This is a great spot to stay when visiting downtown. It's a short walk from the train station. The staff were friendly. This establishment cares about the community, with the funds going towards the YWCA. Staying here is a win for the guest and a win for the community. This was my first time here and I was more than...

I did a double take when I first found this location online as, being a male, I had stayed only at YMCAs previously. However, the YMCA in Montreal closed its lodging section over a decade ago so I needed to find a new place, and the YWCA, which used to be restricted to women only, now accepts both genders. Well,...

If you're looking for a budget hotel without sacrificing amenities, this is the place to stay. The room, though small, had everything you would expect Ina hotel - coffee maker, fridge, iron and board, tv and wifi. There's a kitchen with several tables you can use if you want to prepare a meal, with lots of dishes, utensils and pots...

We enjoyed our stay. Shared a room with two small beds. Pros: 1. Excellent aid conditioning, which was critical in this July 2016 heat wave. 2. Affordable. 3. Clean and quiet. We could not hear any street noise, although admittedly our room did not face Rene Levesque. If you want a quieter room, consider asking for a west facing room,...

You get it all. Downtown, close to the festivals and French immersion with out all the chichi. The room is clear, the staff welcoming. Another way of travelling just like we used to travel on the roads to nowhere.

we stayed for 4 nights and only saw 3 other guests the whole time. the showers were hot and powerful. towels and face cloths are provided, and there is a soap dispenser on the wall ( no hair dryer). the beds were comfy and the air conditioning was nice. the front desk staff were very helpful, even offered us an...

PROs: big window, nice view, safe upscale area (across the street from the IBM building!), good value for the money, decent closet space, staff is friendly and helpful, and you are supporting programs that help lower income women and girls. CONs: walls are thin, doors slam shut (so you might get woken up in the middle of the night), bed...

I´ve stayed at this YWCA various times ever the past decade so my attachment to this location is both sentimental and practical. The rooms are both comfortable and well-appointed with a nice kitchen and a free computer for public use on the hotel floor. But honestly, as a single female traveller, it´s the staff who feel more like family that...

This YWCA is about a 15 minute walk from the train station and very close to the metro and the Musee des Beaux Arts. We had a private room which has a basin and TV. The shared bathrooms were clean. We didn't take advantage of the shared kitchen. The wi-fi worked well. As in many places with shared bathrooms, there...

Shared bathrooms and toilets on the sixth floor were NOT clean during the course of my stay. The dryer broke and still not fixed after 5 days. No security personnel - some young males - unclear if they were paying customers - noisy at night, and had one guy pounding a door incessantly at 7 in the morning for no...

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
