The room is clean, spacious, TV, bed comfort OK, good assortment of toiletries , ironing board, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Bottled water is free to members of the chain. Wifi is free.
Dinner in the busy restaurant full of travelers was very good.
Airport shuttle runs 24/7 every 15 minutes
No lunch service. I inquired about nearby options and was told there are no other restaurants or stores nearby. I arrived in the midst of a snow storm so did not venture out of the hotel but on departing I saw a Tim Horton's across the street. I could have used this information.
Having said that all staff pleasant and very helpful.
The room was spacious. There was a king size bed which was comfortable. The pillows were not, but that being said, pillows are such a personal choice. There was a couch and a desk area. From a distance, the room looked clean. On closer inspection there was drink stains on the little table by the couch and on the desk/TV area. There was also a hair by the phone and pamphlets. I expected more from the Hilton Brand, as I had just received a email to say that in light of the global pandemic going on, extra cleaning was going to be done.
There were no dining options for dinner within walking distance. I ordered the fish and chips. Mediocre at best. The breakfast is normally $20, and I think that is is usually buffet style, but in light of the health crisis going on, breakfasts were made to order. Basically you were given a choice of eggs, omelettes, bacon, or sausage, and toast. It would be helpful to have a temporary "menu" printed with all the things that are available, which I found out later included fresh fruit, juice, and probably more choices which I did not know about.
The hotel did offer a shuttle service to the airport. I took the 1:15 shuttle on March 17. I requested the driver to drop me off at the Air Canada Domestic flight terminal. His response was that there was only 1 drop area for Air Canada passengers. I thought that that was kind of strange. When I went to check in at the Air Canada Counter, she told me that I was in the wrong area to check in for my domestic flight. Hmmmm.....not a problem for me to walk to right area to check in, but if I had mobility issues, it could be a problem.
As much as I normally enjoy the Hilton brand, there were a few disappointments with this stay. There is the plus of being close to the airport, but I would rather stay in a hotel where there were things to do within walking distance.
Cleaning lady was friendly, hard working, but was not allowed to provide us clean towels without manager approval… manager argued with us, told us this is higher management decision, due to covid-19 no cleaning rooms, or entering for cleaning at all. We were shocked by the way how all was handled. Night before we checked out and asked at the front desk if there is a guests luggage room to leave our luggage for additional few hours (our flight was late afternoon), we were told to check in the morning because if one luggage is already in that room, additional luggage can not be placed there (due to covid-19)… another disappointment… next morning when we checked out front desk guy said no problem at all, and kept our luggage with another guests luggage too at the same luggage room, just behind front desk. In general staff is not trained well, and the manager is not professional at all. We are not going back to this hotel.
What staff and management do in exceptional situations like these (dozens of people getting bumped from preferred location) is what separates a great team from an indifferent one. This hotel earned the 5 star all the way.
There were just a couple quirks--almost every electrical outlet was so worn out that they wouldn't hold in the plugs in to charge our devices. It was very tricky to charge our devices, and some plugs couldn't be used. A refresh of the outlets would be a great upgrade.
The hotel shuttle to the airport was a little rough, which unfortunately can be the first and last impression of the hotel. The web site doesn't say how to catch the shuttle from the airport, and it's not on the list of hotels to call on the airport display. Looking up the hotel phone number got an explanation that the shuttle runs only every half hour, which could explain why the shuttle waited at the airport instead of circulating after picking up the small crowd of people who had been waiting for it. On the way back to the airport, the front desk informed us that they had reserved a ride for us at 5:15am. But when we got there on time, the driver informed us we were late, and indeed, the bus was full of people who must have been waiting. When we tried to explain that we were told to be there at 5:15, the driver couldn't communicate what happened in English, but we all got to the airport. There seems to be some sort of miscommunication between the front desk and the shuttle driver. Maybe this is a staffing shortage problem, but I would recommend patience with the hotel shuttle for now.
The hotel is conveniently located close to the airport and provides guest parking at an extra cost.
The rooms were averagely comfortable, and the dinner and breakfast options were appreciated in terms of convenience.
