Stayed in a 6 bed female dorm for 1 night. It was muggy and smelled of sweat. No airflow and AC was broken. Beds are small and old mattresses. Had a bad sleep, which was made worst by the noise. There is a terrace on the roof, and the dorm is right by staircase that goes up to it. Until 1am there were loud partiers going up and down the staircase, keeping everyone in my dorm awake. So, bring earplugs. On the second floor there are only 2 toilets, so I had to wait in line every time for the bathroom. The staff were decently friendly but the other people in my dorm were not. They had a loud conversation in French about how much they dislike anglophones right in front of me. I suppose they didn't know I speak and understand french.. not the hostels fault, but speaks to the vibe of the place, it's very local. I've stayed in other hostels that are a little more expensive, but have more of a classic hostel feel - international and welcoming. Overall bad experience. Next time I will pay 10-20$ more for one of Montreal's more modern and welcoming hostels.

I loved my stay at Gite du Plateau Mont-Royal! I should preface with the fact that I stayed in a private bedroom with a shared bathroom, which I imagine is different than the experience in a shared dorm. Anywho, my room was everything I needed. Plenty of room, it’s own sink and mirror, and a desk with drawers. It had a fan that worked shockingly well considering it was midsummer and reasonably hot during my stay. I slept comfortably each night. The bathrooms are shared but not like a locker room. each shower and toilet is private with own door. I honestly never had to wait for a shower or a toilet at any time. The WiFi was decent. Enough to text or search google maps. They have an awesome rooftop and on a Friday night had a BBQ with live music and a little bar with beers and wine and they were grilling up burgers. Lots of fun. The pancake breakfast is wonderful. In my opinion it is everything you could need - coffee, juice, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, toast. The hostel is very centrally located. It’s one minute to the 24 Bus which goes up and down Sherbrooke and 5 min to the MetroStation which will pretty much get you anywhere in Montréal. The staff is so super friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in. I felt really comfortable right from when I checked in. I would def recommend this to any travelers alone or otherwise. Particularly the private rooms. Thank you Gite du Plateau Mont-Royal!!!

Wonderful stay in Room #1 with private room and bathroom. Although described as basement, had a window at street level and plenty of overhead and lamp lighting in the room. Shower worked well, nice sheets and they provided a towel. Mattress is very firm. Extremely clean room as well as common area where basic breakfast is provided including pancakes, apples, yogurt, toast, and coffee. Very cozy seating area. Clare at the front desk as well as kitchen employees could not have been nicer or more accommodating. I am 50-something traveler and felt right at home - also saw a family with two children staying there. Bus stop is just outside the door and it’s an easy walk to multiple metro stations, but I enjoyed just walking the area and then taking transit when I could walk no more!

We stayed two nights in a 8 bed dormitory. You are welcome by a friendly staff, everybody was so nice. The hostel is quiet and seems like a big cosy house. The place is really clean, especially the bathrooms. Which is enjoyable. I recommend. Thanks again for you welcome. See you!
