My husband and I have stayed here twice in the last two years; once on our wedding night and again for our first year anniversary. It is a beautiful hotel with extremely professional and knowledgeable staff. Both nights we rented a one bedroom suite and the first stay we upgraded to their “La Vie en Rose” Package. Both stays we enjoyed their complimentary breakfast in the Odessa Room.

The suite was immaculately clean and a good size. We rented a river view room and were both very appreciative of the large windows in both rooms so that we could enjoy the view. The first night we stayed in September and we’re able to enjoy the view the entire stay but in March we had to close the curtains for most of the morning before check out in order to watch the television simply due to the positioning of the sun.

The highlight of the suite is the bed. Our suite had a king sized bed and it was really comfortable. The sheets on the bed are amazing quality and feel super luxurious. You can purchase a set at the front desk and I absolutely would have if they didn’t only come in white. Their robes are also very comfortable.

Check in went smoothly both visits and the front desk staff very quickly went above and beyond to welcome us and make the process as easy as possible. Since we only stayed one night each time, we did not have a chance to experience the housekeeping day-to-day but as stated above the cleanliness was up to parr. Both of our visits were during the COVID-19 pandemic and the hotel was in full compliance to the provincial guidelines in effect at those times.

The complimentary breakfast was amazing. We had the option to either be served and eat in the Odessa Room itself or to take our breakfast back to our suite. We chose to do the later and both visits that was the only time we weren’t absolutely thrilled with the experience. I felt that when we requested to take our breakfast to our room, we were pushed to stay in the Odessa Room instead and had to insist on our decision to eat in our suite.

The breakfast menu is limited but has a good variety for what is available and was slightly different each visit. The food was very delicious and was one of the things I was looking forward to the most on our second visit.

The only negative opinion I have is simply that we felt that the extra cost for the “La Vie en Rose” package wasn’t worth it. The second stay we just brought our own cupcakes, chocolates and wine and it cost us less plus we didn’t like the wine the hotel provided.

They are rated number one in Saskatoon and they deserve it!!! Beautiful views of the river, rooms and hotel is spotless, the breakfast crew are very friendly and make a delicious breakfast. Front end staff are personable and professional. I stayed for a week and can only rave about my experience. I will be telling everyone about this gem.

We have visited The James often as it's our favorite hotel. We try to get there at least twice a year for a little get away. The staff makes you feel welcomed and at peace, the moment you walk in the door! The lobby bartenders and servers will make you anything you can dream up although their menu is amazing! The free, hot served breakfasts have never disappointed us and are the best breakfast at a hotel that we've ever tasted. But let's talk about the rooms. The river view rooms are uncomparable! In the summer we love to order a bottle of wine and sit outside. In the winter we enjoy the view but from on the beautiful sectional. The beds... man I want that bed! It's like laying down on clouds. The robes they provide are so lovely that this past weekend we got the package that included 2 robes for us to take home! The evening sweet snack that is brought to your room is always a treat we look forward to. This hotel exudes class and comfort. My only complaint (it's small but notable) is the horrible toilet paper! The toilet paper at the nearest gas station is nicer. The toiletries they provide are beautiful; I'm not sure why they cheap out on this horrible one ply? toilet paper lol. We will absolutely be back as soon as we can (but we will unfortunately, bring our own toilet paper haha)

I spent two nights at the James hotel and would definitely recommend it. Rooms were large, check in was fast. A wonderful hot breakfast was included and the days I was there the chef was making eggs benny that were excellent. I found the coffee bitter but that is only personal preference. Staff was really helpful and friendly. Will definitely stay here again.

Let’s Start with positives first, Service was outstanding! We met Gurpreet at check in time and Kim ( I think) on Sunday Morning both agents were super friendly explained everything politely and clearly. They even opened the front doors for us which is rarely done now a days. Breakfast staff, Chef and Server ( sorry didn’t get their names) also friendly. Room was top class, clean and well maintained.
Now few ares where they need improvement in my view: Pillows on the bed have seen good days and must be changed by now.
Elevator had broken tiles ( see picture) and hallway 5th floor carpet was visibly dirty (see picture) lobby and hallway was small and felt cramped ( I know nothing can be done to this point) view from my room was not worth close to $200 a night. All I see AC ducts. Rooms with such view should be priced accordingly. Since I was staying for one night only it didn’t bother me a lot.
This was my first time in this property. Online pictures looks grand but property is anything but grand. Breakfast was fine but it feels like having a breakfast in comfort inn or Holiday Inn where you can get room half of the price at this property.
Thank you for outstanding customer service.

It's impossible for one to write a positive review for a hotel that actually refuses to accommodate guests with a prepaid booking and then refuse to provide a means of making a formal complaint.

Fully prepaid and non refundable booking made for staff travelling trans Canada. They arrive tired and needing a break. Policy dictates you cannot check in with a debit card or cash (it's nowhere on the mobile web site, but yes you get informed that after you make the booking). Offered a credit card authorisation. Declined as it needs 24 hours' notice, even though it's a 4 night booking. Ok, offered a credit card from a contact I have in town. Declined as not the name on the booking.

My staff reported that the front desk team were rude towards them. Front desk team refused to call the manager.

I rang and spoke with Kristen, the manager, after being condescended to by the front desk. She was less than helpful, even declining to put any of this in writing so I could claim a refund. When I asked for the hotel's formal complaint process, I was told to email the front desk. When I pointed out that it is not appropriate to send a complaint to the person being complained about, she hung up.

My overall impression is that the staff did not want to continue with a booking (prepaid and top of the range room) who were dishevelled because they had driven a long distance. There is no place for such behaviour in any hotel, let alone one that claims to be one of the best in Canada.

We had to come to Saskatoon for an appointment during high Covid times so the only place we felt comfortable staying was the James. We previously stayed as a couple for a romantic getaway but this time we came with our one year old. We were a little nervous because this isn’t a hotel that is geared towards children and we didn’t want to put a damper on any other guests “kid free” trip, but the staff went above and beyond (as per usual) to make us feel welcome even with a child. Even something as simple as the breakfast chef blowing up a glove as a balloon and cutting the crust off my daughters toast is the type of service you can expect at the James.

A little difficult to locate (the sign is set back from the road). Backed by another hotel and in front of a vast park along the river. We had a Studio Suite extended with fully equipped kitchen except for a dining table. It's beautiful, tastefully furnished. We were even able to benefit from free bicycles to use on the bike path along the river. Very attentive staff and always smiling. Free parking. Breakfast partially served at the table respecting the sanitary rules. Juice, coffee and eggs cooked on request. Buffet for the rest.

This hotel is excellent. From the very helpful staff to the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in. The room was spacious with wonderful river views. The hotel is spotlessly clean.
And to top it off it comes with a complimentary breakfast which was delicious. Highly recommend

We had our wedding and reception in The James’ Penthouse. Everything was amazing. The penthouse suite is spacious and very well appointed. The views of the South Saskatchewan River are breathtaking. We had a served buffet meal and it was awesome. Late lunch was hot appetizers. All of the food was served with care and attention and all was top notch. Kevin and his team took care of our every need and were super to work with. Jodi, our bartender, was so much fun and made sure all of our guests were looked after. I can’t say enough good about The James and the staff. The entire evening was magical!

What does turn down service consist of? And is it available in all the suites?

I think it is always available... they turn down the bed and bring nice little desserts. They also bring blankets for sitting in the balcony. My last stay nobody came though which was disappointing even though I specifically requested it.
