My tween daughter and I stayed at Hotel Marineau Shawinigan for two nights in February. We’d selected the property from a number of budget options in the region (we were there primarily for Domaine Enchanteur, so we considered a number of cities for lodging), and we found that Hotel Marineau was a wonderful value.

It’s certainly not a luxury property, but it’s been extremely well renovated. There were a few subtle spots (e.g., pitted edges of doors) that gave a clue regarding what disrepair the place must have once been in, making the modern, tasteful renovations that much more impressive. Our room was spacious and extremely clean. There was a refrigerator, microwave, and table with chairs…perfect for eating in the room given that there weren’t a lot of options open for dining later in the evenings. The room’s heating system worked well, and there was lots of hot water and great water pressure in the shower. Beds and pillows were reasonably comfortable – certainly more so than is typical of budget hotels. And staff were bilingual and very friendly.

I might suggest ear plugs for those who are light sleepers. We were in the hotel portion of the property (there are also motel-style rooms on the lower level), and we could hear a fair amount of noise from the hallway. There seemed to be some kind of small business gathering taking place at the hotel; the attendees were very respectful, but they had early morning starts and would sometimes quietly chat outside one another’s doorways at night. In addition, temper expectations for breakfast. There were a variety of bread items along with some cereal and yogurt, but the limited fruit available was very much past its prime.

Overall, I would gladly stay at Hotel Marineau again in the future. It certainly exceeded our expectations for the price, and we loved how clean and cozy it was.

The hotel is nicely located just a short drive to the national park's east gate. There is a free breakfast service, but it's just the continental breakfast. No meats, eggs, whatsoever, just bread.

We were assigned to a motel-style room that opens to the exterior. Little did we know that the door on the other end is the actual front door of our room. So that's a nice surprise, we got two entrances to our room.

The TV remote was extremely difficult to work with. We never even got to turn the TV on and off by remote. We had to manually press it.

The lighting in the washroom is amazing though. You can dim the lights in the shower and by the beds. They also have mini-lamps beside the beds so that's a nice feature.

Our coffee maker did not work though. It just boiled the water and did not successfully brewed our coffee, so that's sad.

We picked this hotel as it is close to a local dive site at lac des Piles. The hotel has surely been recently renovated. The rooms are large and clean. There was no bathtub, but a large shower. You can park in front of your room for the level floor. They offer breakfast, but it is basic without eggs, etc. The staff is bilingual.

for a 3-star rating, fine. The staff is very welcoming, and attentive.
The room was clean, convenient with what it takes for our stay. We spent 3 nights with 4 (2 adults and 2 children).
There is a breakfast, with what it takes.
Shawinigan, superb area, we toured the mauricie park from there. Very practical

Tastefully renovated and very clean. Excellent value.
Fast reservation, check-in and check-out.
The only downside is that it seems to accept pets but there didn't seem to be any during our stay so it didn't bother us.

Very ordinary hotel despite a higher than average price for this type of accommodation. We were there for a hockey tournament in the region. Renovated rooms on the first floor and comfortable beds. And here my positive comments end.

Chaotic check-in on arrival with only one employee at reception when the team arrived. The check-in terminal was not working. The cleanliness of the room left something to be desired. Dust in the corners, sand on the floor, hair in the bathroom... The beds had no sheets, only the duvet. I had to go get some from a place at the end of the evening (because no one was there to answer me!) and make the beds myself. Ditto for the lack of towels (there were 3 of us) and the hair dryer which did not work. No room cleaning service during our stay (3 days/2 nights). The mini bathroom trash can (and only trash can in the room) was overflowing. No ventilation in the room. We had to leave the door open at -10 degrees to ventilate a little.

Breakfast is included and consists of apples, bread, cereal and bagels. Terrible coffee and fountain juice.

In short, I've seen better elsewhere for much less money.

The room and bathroom were clean and modern. Breakfast is basic (industrial pastries), but has the merit of being included. We took a room for 4 with 2 double beds. The “large beds” are not very large, 140cm, but this is the case in the majority of hotels we visited in Quebec unfortunately.

Located close to main roads, the hotel is quiet. The rooms are spacious, clean. The bedding is comfortable. The welcome is pleasant. Breakfast is included with the room (rare in Quebec) and it is correct, the essentials are present.

Heartwarming welcome.
Good location for going to the Mauricie park but right next to a highway exit so very noisy. The air conditioning blows directly on the bed, you have to open the window and it's not great...
And what's more, there's not much to eat in the immediate surroundings apart from McDonald's.

Cleanliness clearly neglected: full of dust, hair, earplugs and elastic bands from the previous occupants... the same in the breakfast room: the cutlery tray is horribly dirty, it doesn't make you want to have breakfast there!

The breakfast is very brief: cheddar, donut and pancake in blister packs and very low quality.

FYI: cleaning is only done during your check-out so it could still be done better.
