This high-class property is located within a lovely old building in the heart of Old Montreal (just a block away from the Cathedral). The quality of the hotel trim is top-notch and you feel you are in an oasis of class starting with the large stone-walled atrium. The rooms had nice amenities although our window faced the interior atrium which...

This hotel was right in the heart of Old Montreal. It was perfect place to stay if you want to stay in the centre of the old town. There are many restaurants and bars right outside the hotel. The staff was great, no problems. We had a very comfortable stay and would return.

So my husband and I are sitting in our living room the week of a big Nor'Easter and began to discuss options to take a mini vaca to Florida. Lo and behold, we chose to re-visit the Hotel Nelligan for a romantic, nostalgic getaway to Montreal! Who needs boring old Florida when you have the quaint beauty and warmth that...

This is a nice hotel, in a charming city with a great staff, but there is one thing that you should keep in mind if you happen to be a light sleeper, namely that you should ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Since the hotel is located in a relatively hopping section of town (and across...

Great old building, terrific renovation, great restaurant, good gym, fabulous vacation, and fine service. What more do you need. Oh ... and the rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are clean roomy, and functional.

The lobby is quaint and lovely, with comfy chairs and a fireplace. The room is gorgeous and spacious--even though it is the least expensive. The bathroom is huge and spotless. The continental breakfast is many cuts above. The only complaint is that we did not partake of any of the wine, soft drink, or food items in the room, but...

The hotel is lovely - great Old Montreal ambience which we love. Our room was large and very nice. We had a package including continental breakfast, which also was very good. Besides being a beautiful hotel, the staff were outstanding. Unlike other places we have stayed in Old Montreal, they did not make us feel like they were doing us...

I loved this boutique hotel- warm reception upon arrival. Beautiful, chic restaurant in hotel- sat at bar while waited for room to be ready (we were early.) Room was GORGEOUS and spacious- beautiful view down to the main street, fireplace, and comfy bed. Beautiful bathroom too. We were asked how our stay was, and everyone was sooo accommodating, warm and...

Where to start... So I'm not actually staying here tonight, because I'm partial to staying in new places to get a better picture of the area. But I'm currently sitting in the Lobby because I can think of no better place to pass the early afternoon hours before dinner. A cozy fire and couch along with a glass of wine...

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
