Check Frontenac website for my review. It was a spectacularly disappointing stay for what we expected on booking and checking in at this marvelous looking place. We tried to upgrade before we arrived and was told it must be done at check in. We tried upgrading at check in and was assured an upgrade was available and assigned the additional cost to the bill. Upon arriving at the room we were so dumbstruck at how incredibly average the room was I was immediately convinced we were given a regular room at an upgraded price. I chose not to argue with the desk and start a romantic get-away off on a very bad foot so I swallowed hard and ate it. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone. Stay at a boutique hotel and have dinner and the Chateau. Completely not worth it.
The chateau Frontenac is an elegant beautiful and well maintained luxury hotel in the heart of Old Town Quebec. Services agent for imperfect, rooms are small and prices are high. The $40 per day valet parking is hectic and not a peaceful experience thus I recommend self parking at the hotel de ville public parking lot just a 5-minute walk away. My wife and I arrived by car and parked nearby at the hotel de ville public parking lot which I learned about from another trip advisor reviewer. We walked the three blocks to the hotel and checked in at 1:00 p.m. with no line. The receptionist was charming and polite and gave us a small upgrade as part of the AmEx fhr program, and then successfully sold me an even better upgrade to a mini suite for $80 per night extra. It wasn't quite a hard Sell but she commented how she could do it for $80 instead of the regular $129. Since I had read about how small the rooms were and my best friend and his wife had already checked in to a tiny room the upgrade seems like a wonderful idea and it was. Oversized room included a small sitting area in the corner and a Keurig coffee machine. Tours: Since it was our friends first visit to Quebec City we took the city tour organized by the hotel which was more a history lesson and it was just okay. The tour guide was not a hotel employee but she was great. The next day we took a hotel tour which we hoped would give us access to hidden rooms and structures and Architectural insights. In fact it focused on the public rooms and was only fair. Our group was so large they had two guides one was charming and polite. Our groups guide was a bit impatient not charming and did not seem to really like his job. he did not enjoy questions. We went to the restaurant for cocktails and an outstanding cheese platter. The buffet breakfast was very good as was the service. Fresh fruit, cheese, omelettes, eggs benedict, salmon. Crepes and waffles also. Our five cocktails and cheese platter came to $180. Breakfast was included with our fhr stay, but our friends indicated it was pricey I think they said $50 a person. Le château was built in stages, and is huge with hundreds of rooms over 9 or more floors. Of the rooms are ship cabin size but the beds are comfortable and the shower only bathrooms are clean and efficient although small. It is a beautiful and magnificent Hotel and we spent many minutes exploring the different corners of our floor and others. The exercise room is adequate although small and the pool and jacuzzi are fine and functional. The in-room hotel bill tracking system was not working and we saw multiple charges that were not ours. This was corrected at the front desk but the final bill still had a major error and overcharge from our bar and restaurant night. Had I not caught it on the printed copy we would have been overcharged by $60. As a wonderful reputation and is quite lovelly. With only two nights in town we chose to eat elsewhere and I regret that decision. Our maid was Mexican and very polite and efficient. Was great to practice my Spanish. In summary The chateau Frontenac is well located elegant and charming with mostly excellent and polite staff. To stay if you can afford $500 plus per night rooms on your first visit. Quebec City is terribly touristic even if it is beautiful. Given the small rooms and super high prices I will likely stay elsewhere on my next visit. …
Our opinion is that of the Fairmont chain of Chateaus built in the early 1900s to entice the people to holiday via train, the two most eloquent are the chateau Frontignac in Quebec and the one in Banff. Externally Chateau Frontignac is a stunning landmark that allows you, as a visitor, to constantly reorientate yourself and internally, although not as expansive as Banff, lives up to its luxious reputation.
I reviewed this hotel shortly before the covid outbreak and returned this year. I thought I would provide a brief update regarding this hotel which is one of the nicest Fairmonts we have stayed in before. The iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City was officially our daughter’s 100th hotel in her life at the age of 20 months old, not counting duplicates of hotels where we stayed more than once. This stay was booked many months ago, originally planned for December but I was sick and the hotel thankfully agreed to reschedule to January despite being passed the cancellation deadline. This hotel has a great reputation, for what it’s worth they won best luxury hotel in the world according to “World Luxury Hotel Awards”. This is quite a high standard to reach, I would settle for maybe one of the best in North America but regardless, the point is that this hotel does not have many flaws no matter how we look at it. They claim to be the most photographed hotel in the world as it’s the city landmark, a stunning castle overlooking the river. Being #1 hotel in pictures, that I can believe more easily. How often do random tourists actually take a picture of a hotel anyway? My guess is that 99%+ of tourists coming to Quebec City take a picture of the Fairmont hotel. If not it must be because their phone is broken. I booked the entry level room and was originally upgraded to a signature room as Accor Diamond, however because of our early check-in the room was not ready so they proactively further upgraded to junior suite which was available immediately. Most hotels would actually do the opposite if we arrive too early. The suite was not very big but this is a very old hotel with most rooms being on the small side, a room 45 sqm was quite good here. We had lovely river views from our room as well. The public areas of this hotel are great especially the restaurants and bars. The hotel has excellent dining options popular with people not even staying at the hotel. Our daughter received a celebration cake and card marking her 100th hotel and we got a bottle of champagne, not to mention 3 welcome drink vouchers and they allowed us to pick whatever we wanted from the menu rather than limit to the cheap stuff - nice all around, everybody happy. Service at this hotel stands out, I would dare to say almost at the level of Asia and the Middle East which almost never happens in North America. As an example, when we ordered room service the server was aware it was our daughter’s 100th hotel. Staff just seem to know who are the guests and what is going on, there is great coordination and communication. Service was professional and polished at reception and in the restaurant. Overall it was a treat returning to Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and I can highly recommend it to everybody, from top tier Accor loyalists to infrequent travelers looking for a historical hotel which will provide a premium experience.…
This is a beautifully maintained hotel with friendly and professional staff in all positions. The rooms are beautiful and the breakfast selections are numerous and high quality. As well, when you stay here, you are treated like an individual and not just a reservation number.
