This Hostel is a good alternative to hotels in central Quebec City that charge exorbitant rates. Located 10 minutes by bus (stop not far from the establishment) from Old Quebec. The rooms, or at least the one we occupied, the 5, was old style which brought a certain charm. The small capacity of the Hostel allows you to enjoy the quiet during the nights.
A terrace allows you to enjoy your meals outdoors using the kitchen equipment provided.
The welcome is friendly.
A small flat for air conditioning that breaks occasionally.

Stayed here recently for a short trip to Quebec City and it exceeded my expectations based on the price. The location was perfect (I was going to a concert at the Videotron). The room was spacious and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and check in was super easy. With the age of the building I expected there to be a lot of noise from the road/other guests but there wasn't and I was able to sleep very well. I would 100% stay here again the next time I'm in the city for a concert!

I always read reviews before choosing a hotel and am usually very happy. This experience was the big exception. We arrived at around 5 pm and our room wasn't ready. We were asked to wait for 5 minutes but it took around 25 minutes. When we got access to the room, cleaning supplies and gloves had been left behind and there was no toilet paper. The room is underground and the stone walls give the impression of being in a dungeon. We chose the hotel because it was supposed to have parking and an electric charger but these were not available. On the plus side, my son said the bed was comfortable and, due to the basement location, it wasn't hot.

Well, we booked this hotel on the basis of past reviews but things have apparently changed. The room was dirty, mould in the shower. There was an air conditioner which did not fit the window and, as it was actually cool outside, we stuffed towels in the gaps to keep cold air/bugs/birds from entering. There is no longer a restaurant.

My husband and I booked a room for this evening at Auberge Amerik. We booked through an agency, and they provided us with a confirmation number. When we did not receive a confirmation from the Auberge, my husband emailed them. They did not reply, which made us a little uneasy. However, he called and spoke with the manager the day before we left for our trip, and he was told that we definitely had the room that we had booked- no problem, and that they looked forward to seeing us. We travelled 1100 km today (from Nova Scotia), and were pretty weary when we pulled up to the Auberge. Imagine our shock when we were greeted by a rather curt, almost unfriendly woman, who handed us a sheet printed from the internet, and said that they had double booked our room and that this was the address for a motel down the road- she had no idea where it was! It turned out to be quite seedy, and we did not feel that we could stay there. Unfortunately, this was a busy weekend, and we could not find another hotel/lodging in Quebec City. We have arrived just outside of Montreal, and have missed our wonderful night and day in Quebec City. We feel very frustrated with this Auberge, and the rather unfeeling treatment that we received. I would definitely tell people to read all of the reviews- there are actually several that present similar experiences. I notice that the manager continually cuts and pastes the same response to these comments. Shame on him.

My partner and I had booked this place online. Then, when we got there, the owner was away and 'apparently' had no knowledge of our booking (despite us receiving a confirmation), and was away for the night. Despite this, no effort was made to accomodate us and it was essentially left as "find somewhere else."

We did just that; found somewhere else much cheaper and much close to the old city.

In a way, thanks Auberge Amerik for failing us.

The Auberge Amerik is only 3 years old and we were victim of our success. Let me apologize to you for this unaceptable situation. We made mistakes, we took actions: 1- We are not listed anymore on sites that take reservations in our name, then sending us last minute email. ALL reservations are taken in our email. 2- A new computerized planning system and a paper backup 3- A full time manager; supervising all operations. Last years 98% of the people who stayed with us had a great experience! We work hard to make sure you have the most memorable experience. Since last year, we don’t have any negative comment from people who actually stayed at the Auberge Amerik.

We had the same bad experience than Adventure from Cincinnati.

We reserved 2 rooms by e-mail. As we didn't have any response from Auberge Amerik, we called. First of all, the guy didn't find our e-mail. After a while, he said ''Okay I find it, no problem: all is ok, I send your confirmation by e-mail, your rooms are reserved.''
We printed that e-mail and brought it with us when went in Quebec.

Like for the people of Cincinnati, he was not at home when we arrived. We were helped by another customer who called the auberge keeper to ask him what to do with us.

He just answered that he had no reservations for us. (Despite the printed e-mail that we brought with us...)

Finally, we found another place to sleep by ourselves.

Welcome in the city of Québec... ¬¬

All I can say is Clearly the owner himself or those he tell to write any and all of the positive review. There is nothing positive to say. We travel around the world , we love to stay in the small hotels, our travel organiser recommend the Auberge Amerik. Terrible and the owner does nothing to make it better. He takes your money and gives you old, run down room and furniture. We share our concern with other Amerik guest and they tell us there is a hole in their bedroom window. By the looks of the other guest review this has been talked about previous times. This property may be ok if it were a hostel for half price but not anything else.

Hello , The Auberge is more then 100 years old, so every month we do improve the mecanic of this building. Yes, one of our regular customer did break a window with the conner of his suitcase, we ordered it and it did take 2 days as these windows are not standard and we repaired it ! The furniture is part old and some is new . We have top quality matress and all the linen is at the most 2 years old . Althougt , you comment is harsh we will use it to accelarate the renovation schedul of the fall.

This was such a great stay! Nicola and Francois are awesome, and the auberge is charming and beautiful. It feels more like you're staying with friends than at a hotel.
In fairness for my review, this was our first non-hotel stay. You can't compare it to a traditional, larger hotel as they are two different things. But as a cute little inn with friendly staff and a great location, it was perfect. We took our bikes and toured around, and were a short drive or walk from anything we needed.
They gave us excellent advice and some certificates to enjoy samples of cider and beer, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The last time we were in Quebec, no one even mentioned the island to us- but Francois and Nicola went out of their way to recommend the island, the falls and the beach! All of their suggestions were awesome. I really feel like we got to fully experience Quebec City this time.
Stay in the spring- there are fewer crowds and I suspect the little room we stayed in would get pretty warm in the summer (there's no AC that I know of, and the weather was in the 20's so it got pretty hot at night).
All in all, this was an excellent place to stay. We will definitely stay here the next time we're in Quebec. And for four nights here, we payed about the same as we did for one night at the marriott the last time we were here! Which meant more money to spend at stores, farms and restaurants!
Excellent little auberge, highly recommend to all!

Hello - as a matter of fact , it's a city bus ( metrobuss 800) that cover the city from east to west . it comes every 15 minutes and it cost $3.25 . The end of the line eastbound is the Montmorency fall ( 10 km from our Inn) .
