Getting there
Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Our room was large and clean, with plenty of storage space. The shower was fine, though it did occasionally stop for a few moments. We were on the third floor, with a view of the airshaft, but the AC worked. It was clean and the bed was good. Yes, it is fairly basic, with no breakfast and an iffy coffee machine (but with a Keurig in the room), so I'd really like to rate it 4.5, but I went with 5 because we appreciated what we got for the price.
What else? . . . The staff members were all nice and helpful. We heard noise from other rooms just once or twice. I'm not adding photos because the ones that are posted accurately reflect what we got.
If you don't need luxury, just a comfortable place to rest, Hotel St-Denis is an excellent choice. We would stay there again.

I spent three nights at this very cozy hotel. From the outside, it looks unremarkable, but once you enter the doors, there is a warm ambience, which is accentuated by the friendly and caring staff.
The room I had was quite spacious and included a sitting area. I'm glad that they had non-carpeted flooring in my room. The room was spotless and the cleaning staff did a great job every day. The coffee machine was a godsend and I appreciated having a mini fridge. Although the view I had was not great, I really appreciated not facing out onto the street because my room was so quiet! (my previous hotel stay was extremely noisy from street traffic). The location is great - just a 15 min walk to central downtown, 15 minute walk to Old Montreal, and plenty of restaurants within walking distance in the Village - and lots of entertainment around! It was only a 2 block walk to the bus stop to take the shuttle to the airport ($11). I will definitely stay here the next time I am in Montreal!

We were very pleased. We had the 2 double beds and a pull out couch which worked out great -our teenage kids got separate beds. It gets a bit tight when the couch is pulled out but we’ll worth it. The location is great - not far from Old Montreal, Downtown, Chinatown and the subway. It was clean and comfortable. The shower is a separate room from the toilet & sink so that was nice that the washroom wasn’t steamy and both could be used by separate family members at the same time. It was very hot when we were in Montreal and the A/C worked well.

We stayed at Hotel St Denis to attend Osheaga 2023. The location is great - just a block and a half from the UQAM station you want to get to Parc Jean Drapeau. We were in room 305, which was relatively small but comfortable. The TVs in each room are quite small (30" maybe) and with the distance from the bed they feel a little too small for the set up. The beds were comfortable and the included parking was nice and close (just around the corner). The maximum clearance is 6'2 however, so if you have a lifted truck you will need to park elsewhere. Our only real complaint would be the housekeeping service. We generally tip housekeeping at the end of our stay, however in this case we definitely did not. We stayed for four nights. The first day we returned and our bed was made and towels were refreshed. The second day we returned (at 11pm) and nothing had been done at all. No bed making, no fresh towels, nothing. Maybe they just missed it? The third day, same deal - not a thing done. The fourth day, you guessed it. Wasn't touched. I've never in my life stayed at a hotel in Canada with such piss poor service. Even in third world countries the housekeeping staff do their job regardless of when or how much you tip. The service in this place blew my mind. As much as I love the location, I couldn't in good conscience stay here again.

I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars, but I don't want to mislead anyone. It is a budget 3 star hotel. It is not luxurious in any way and some very minor issues, so I went w/4. I found this hotel online and the reviews/ratings seemed a bit better than the last hotel I stayed in when I went to Montreal and it was a bit better. Pros: Great employees. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I was greeted by everyone. I encountered two housekeeping members and while their English (and my French) was limited, we both spoke Spanish, so that was nice. I have to say the sheets and towels were extremely clean. No mattress protector like I've seen in other hotels (just a mattress pad) but no issues. The mattress was very comfortable. Bathroom had a great blow dryer and sufficient lighting (see below). Mini fridge in closet. Keurig in room. Elevator was quick. 24 hour front desk staff (I think I saw 5 all very nice). Great location, a half block from St. Catherine, just a block from "The Village". Parking was enclosed/secure, heated and just a half a block around the corner. Room was reasonably quiet (double windows) but I could hear people just talking in a room on one side and a couple enjoying themselves in another, but overall, fine. Price was a great value (got a special that included parking). Cons: Furniture is dated. Bathroom had one light that was strobing occasionally (hardwired fixture or I would have just taken out the bulb. One other light in the bathroom was out, but in a corner, so that didn't matter. Small toilet, but if it was bigger/oblong, the door wouldn't have cleared it. Needed a better/thicker toilet seat that soft-closed, but ok. Two switches, but both just turned on both fan and lights (would have been great if separately controlled. Just wired incorrectly). Water temp and pressure were adequate, except for a few mins Monday morning. Barely a trickle (not enough to shower) but it fixed itself in a few minutes. Ice machine in lobby broken (not sure if there was another somewhere else).

The hotel was prompt in responding and ensuring all of my requests were completed to perfection. The parking situation was a bit difficult to get into to, however it is free and at this location it is worth it.
We got the suite with spotless jacuzzi and very romantic atmosphere (even though view from the window was another room). Very good value for the price. Will come back again

At the end of our trip to Canada we decided to spend a couple of nights in Montreal before flying home to UK. Since it was going to be a brief visit we chose a very central hotel and in this respect the Hotel St-Denis was perfect. The reception area looks rather tired but we were checked in without any trouble and took the small lift to our room. The room was adequate but again very tired. The tap to the sink was unbelievably wobbly and felt as though it might fall off at any moment (it didn't!). The room had a TV, safe, wardrobe and airconditioning. The aircon was pretty noisy but it worked which was great. The one thing that was VERY spasmodic was the Wifi; almost impossible to connect in the evening but we found some limited reception in the morning. Trying it out of our room in the small seating area behind reception didn't help. We arrived mid evening and needed to find somewhere to eat. We asked at reception and some suggestions were made. We didn't need to worry as there were a number of convenient restaurants in the same street. When we checked out, our flight wasn't until the evening and reception were helpful in storing our luggage while we enjoyed a final day in the city. When we returned at 4pm they also quickly found us a cab which was great. There is a saying that you get what you pay for, and the charge for a hotel in central Montreal was very reasonable. The room was perfectly adequate, but I wouldn't want to have stayed more than a couple of nights. If you are looking for a reasonably priced bed for the night then this will probably fit the bill, providing you don't need a decent internet connection.

Parking is available at extra-cost, behind the hotel, and the accommodation itself is basic and acceptable. Pricing might be based on location, as it is at a walkable distance from the main promenade of Old Port. The air conditioning is old and noisy and even if one chooses to sleep with the windows open... the noise from the next door's building's AC is bothersome.

Room is huge - it has all the amenities. Location is great. Clean hotel. Helpful staff/receptionist. Free water, hot choco and coffee in the lobby. This is not a modern hotel but is well kept, painting is still good and the building has this classic feel to it. Our room has its own coffee machine and they provide 3 coffee pods, sugar, creamer and mugs. Great!

Stayed here for a little weekend getaway with my partner. There is definitely nothing luxurious about this hotel but the location is amazing, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean, no complaints at all. I always enjoy the smaller little boutique type hotels personally as there is usually a lot more character. There are a lot of restaurants/bars just up the street and it’s about 15 minutes walking to Old Montreal. The metro is also literally up the street. We parked at an underground parking garage around the corner from the hotel, attached to one of the UQAM buildings and for two nights it only cost us $25 which I was very impressed with. Friendly check-in staff and the building is locked with a code so it feels safe and secure. Would definitely stay here again next time we visit.
