The hotel is located conveniently downtown in the old city of Montreal. We arrived after nearly three weeks travelling throughout Canada and having stayed at similar starred locations however this hotel set a new standard. This hotel is quaint yet large enough to offer all the amenities you would want. My biggest complaint is the room wasn't ready on time. I cannot say enough about this hotel. The common areas and the rooms were stunning and immaculate, the restaurant was fantastic, the staff were absolutely impeccable, the spa was incredible, and the location is perfect. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. Well worth every penny!

Location is top. While not in the midst of the tourist crazy Rue St. Paul area, it is a very nice short walk to the Rue St. Paul area. I had to cancel last minute because of a medical emergency. I called the hotel at 1am the day of arrival which is within their cancellation policy. This is a lovely Hotel in the centre of Miserable Montreal, the rooms are lovely and the hotel is beautiful BUT the service is dreadful trying to get anything is a complete nightmare and ruined our stay and we were woken up on the two nights we stayed at 5AM with banging coming from what sounded like rooms being renovated....

The Hotel St James is a five star property. Smaller Hotel but terrific location and beautiful facilities. Well trained staff. However, the Hotel exterior is being remodeled. This project will take several months. Be forewarned ! A real nuisance and will get noisier as time goes by. Expensive Hotel.

Had the opportunity to stay in this hotel on a recent trip to Montreal. From the time you arrive to the time you leave the service is excellent, unobtrusive and consistent. I was upgraded to a junior suite which was appreciated, and found the room to be beautifully appointed, well fitted and the bed and linens of the highest quality....
