had great stay at this hotel arrived late in the morning and staff were very welcoming, the hotel is situated a couple of blocks from the metro station, so easy to get around and in an area that is very trendy ,lots of small independent cafe's and restaurants serving food from around the world, a good choice to choose from. the rooms are well equipped ,had a small kitchen area where you could easily cook if you wanted to, a nice comfy bed and a small seating area, also a small area outside to sit ,,the staff were very helpful, Abi the owner was very accommodating printing out tickets for us and giving us information on where to go ,this small hotel is attached to an Ethiopian restaurant , and rooms are on the same feel, it is done very tastefully with hints of Africa in the décor ,but not too much really enjoyed our stay would definitely stay again…
Ambitious boutique hotel with great effort on design/ambience, but certainly not upscale. The jacuzzi in our room was small and cheap - most certainly not luxurious (and the air pumps emitted a very foul odour). Bathrobes were very old and worn. A section of the wall was plastered over but not repainted to correct colour. And certainly the suite didn't have a sense of freshness (air quality & other) that one would expect from a 4-star hotel. On the upside, the concierge was accommodating, the kitchenette/bar inclusions were great, and the location was a nice in-between spot between popular neighbourhoods in Montreal. I'd have rated this a 3 had the room price not been priced for luxury. This is a niche, but certainly not top-notch accommodation.
I have stayed in this hotel several times now. It is only four floors. Each room is charming and updated with a kitchenette for cleaning wine glasses and plate. It is connected to the equally awesome Ethiopian restaurant The Blue Nile which offers in room dining. Great little fire escape patio which is quintessential Montreal architecture. So much to see in a 30 min walking radius.
I've got a list of my favorite hotels for staying on the Plateau, and Kutuma is solidly at the top of the list. The location is convenient, the rooms quirky but pleasant, and I've always had top-notch service from staff (including them being very accommodating when I accidentally booked two rooms instead of one). They only have valet parking, but the charges are reasonable and the staff very fast at retrieving vehicles. Only oddity? The entire hotel sits upstairs of an Ethiopian restaurant (same owners, indeed, the check-in desk is also the maitre d's station for the restaurant), and the highly aromatic (but pleasing) odors from the restaurant are present through most of the hotel. It's definitely not unpleasant, but if you like Ethiopian food? You'll often be hungry
Kutuma Hotel in Montreal, Quebec, offers a nice room. But the location is not really as I expected.. (personally would rather choose Old Montreal area once visited the area). If you plan to stay there try to book rooms at lower level since there is no elevator (got the room at 4th floor, but luckily the hotel staff help carrying our big luggages up and downstair). The hotel reception staff were all nice.
Very clean friendly staff we arrived after midnight they just gave us our room keys and said we could check in tomorrow morning our room had a African decor it also had a kitchenette which would be great for an extended stay
Someone from the hotel called me the evening before to tell me that they needed to cancel (due to a technical issue), and were looking for another property. We booked through booking.com (A mistake, I've since found out), so I reached out to them first. The hotel then called me back and said that they COULD accommodate us. In the middle of the night, we received an email from Booking.com that our reservation was indeed cancelled, so at 4:30am, while on my vacation, I was forced to search for another hotel. I had to apply for a refund via Booking.com, the hotel shorted my refund, causing me to email and call Booking.com several times. We stayed at the Loft Hotel instead which my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. As much as I love staying at smaller properties, I have no tolerance for poor customer service. Thank goodness we had an available credit line to cover the cost of the additional hotel, if we were using a debit card, we would have had no place to stay due to how long it takes for refund.…
Moving some family into the neighborhood. We made a reservation at the Hotel Kutuma a few days before. Checking in after a long day in August lift and carrying the Kutuma was an oasis. Valet parking, friendly staff, very comfortable room. The room was very tastefully decorated and had many amenities. Plenty of plugs for electronic devices, a small kitchenette, a lovely separate sitting area. The bathroom shower was excellent. There is a restaurant in the this small hotel that looks wonderful too. We will be back soon, I'm sure.
Beautiful Hotel in a great part of Montreal. 2 blocks from the Sherbrooke metro, on a street with lots of food, drinks, boutiques, walking distance from Mont Real. And during our trip, there was an evening, light-up parade down the street in front of the house to celebrate Quebec Day. The room itself was huge, beautiful, comfortable, quiet, with luxury amenities from everything from the shower to the king size bed to the toiletries. Even with the parade outside, the room itself was totally quiet. The staff were the nicest, willing to answer any questions. They even let our friends store their luggage there for a few hours before their flight. Plus, you smell delicious Ethiopian food whenever you enter the hotel or leave your room for the hallway. It's enchanting!
Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with this hotel in regards to location, furnishings, friendly staff, and comfort level. All the reviews are accurate, except no one mentions that because this hotel is located directly above a restaurant, the room can take on a very strong food smell. I’m not sure if this is because our room was on the second floor (there are three floors) and the restaurant is on the first, but the entire time our room had an overpowering smell of cooked onions, garlic and tomato. Sounds delicious, right, but it wasn’t that great considering the smells just never left, morning or night, despite us turning up the air conditioning to air out the room. Although we had a gorgeous room (as the photos are accurate), I can’t imagine staying there again. The smell is stuck to my memory! …
