This is the second time we've stayed at hotel espresso, both times to attend games at the bell centre. I've found this to be the best rate available right in downtown. It's just a 2 minute walk to st. Catherine st. Bishop st and crescent st are both within 10 minutes. The bell centre is also less than 10 minutes... More

Positives: very good location in terms of walking to shops, restaurants, bars. Hotel staff was extremely nice and friendly. Negatives: Photos on hotel booking sites must have been taken some years ago - the property is much more sketchy and rundown than the photos convey. There were many people hanging around outside and in the lobby that do not appear... More

I will not be staying at this hotel a second time. The outside of the building looked run down and not what you would expect for a hotel that charges $200 per night!! The hallway leading to our room looked like it had not been vacuumed in days. The room was outdated and nothing like their website photos, the beds... More

The exterior does not look very appealing, but inside we had a nice check-in at the reception. Lobby is small but nice. Staff is helpful and friendly. You can park your car in the parking lot next to the hotel. The room is pretty large, renovated so it looks fairly modern. Bathroom still looks a bit more old-fashioned, apart from... More

Driving up to the hotel it has an older look with some newer signage. I wasn't sure what to expect when I went in but I was pleasantly surprised. The desk staff for our entire stay was excellent. They were friendly, knowledgable, and quick to make sure you were having a good stay. The lobby has been renovated and is... More

Older hotel. Really good location to the highways. Parking below. Has small restaurant. Fairly decent buffet. Bar closes early.nice little grocery/souvenir shop by lobby. Large vehicles. Limited street parking. But who wants to have a semi in downtown Montreal? Rooms were very large & clean. Stay again? Yes.

This is NOT a 3-star hotel even though it is within a few minutes of some excellent hotels. A social services clinic is run out of the hotel on the 2nd floor resulting in clients filling the lobby and hanging around the front entrance. The hotel is run down and located in a rundown neighbourhood. If we had paid $79... More

We had a great room. Very large. Recently redone bathroom. Quite comfortable and clean. We were near the elevators and there was an adjoining room and still our room was quiet. Safe area across from the police station. Very reasonable rates. Downsides: Two very loud parties on each night we were there. They were on the second floor and we... More

We stayed at this hotel over the September long weekend and it was an absolute disaster. It is not a 3 star by any standard. I traveled there with my family and the hotel room was atrocious. It was dirty, moldy bathroom, shower backing up. Dirty cup on floor and the worst were the dirty linens. It was really disgusting... More

This was a decent hotel at first. The room was clean and spacious and staff were friendly. My wife and I booked in for three nights. On the last night, a Saturday, at least two young men booked into the room next door. They were rather noisy, but not enough to complain to management. They went out about 10.30 p.m.... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
