I'm guessing that this is a family-run establishment, and that they bought the place at its low point and are working now to fix it up themselves. The process isn't going very well as far as we can see, though. The room we stayed in had some new elements and some really old ones -- and the old ones were nothing short of disgusting. One wall had a big heating unit that may be from the 1950s, and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned since it was installed. The bathroom was a mix of old exposed plumbing and new tile, but the floor had big open spaces where tile had apparently been laid incorrectly. Worst of all, the room reeked of stale cigarette smoke, including the towels in the bathroom. With no amenities—no hand towels, no shelf or vanity space in the bathroom, no blow dryer, not even any plastic cups or a bucket for ice—this place is really not ready for prime time.

The place is not the worst I have stayed in, only because the room is large and there was hot water for the shower. The overwhelming stench of stale cigerettes and cleaning chemicals would make most people gag. Filthy floors and fan a/c would not work. Combined with montreals traffic problems this was not a great place to stay. Its also on a little off sttreet that is not easy to find.

When you first arrive at Motel Saint-Jacques, the initial impression is not positive.... however look beyond the dated exterior and tiny, chaotic-looking reception and you'll find a very friendly, accessible place to stay. Rooms are large, air-conditioned and feature private bathrooms. Basic toiletries are replenished daily but the bathroom floors could do with a clean (we stayed in a couple of rooms during our stay so I feel qualified to comment on this issue). The toilets themselves are tucked away in a tight corner of the bathrooms, with little room to swing a cat round, but this isn't a major problem. Bedclothes were very clean, and beds comfy. In-room wi-fi worked well most of the time.

There was always a parking space available, and the owners are very accommodating, even allowing us a much later checkout on our final day at no extra cost. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity, most within a couple of minutes' walk.

If you're looking for luxury, this isn't the place for you; however if you're looking for a crash-pad close to the airport and main roads - and your expectations are realistic - you'll find this a good place to stay.

One tip: it's pretty easy to find (even with the current roadworks and resulting diversions across Montreal), but we did initially end up at a similarly-named property a little further up the street called Auberge Motel Saint-Jacques. The woman on reception here was about as rude as you can get, basically refusing to help us because we weren't staying at 'her hotel'. With this in mind, avoid at all costs - they don't deserve business with behaviour like that!

This place is very dirty. Please think twice before go and book there. I will not recommend this area and this rooms to anyone. I even got a bite on my hand now I have to go to the doctor. Tripadvisor should be more selective with the places that they recommend. I’m very very disappointed.

Asked to see room even after having a reservation. We were not comfortable where the motel was located or the rooms. Made the reservations based on ratings. Ending up having to pay for room, but left anyway.

The first impression is a bit terrifying because the facade and windows/doors/metal staircase outside are really old and dirty; but the room itself is much better. The furniture is outdated but i found it clean, when we came the A/C was already on so the room was perfectly cooled for us. The sheets need a stronger detergent to complete bleach out the old stains but they have in fact been cleaned so it was ok. Some other guests looked scary.. The reception/manager is super friendly and very likeable.

It's a budget place but clean and warm with plenty of hot water. Stuck here during a major snowstorm. The motel manager was incredibly helpful and friendly. He helped us clean off our vehicle and get out at 430am and gave us directions. Also told us to call him if we got stuck on our way to the airport. Even refused a tip. Great service!

Perfect classic motel. Clean rooms, crisp fresh smelling sheets, firm bed. Plus the price(67$ tax in) and the location are perfect. One bus to get downtown (the 90), a McDonald's a small block away. The service is nice and efficient. There's dependable, okay speed Wi/Fi, but no breakfast. If you're an early riser, there are coffee shops nearby- a ten minute walk, they open at 7 am, and of course the McDonald's, three minutes away.
I'll definitely come back.