We returned for our second visit. The hotel is top notch. The rooms are well appointed and well maintained. No signs of wear in the 8yrs since our last visit. The staff is friendly and helpful. Both times we stayed on the upper Fairmont Gold floor. Access to breakfast and happy hour in the lounge are a big perk. A shout out to Julia who was friendly and always ready to make my stay more enjoyable. We have had both a river and a city view. Both are good, you get to see everything from the 14th floor lounge. Valet was very helpful as we navigated a car problem. The only problem we had was getting a table at any of the restaurants. They were all booked and the wait for a seat at the bar was 45 min. I can't imagine high season.
Great location, comfortable and clean rooms, and friendly staff. We received complementary tickets to the toboggan ride when we checked in which was so much fun. We also ate in the restaurant one night and ordered room service and the food was good. It’s a tourist destinations to the lobby can get crowded and be a little overwhelming. but overall it was a fantastic experience for our family. Highly recommend this hotel
I promised myself long time ago that there are three Fairmont properties I must stay during my life time, and Le Château Frontenac was one of them. As an avid traveller, I decided to start the new year right and treat myself with an overnight trip to the charming Québec City. The stay at the Château Frontenac was supposed to be a treat on top of the treat. After countless stays in Alberta's and BC's Fairmonts, it may be that my expectations were too high, especially since this was my long time wish and 10th Fairmont property, but overall experience was just right. I arrived to hotel slightly past noon, I was the only guest in the reception area. Between two people at the Bellman desk and two people at the Concierge desk, no one said hello. The Front Desk Agent, when she came from the behind greeted me with "are you checking in?". No hello at all. The room I originally booked was already ready, but since I like to have a view, and this room was overlooking the courtyard, I was offered an upgrade to have either the river view or the city view. Both came with the extra charge, and I decided to go with the City view. I will say that I appreciated detailed explanations of the rooms' positions and the time the agent took to find the nicer room ~ there were some construction works going on, and she didn't want me to have the view blocked by scaffolding. My room ended up being on the third floor, overlooking the Place d'Armes and the Dufferin Terrace and I liked the view. The same way I liked the room. Nicely decorated in light blue tones, three windows with lot of natural lights, office desk and very comfortable soft seating and standard amenities. The bathroom was on a smaller side, but for some reason, I really liked the double door. Room was impressively clean and impeccable. I will add that later in the evening, I heard people in the room next to mine very clearly, but I am not a light sleeper so that didn't bother me. After underwhelming visit to the Fine Arts Museum, and the stroll all around the charming Old Québec, I ordered the room service and must said that the burger was nice. The portion was decent, bit overpriced, but it served its purpose. The server was such a nice gentleman, polite and intuitive. Later on, I was dwelling on if I should make a restaurant reservation or order another room service and decided to eat in the room again. This time I went with the French Onion Soup, which I generally absolutely adore, and the Queen Elizabeth cake. I am not a foody per se, but I know when something is not good. French Onion Soup was probably the most underwhelming meal I have had in a long time. After the first bite, it seemed it was just taken from the freezer, put in the microwave and heated up. Completely tasteless, it felt I was eating chopped onion in water, covered with melted cheese. Bread was mushy. The cake I ordered was good, but it was literally just a brownie. This meal was truly disappointing. Check out was quick, but the next day, I realized I had two additional charges on my card. One was for the upgrade, second one is so random, that I cannot possibly imagine what it is. After I called the hotel, I was explained that I need to talk with accounting department to get the detailed explanation of the charges. After they sent me the updated receipt, I realized that the random charge is not even there and that one room service charge was charged incorrectly. These things happen in the hotels, as a Front Office manager myself, I understand this very clearly, I just don't like dealing with unnecessary issues such as this. Altogether, this wasn't a stay to my liking and I cannot believe that I will rate a Fairmont hotel with less than 5*, especially after waiting 6 years to finally stay in the Castle where the river narrows.…
My husband and I visited Quebec City for the first time just before Christmas. We decided to splurge and stay at the Fairmont and it was definitely worth it. We checked in in the evening and it was quick and simple. I teased the desk clerk about hoping for a room in the turret and she said that yes, we did have a room in the turret! What a wonderful surprise. The room was on the main floor down a hallway past the lobby. It was beautiful and the view of the river was amazing. When we return to the Fairmont we will request the same room! It was quiet and lovely and we almost hated to leave the hotel to explore . . . but we did. The entire hotel was exquisitely decorated for Christmas and it could not have been more festive or beautiful. In fact, we got up at 5:00 one morning so we could take pictures without anyone else being there. So very beautiful! The employees were friendly and very helpful. We consulted with two concierge employees and they both offered great advice and recommendations. One (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) booked a Christmas Tour for us and also a hotel tour. Both tours were incredible and very informative. If you stay at the Fairmont, do not miss the hotel and property tour. Another concierge, named Phillipe I believe, recommended the perfect restaurant for us also -- Maison Livernois. We told him what we were looking for and his recommendation was spot on. We were lucky enough to spend four nights at this very special castle and hated to leave. We both highly recommend this hotel!…
Beautiful, historic hotel. Gold Floor food has slipped. Still magnificent but needs a return to true luxury on Gold Floor. Lobby holiday decorations and fir trees worth a visit! Food and beverage prices high and no longer matched by quality. This is not an area to stony!!
