Detailed Reviews
I stayed at Midnight Sun Inn's independent suits at 3 different locations in downtown Whitehorse for a period of two months. This place is located in the central part of Whitehorse downtown, so everything is within walking distance! All suits that I stayed at were very clean, well stocked with necessities and functioned very well. The best part was that the management headed by Mr. Anson Zhen looks after and maintains their various properties personally. Mr. Zhen considers customers, whom her refers to as guests, as his God and he is always thankful to them for staying at his properties!,Mr. Zhen is available on phone almost 24X7 and picks up all calls himself. He always tries to accommodate his customers' needs to his level best. Not only he helps the guests while they stay with him but is also helpful to guests if they need any personal assistance such as moving the guest's heavy baggage or if a guest's need around the city or what care to take in the extreme winter weather conditions in Yukon. I have extensively travelled internationally and have stayed at the best of hotels in large cities and exotic tourist places. I would rate Mr. Anson Zhen and his Midnight Sun Inn as one of the best and friendliest places that I have stayed at. Considering they operate in remote north Canada, where it is not easy for them to get the best equipment and staff easily, they are doing a marvelous job to provide such good accommodation and personalized services at the most economical rates. I would recommend Mr. Anson Zhen and his Midnight Sun Inn to all travelers, be it for business or vacation! I wish Mr. Anson Zhen the very best in his hospitality ventures and would personally stay at his facilities again and every time when I visit Whitehorse!

This is like a Airbnb, it a house they converted to 10-12 rooms. Kitchen items needs to be replaced since too many guest use it and gets scratched up like non stick pans. We stayed basement next to kitchen which use to be a living room converted to a room. It’s shared washroom which is ok, we never had conflict of someone being there. Plus they have washroom upstairs too. Only thing is if you have a messy guest that doesn’t how to use a shower curtain than the whole floor gets wet. Bfast was simple. Items bought from grocery and you cook yourself. Eggs, milk cereal . Fruit n bread with jam. You can buy own food and put in ref. Coffee machine has hard water scales on it so didn’t want to use it. Overall the bed was good, you get soap n shampoo and towels.

The description provided by the owner of the "inn" is very enthusiastic ha ha. What they call an inn seems to be 2 or more townhouses close to downtown Whitehorse. We received a "free upgrade" to a newer townhouse that had 4 guest rooms which shared a common kitchen and living area. The townhouse was pretty new and very clean. The walls between rooms were a bit thin and you could hear voices through the wall. It was hot in the room even with the window open. Towels and ensuite bathroom were good. We stayed one night but where we were seemed newer and nicer than original "inn" where you check in. It would be great if you wanted to make your own meals, do laundry, all within walking distance of downtown. The townhouse we were in was in a residential area, but again close to downtown.
I can't comment on the location closer to downtown as we didn't stay there. But it seemed to be the same setup... shared kitchen with individual rooms in a house/townhouse. I'm glad we were given a room in the newer location. It was newer, nicer, and a more modern feel to it.

This place is weird in a creepy kind of way. Nobody is allowed to check in before 4:00pm, you have to line up outside the front door and then go upstairs to the owners office one at a time. Wonder what happens if it's pouring with rain? His office (kitchen table) is in chaos with hundreds of visa bills everywhere. No nice welcome,he's all business, just wants to take your money including a mysterious $200 charge for "incidentals". The "incedentals" are fines. Inside the room a long list of fines was posted in BRIGHT RED and BLACK BOLD print! $30 if you lose the $2 key. $30 if you exceed 3GB download on the "free internet", $30 if you leave a stain on a towel! etc. etc.
The room was large and fairly well appointed but extremely hot and stuffy with poor ventilation. Even worse, the matress had a plastic matress protector installed under the sheet so you are in for a hot and sweaty night sleeping on plastic. Not comfortable at all.
The rooms have no sound proofing. Two guests checked in to the room next door at 2:00am but did not go to bed, spending the next 4 hours chatting loudly. We got no sleep that night.
This place is one of the worst places I have ever stayed in. We were happy to leave. Definitely not recommended. Read all the other negative reviews. Avoid this one and go elsewhere.

+1
Terrible experience! The suite was ready late from the agreed booking time. When we checked in we were getting settled and someone walked into the suite from a locked to us door in the hallway. When I asked her who she was and what she was doing she did not answer, just closed the door while I said I am not comfortable with this. We looked at moving but were unable to find any available accommodations for a family our size on short notice. The host explained that it was the laundry room and the individual was trying to access a shortcut out of the laundry room to the house.
The suite was dirty with stains on the beds, ceiling and carpets, with a musty smell. The suite was in poor repair with a list of posted rules to follow. There were belongings under the bed and in the drawers from previous guests.
Soon we realized the rest of the house was set up as a hostel type rental situation with many people coming and going. I was unable to sleep, knowing that anyone could access our suite from the laundry room with our children sleeping there. Our suite was an after thought with a flimsy added door that had a 6” gap from the floor allowing us to hear every coming and going.
We chose to cancel our last night, giving four days notice. The cancellation policy on the booking ap we used listed a partial refund. The host refused and told us to take it up with the ap.
This accommodation charged premium rates for a horrible experience. Stay anywhere but here.

I prepaid for 7 nights. After 2 nights, my traveling companion got news her sister died. We tried to check out, but manager said we had to give 48 hours notice, or he wouldn't even give us a refund for the last 3 days. Said it was stated on the website. After staying the extra 2 nights, we checked out. Manager was unable to show us the 48 hour notice policy on the website. Never before have I stayed in a hotel where supposedly you have to give 48 hours notice to vacate. I felt like we were forced to stay 2 extra nights against our will. A terrible experience!
Advertised as a B&B, but no breakfast. No maid service. Laundry coin operated. Totally dissatisfied! Would never recommend this place. It is also very expensive for the standard kind of room we had.

Do not rent from this host. He is dishonest. He falsely claimed that we trashed the property, partied late and smoked and then staged photos to show the "damage" in order to charge us more money. If you do rent from him, take pictures when you leave to protect yourself. The kitchen was poorly equipped with scratched Teflon pans, stains in the refrigerator, the vent did not work and the basement window was missing a handle and bolted shut. The front door was partially drywalled and had a large gap under it. It has no living room space, just a couch facing locked doors next to a small kitchen table. More like a run down youth hostel with hotel prices with a dishonest host.

I spent one night in the Victorian room, which had a modern, private bathroom en suite. It was pleasantly decorated, very spacious, and spotlessly clean, as were the common areas of shared kitchen and dining room. The bedding was extremely comfortable and good quality. Definitely way more upscale than you would think for the reasonable rate they charge. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The only thing, if you have trouble with stairs or have heavy luggage, there is no elevator. Would love to come back for a longer stay.

This facility has a very good location-short walk to many restaurants and shops in Whitehorse. Since there is no reception, you can find a phone number of the owner on front door. Guy is responsive. I have small, but clean room.

Midnight Sun is better than most of the local hotels but nothing to get excited about. Owners are friendly and it is very clean. Most of downtown is very walkable from here. Fairly standard mid range hotel type of room.
