As a couple of former Montrealers returning for a visit, we found this place was in a PERFECT location for us – close to all the BEST bits of town, and easy walking to most places we wanted to go. We found the African decor a bit WILD – but the rooms were easy to slip into, comfy and clean,... More

To be perfectly honest, I have never in my entire life taken the time to write a hotel review but I want to share with all the travelers to Montreal that without question, Hotel Kutuma should be everyone's hotel of choice. People always mistakenly book with the national outfits like W, The Fairmont, Sheraton, and Delta because its like going... More

We stayed at this hotel for a conference with our 3 month old son. Overall our experience was good, but we would not recommend the hotel for those with babies or small children. The location is excellent - far enough up St. Denis to avoid the noise but close enough to walk both there as well as in the other... More

We stayed in the Hotel Kutuma during what was predominantly a three-week tour of the East Coast of America, and boy, was the room and its facilities a sight for sore eyes after back-to-back travelling and eating out constantly. We were thrilled to bits by the kitchenette and fairly close proximity (10-12 minute walk) to a decent supermarket (on Saint... More

The location is great for a visit to the city, near lots of restaurants. The African themed decor is classy and elegant. The rooms have many nice touches (we looked at a few), and are spotless. The staff were very helpful.

Kutuma evidently means "Welcome" and it is well-named. The rooms are large with contemporary decor and a usable small kitchen. There is a great Ethiopian restaurant on the first floor that is affiliated with the hotel. Staff was extremely helpful, including directions and information about events. The hotel is convenient to the Old Port and other attractions, expecially using the... More

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Kutuma for one night over Labor Day weekend. I didn't warn my husband about the safari themed decor and he was a little confused when we first arrived... but overall we had a wonderful stay. Pros: -Great location: lots of restaurants, bars, and shops on Rue St. Denis. About a 20 minute walk... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
