Hotel Palace Royal seems to offer a mixed bag of experiences. Reviewers consistently commend its prime location, perfect for exploring Old Quebec City, though they often criticize the additional costs for parking and internet, which seem to detract from the hotel's value. While some guests have appreciated the clean pool and hot tub, the limited breakfast options and room service have received less favorable feedback.
Opinions on service and cleanliness vary widely, with some finding these areas satisfactory and others encountering issues. The lively atmosphere with evening concerts is a hit, though noise and decor have been points of contention.

Stayed in room 606 with a king bed in a corner unit with an amazing sunset view. Bathroom sink faucet was tight to operate but aside from that the room was nice and clean. Decided to stay a 2nd night and was moved to room 726, another corner unit with a queen bed, a view of Chateau Frontenac and balcony to pool view. This room was also equipped with a Murphy bed and small kitchenette sink. FYI, towels are provided at poolside. The hotel is in a perfect location to walk to all Old Quebec City attractions. Many restaurants and pubs close by. There is a decent sized grocery store (L'intermarche St-Jean) less than 2 blocks in opposite direction of amenities on Rue Saint-Jean with roasted chickens if you wanted to stay in for a meal. Lots of beer options including GF Helix which turned out to be a pleasant find. For celiacs like myself there is a fantastic little place about a 10 min walk called Veravin 2.0. Went twice and had onion rings, mini corndogs and poutine without consequences the following day. The cheese curds are also lactose free. Overall the experience in Quebec City was welcoming and pleasant. No language barriers experienced at any businesses or restaurants.

This hotel was a perfect place to stay on a trip with some friends. The rooms were clean, there was a pool and hot top on sight and breakfast was delicious! To add, the staff was extremely kind and hard working bringing towels and extra bed sheets to the room quickly.
Just to note: Bring your own water bottles because the hotel does not provide any in the room. There is a convenience store on the bottom floor however if you are coming late at night, the store hours are not so convenient… I’m not sure if the tap water in the room sinks is drinkable but I still believe you should bring your own.
I recommend Hotel Palace Royal and it was a wonderful hotel!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The bad: Apparently, all corner rooms here are terrible for the wifi signal. The hotel thankfully did not charge us for the wifi, but it was incredibly annoying and inconvenient. The room smelled like chlorine permeating from the hotel pool and it was humid throughout unless you blasted A/C to keep it dry. The entire hotel could use a renovation. Two of our light bulbs were out when we first walked in. The Murphy bed required someone to come up to put the passcodes to open it. Even though there are three elevators, it was often so busy that you were always waiting. The pool is shallow - it's really only good for kids. The garage under the hotel is so cramped, if you have a large SUV/truck, I'm not sure that you'd be able to fit.
The good: The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The store in the basement floor has most essentials, including alcohol. Location, location, location. This hotel is close to pretty much everything you'd want to explore. That's the main reason why we chose this hotel. And you can't beat the value. Across the street, Hilton charges double.
Overall: We had a good experience at this hotel. We all slept pretty well. The kids enjoyed the interesting view of the pool from the balcony. The staff was really friendly and helpful. And the location was perfect. We likely will not be staying here again due to all the annoyances I've mentioned above despite the location and the price. But if you don't mind them, then this hotel might just be perfect for you!

The linoleum Floors are dirty and alot of salt crystals from people's boots .my feet were black and sticky..I have fotos to prove it. They don't do a daily clean ---which is ok With me. BUT.--IN WINTER everyone's boots are muddy and full of salt from the streets . SO ..the floors need to be washed between guests.. bc it was sticky and disgusting.. Also when I looked for an electric outlet behind, and by my bed ..i couldn't find one.and the amount of dust balls was also disgusting.... .so I was skeeved out and spent the time worrying about cleanliness in general. They also had concerts around the pool for several hours every evening. it reverberated up into the rooms...so forget having a rest before dinner. And there's no natural light in the rooms facing the pool/atrium . So it was gloomy and dark- there should be more lights in the room to compensate or the gloomy and dark feeling. Also the free internet is useless..and they charge for high speed connection..--- and most places stopped charging daily rate for the better level internet. 15 years ago !! Shower was good ..

It’s a great location . And nice staff. But .. we had an atrium room facing pool and the evening concerts while enjoyed by many were not enjoyed by us. After an 11 hour ride we were blasted Until 10 pm with terrible rock music . And no noise reducing drapes or such..also bc it was interior the lighting was poor and they need to provide better lighting to compensate for no natural Light. Thankfully the next day was a solo singer on guitar so we could kind avoid hearing it.. BUT the biggest issue was that the Free internet barely worked and everyone kept giving me the numbers to call tech support . Which wasn’t worth my time bc it was obviously nothing to be done. I refuse to pay the day rate for hi speed internet in this day and age !Most places stopped charging for that 15 years ago.. ! The NEXT really big issue is that the uncarpeted floors were filthy and full of grit. While I recognize that it’s a snowy slushy city and there no daily cleaning ; the floors need to be washed between bookings . Also when I looked near the bed for an outlet. I was met either disgusting amount of dust balls .

