix and they are still providing us with housekeeping service - no matter that it was now 5:45pm. All she offered to do was call the housekeeping supervisor to tell them to finish our room later. I told her it was a bit late for that as the beds were just stripped. She said they could do the bathroom later and we could rest as we’d hoped. This is hardly the service and attitude that I expected.
I’ve been to other hotel brands owned by Marriott (Westin) where they check in was a little late (because they were busy!) and they comped us drinks at the restaurant. This was far less an inconvenience but the supervisor handled very graciously and so we will be happy to return to that hotel.
Here at the Marriott Château Champlain…not so much. If they had done that one thing, I may have been willing to overlook all the housekeeping service issues.

Responded Jul 6, 2022
Dear Angela L I just want to thank you very sincerely for the quality of your comments. The Montreal Grand Prix is indeed a very busy season of the year even, still this, does not justify the failures you had to face during your stay with us. Please know that each element will be analysed and shared with the Department Manager concerned so that, the teams are continuously prepared to maintain a quality of service that must be flawless. Thank you again for your time, Daisy L

PROS:
A good hotel in a convenient location.
Recently fully renovated.
We had a very nice room with a wonderful view.
Good value for money!
Pleasant receptionist and doorman/valet.
CONS:
I found the fancy shower to be annoying and possibly even dangerous to some. There’s no controlling the force of the water. I imagine this is what it feels like to be hit by a fire hose!
The bathroom is small with only one hook on the wall and there’s a very annoying, fancy Japanese-style electronic toilet, which has a mind of its own, taking up valuable space.
Provision of the electric kettle is thoughtful and much appreciated; however, there’s nowhere to plug in, in the dedicated coffee area! And no coffee cups or mugs just two small paper cups (maybe that’s a Covid thing, yet they do provide glasses)!
There was no room service and the mini-bar was empty – again maybe it’s a Covid thing.
Unfortunately, the room smelt heavily of cigarette smoke, despite being a non-smoking hotel.
Reception and concierge desks refuse to change larger bank notes for $5s and $10s for tipping, which is particularly unhelpful!
In theory the hotel should be easily accessed by vehicle from four different points: Rue Peel, Rue de la Gauchetière, Rue de la Cathédrale southbound and Rue de la Cathédrale northbound. However, the city town planners have seen fit to block access from all angles except for the longest and least convenient: Rue Peel travelling north only!

On the road to Bonvoy Elite status we’ve stayed at numerous Marriotts and Marriott brands. We have enjoyed our stays at many but none so enthusiastically as Chateau Champlain.
On approach, it is easy to spot the tower’s iconic architecture (affectionately known locally as The Cheese Grater). Though recently refurbished and modernized inside, architectural cues are maintained in small ways from wall art to the elevators and even in the bathroom mirrors which are the same shape as the exterior arched windows. It is a thoughtful package that immediately gives you the impression you are a guest in a place of high quality.
Every staff member we encountered was friendly and professional. As a Platinum Elite, we were upgraded to the 33rd floor with a breathtaking view of the city. The room featured an exceptionally comfortable bed and pillows, a Nespresso machine, a dressing area, robes, slippers, a jet shower (best shower in any hotel, anywhere!!) and a smart toilet with warming, washing and drying options.
We were granted access to the M-Club lounge which featured all day light snacks and beverages, evening happy hour and daily breakfast. Though we’ve experienced lounges with better views and food offerings, this one was clean, modern and well attended.
Our short visit featured unusually balmy weather for a Montreal December allowing us to enjoy walking the city above ground. Should we return again during seasonably cold weather, we discovered the hotel is connected to the underground network that would allow accessing retail, restaurants and the metro without walking outside. Regardless of the time of year or weather, we will definitely stay here again when visiting Montreal.

Took my daughter to her first hockey game and decided to stay here because of location, price and my daughter's one request it must have a pool. Fun fact, despite their website which has only recently been updated, they have no pool. She was really disappointed and to be honest if I had know I would have chose elsewhere as this was a huge request she had for our weekend getaway.
Other than that though this hotel is great. It's location is perfect for pretty much anything you want to do downtown. Rooms were spacious and well kept. We stayed in a newly renovated room which had plenty of room. Staff were friendly and more than helpful with anything you might need. Food in the restaurant was delicious but I was sad to hear from a waiter that it was closing. Not sure if they are just renovation or just closing up shop. My daughter was amazed at the doormen taking our bags and opening the doors, and calling the elevator for us. She said "dad I feel like I'm the queen". So despite being upset over the pool I promised her she had a great time and love the view of the beautiful city from out high floor with the 180 view windows. For trips with friends or with my wife I will definitely stay here again, but kids trips will be based on their requests.

I think so, but the hours may be reduced. I was only there on week days, but I heard the front desk describe it to someone else.hope that helps ! It is a good lounge.
Yes, albeit primarily an adult lounge area.
The door that connects to the underground might not be open 100% of the time but it is certainly connected to the underground.
The downside of the underground is that there are a lot of ups and downs and some portions only have stairs. Walking outside is often faster. Still, it beats walking in the snow.
