Attended the bar for a drink before dinner and were welcomed rudely by a bar tender who was outside( outside smoking) upon arrival. While my spouse was having a beer, the bar tender was also pushy for me to place my drink order and it felt like he wanted the tip for the wine bottle I wanted to order only once in the restaurant. Service at the restaurant was very ordinary. Ive been there before and quality have dropped. Room was dusty and not so clean. I must say that Front desk service was impeccable.
Overall a decent place but there were many small issues and disappointments, and for me, that's not good enough for $220 per night. Still, it's very well located and interesting concept with the balconies facing the garden and pool at the center.
Fantastic location! Easy walk to the heart of Old Quebec City. Rooms get cleaned ONLY after a three night stay. Bar across from the Beffroi steak house in the hotel has a bunch of quirky rules that went unexplained. When we entered and asked if we could order food the bartender said he’d have to call the restaurant manager. And then he said, “are there only three of you?”We responded, “yes.” My daughter ordered a salad without olives and the bar tender who took the food order said he’d have to call the manager to get the request for no olives approved. Shortly after the food order was placed, another family member joined us. The bartender loudly exclaimed, “you said you had only three people.” My only assumption for his behavior is that he was providing bar service for the Beffroi steak house and that was the priority as set by hotel management. And if indeed that’s the case CLOSE the bar to guests and just serve the restaurant patrons. We felt unwelcome.…
Located within a block of all the local shops, eateries, and ice skating. Live entertainment from our garden view balcony made our 4 night stay great. The steakhouse never disappoints us. Having a bar and convenience store on site is an added plus. Great coffee shop right across the street. We will definitely return next year for our third visit!!!
Good location right near downtown. Lots of restaurants nearby (I’ll get to that in a second). Convenience store on premises with a lot of travel basics and enough snacks and drinks to keep everyone happy. Parking was a little…odd and cramped. Dingy and deep underground garage with no ventilation but it’s there. It’s also very expensive. It’s an older hotel and it shows. Peeling wall paper and knicks and dents here and there. But our room was nice and clean and there is an indoor pool so we were happy. But the restaurant on premises? The host cost this review a star. I’d love to use some words here but won’t because they won’t post this. But absolutely the rudest human I’ve met in a long time and I live outside DC. When we checked in we were told the restaurant was open and no reservation needed. I tried to make a reservation more to see if they had availability more than anything but the website didn’t work. So we walked down. Totally empty so that’s good for us. Nope. Guy claimed we needed a reservation. We explained what happened and he didn’t care. We mentioned the place was empty and he kind of shrugged. Then he stopped acknowledging us and started talking to someone else from the staff. So we kindly requested he offer some options in the area or just tell us where we could go to find something and he literally refused to tell us anything. Straight up said he was not going to tell us anything about where to go or where to eat. Maybe I’m not conveying this guys attitude and I’m probably not. But if I didn’t already pay for the room we would have left. Guy was unreal. Thankfully the front desk clerk was cool and basically told us the place was surrounded by restaurants and offered some places he likes. All I wanted. Sorry to the helpful ones but I wouldn’t stay here again.…
Good point - location. That’s it really. It took an hour to check in. Antiquated systems, and not having the correct information. We had purchased breakfast vouchers, but they only issued us with some of them even though we had written confirmation. There was no mention that you had to book breakfast, so we consequently missed the first days paid breakfast as we had a trip booked and they couldn’t seat us until 9.30am The rooms were old and dated like the rest of the hotel, it’s in major need of a make over. Room service? There was none. We stayed four nights, and had to request room service as it’s only given every 3 nights, and when it eventually happened, you could hardly tell, nothing was replenished. I did not used the pool and wouldn’t have, I thought it was very odd having people gawping at you from their balconies The smell of chlorine hits you as you enter the hotel. Don’t stay here, I’m sure there are better in Quebec…
This hotel is absolutely beautiful just poorly ran, it’s a shame, ridiculously loud, bad karaoke on Xmas day and ice cold pool. The hot tub is dirty, because people only going to the hot tub because the pool is impossible to get in. The structure of this hotel is beautiful. Whoever designed it was brilliant! A stay here should cost $50 a night more, however, bad loud music venues, ice cold swimming pool, and overall poor room service and extras keep it on the lower end. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable and clean. I wish I like this place more.
Due to the snow storm of December 23, 2022 the advisory was not to travel due to the hazardous conditions. We called the hotel after we checked the road conditions and try to changed our dates to few days later. We were rejected because we did not booked directly with the hotel, they will change the dates otherwise (means they had rooms available). Were told that since we booked with Bookin.com we must pay if we do not show up since we did not canceled in time on as per policy. Looks like the management prefer empty rooms in the hotel, they are just working there. My family was so looking forward for this trip but we did not want to risk our lives on the roads. Our experience matches the Christmas tradition in the accommodations business, and it did not changed much since Christ was born.…
This hotel is very cozy, nice, clean and just a special place to stay in Québec. The location is perfect too and all the stuff had been very friendly and helpful. Thanks for everything. i deeply can recommand this place to stay.
This is the second time we've stayed at Hotel Palace Royal in Quebec City which says something about how much we like this hotel. It is well situated about 150 meters from the wall of the Old City to the northeast and about 120 meters from a neighborhood with lots of handy shops (grocery stores, pharmacies, coffee shops, etc.) to the southwest. It is ideally located to walk to many of the attractions in the area. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The property does charge for parking, but most city hotels do, so just be sure to figure that into your cost when booking. The room came with a small refrigerator which is very helpful. We also had a smooth experience checking in and out. For a hotel in Quebec City that is centrally located, you can't beat the Hotel Palace Royal. We plan to stay here again on our next visit.…