We have been to this hotel 3 years ago and enjoyed it so decided to return. BIG mistake. First the receptionist was very rude I asked her about the parking she said it was 26$ a day and you can go in and out. So I asked if you just want to leave your car and not go in and out how much. She replied I don’t know (with a grimassent). I took the parking included Went to room was ok but the tub was never cleaned looked dirty and with the previous preson hair I cleaned the tub so I could shower. The elevators did not work so one elevator for the whole hotel HORRIBLE!!!! For the price of this hotel we will never go back

We were there for 5 days, had to ask for towels, etc. housekeeping never cleaned our room, swept the floor, made the beds, changed towels, nothing! They served overpriced buffet on the weekends, can’t order from a menu for breakfast. There was entertainment Friday and Saturday nights, which was nice, 7-9:30pm. Right next to bus station. Would have been a good place but housekeeping was poor.

After reading mixed reviews, I decided to stay at Hotel Palace Royal. It started out poorly when we arrived and there was no place to park my car to unload my luggage. Instead of blocking traffic and waiting for a spot to open, I moved to a location where I wasn’t supposed to park, and an incoming guest rudely informed me that I was in a no-parking area and needed to move. I thanked him for this information and spent thirty seconds unloading my car before I moved my car. Parking under the hotel is a bit hard to find since the garage door opens only when you are very close to it. Do not bring a large vehicle, it won’t fit. Thankfully, I found a space that was slightly larger than most. My Honda Pilot took the entire space. The bellman did a great job, quickly brought our bags to the room, and showed us the room's features. The elevator on the left was still broken. We stayed on a high floor with a balcony overlooking the pool. As expected, there was a smell of chlorine in the room, but we enjoyed using the balcony. It was a nice feature and offered a good space to read and relax. There was very little noise from the pool. Everything in the room worked well, and the bed was comfortable. Knowing the housekeeping procedures, we immediately called for more towels and they were promptly delivered. We made our own bed the first day and expected housekeeping to make the bed after the second night. That didn’t happen, so I went to the front desk, and they thought the bed may have been skipped because there were personal items on it. I assured them that there weren’t any personal items on the bed. At that point, I decided to make the bed for the second day in a row. We tried to have dinner at the on-site restaurant but didn’t have reservations, so we were invited to eat at the bar across the hall, which was fine by me. That was a mistake. I won’t get into the details of the bartender, but another party and I walked out. We had one drink, I’m unsure if the other party ever received their drinks or even had their order taken. Avoid at all costs. The hotel's location is perfect, right at the entrance to the old town. Overall, I’ve stayed at hotels with worse issues, but most of them were much better. If I were in Quebec City again, I’d select a different hotel. If none were avaiable, I'd stay here though.

The location is excellent; the building is impressive; the staff is professional. But there were so many things that distracted us from enjoying our stay at the Palace Royal Hotel. I get the feeling that the hotel management is relying on the location and architecture to bring in customers and is cutting corners on quality.
One example: we enjoyed the pool and the abundance of fresh towels at poolside was a luxury, BUT every time that we went in, we skimmed and removed bits of paper or hairs from the water.
Another example: although the bed linens were clean, our room's floors were not. We had to wipe the dust/dirt off of our feet before getting into bed each night. The room was not cleaned during our 3-night stay.
Another example: the toilet paper is thin enough to be semi-transparent, and it tore easily. The Palace Royal Hotel has the look of a quality hotel, yet it cannot afford the most basic quality toilet paper?
Another example: the exercise room has only a single resistance machine, and it is in a state of disrepair. Several of the grips are broken, and one of the cables has broken insulation. The first time that I used the machine, and I had to set several of the cables into the machine's pulleys myself.

We chose the Interior Garden Balcony Suites and stayed 4 nights. We had to call for maintenance 4 times the first 2 days. One to fix the table light that was broken down not fixed before we checked in. The 2nd time was to fix the skipped circuit breakers when we used the microwave and kettle at the same time. The 3rd and 4th time was to fix the heater as the room was very cold and the temperature couldn't be adjusted. The engineer on the 4th visit discovered the valve in the unit was closed. Oh my gosh!! Don't the hotel check the room thoroughly before checking in the guests. On the housekeeping, we could understand and understand due to staff shortage, daily housekeeping is not amenable. However, the basic of clearing the garbage should be done at least on the 2nd day but we had t remind the front desk.
The only saving grace is the excellent location. Very near to Old Town. And Metrobus bus#800 bus stop to Montmorency Falls is right in front of hotel. It is also 15 minutes walk (if you know the shortcut) to supermarket Metro Plus.
Tip - We requested complimentary 3-day RTC bus pass from the hotel.
