The Northern Lights Resort & Spa earns rave reviews for its amalgamation of cozy accommodations and a plethora of activities, complemented by a top-notch spa experience. Nestled in an inviting atmosphere, the resort boasts immaculately clean and comfortable rooms, often highlighted for their practical Aurora alarm feature.
While the services receive accolades for the staff's warmth and personalized attention, some travelers note the pricing can be steep in peak seasons, despite the added value of meal inclusions and recommended packages.

Detailed Reviews
We had a wonderful experience at Northern Lights Resort and Spa. Wolfgang and Renate are such hospitable people and made us feel very welcome. The meals prepared by Renate were delicious. We felt so treated. The glass cabins in which we stayed were so well appointed and had wonderful views - right in nature - and everything was so comfortable and the unit was spotless. We loved the Northern Lights! The evening guide, Csika, was so knowledgable about the Northern Lights and was able to help with our camera settings too. Our scheduled day trips were excellent.
We can highly recommend staying here.

My family of four including 2 teenaged sons had the best combination of adventure and relaxation. We typically take DYI vacations so it was a relief knowing that all our transportation needs, 3 meals a day and arctic gear were included. We also added an extra excursion and laundry service to our stay (Renate even let me borrow her own snow pants one day so I could be more comfortable). We chose ‘winter at its best’ for 4 nights. If you want to book the airfare and then not worry about a thing after that, this is the vacation for you.

We booked three nights at the Northern Lights Resort and Spa since my son had a 4 day long weekend due to teacher conferences. I have to say from my first contacts with Wolfgang and Renate from booking our stay, everything was perfect and they are wonderful hosts at their resort. The chalet we stayed in was very practical and cozy with a warming stove and they organized everything from special winter clothes to some of the tours we did. The chance to see nature at its finest and relax was priceless. My son loved the visit to the Nature Reserve to see the animals and we enjoyed a 1/2 day in Whitehorse to visit the MacBride Museum and enjoy lunch.
I also want to compliment Wolfgang and Renate for the excellent service and great European cuisine. I lived for 21 years in Europe and the food brought back good memories of food I enjoyed so much. Some of the memorable dishes included polenta, beef with mushrooms, fish cakes from local fish and beautiful desserts to finish. The chance to engage with all the guests for a drink and the evening meal was a highlight of the day.

Our stay at Northern Lights resort was certainly one of the highlights of our recent week in the Yukon. Located about 20 km from Whitehorse on a beautiful large property, it was convenient to town but still felt close to nature. The resort has been built entirely by the owners over the past decade and so everything is quite new and has a very nice rustic European style. With only 7 individual guest cabins, we got to meet some fellow travelers but still had lots of privacy. We stayed in a traditional cabin two nights and one of the newer glass chalets for three nights and found both to be very comfortable - lots of space, nice beds, good showers and well equipped with private decks, kitchenette and gas fireplace. On-site amenities such as the hot tub and spa allowed for a bit of pampering after long days of hiking. And having the option of being woken up by the onsite guide if the northern lights were on display was a great bonus and paid off on our first night. The daily breakfast was fairly simple but very tasty and enough variety that we were always satisfied. We opted for the three course dinner on two nights and really enjoyed it and thought it very reasonable value. However, the real highlight was our interaction with the owners Renate and Wolfgang who were always pleasant, helpful and accommodating. We are already planning on a return visit.

The area is beautiful. The staff is wonderful. Just a few things to know before you book your cabin...had we known we would have booked differently....
If you want to be able to view the northern lights without leaving your cabin, you need to book a glass chalet. We simply booked a chalet after reading on the website all rooms face the aurora viewing area. Not so. Our cabin was positioned behind a new build which obstructed the view. Our friends who booked the same room, same time, same everything, had a wonderful room without an unobstructed view. So book GLASS CHALET!!
Food: they will accomodate allergies, other than that, no choices. Not even salad dressing on the side, toppings on hand made pizza.... The dinner menu is not posted until later in the day so there is never time to inform the owners of a food preference. Finally, on the last night I simply said no to many items. I ended up with potatoes and broccoli and of course a wonderful desert! Be sure to ask for a soda at lunch, water is the only beverage served. The meal thing was odd to me, even for 'family style'.
These issues would not prevent me from staying, I would now know how to make the experience a better one for me.
The cabin was very clean!

Dear Tammy & Stefan, thank you very much for writing your review and your comments. We are happy that the overall experience for you was a positive one and that you liked your stay here at the Resort. We thank you also for the feedback about the food and the Chalets and for the opportunity to answer them: All our Chalets face north and to the viewing site but the one your were in is set back and does not have the whole vista of the horizon. Your vacation was booked by your travel agent and they asked for 2 Alpine Chalets, not for Aurora Glass Chalets. Your friends did not have one of the Aurora Glass Chalets, they stayed in our Alpine Chalet Fireweed what is a Log Cabin but has larger windows and is not one of the new Glass Chalets. Always on arrival we ask all our guests about any food restrictions or dietary needs for their stay to make sure we can accommodate this. My apologies if this was not correct communicated to you. All meals come with water as we believe is standard in all restaurants but soda or other alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages are certainly available for purchase. We would love to welcome you back for another visit and hope to improve your experience, then. All the Best, Renate, Wolfgang and Team

This is a great location, away from the Whitehorse city lights, from which to see the northern lights (if they are out and the clouds are not!). If you stayed in the city, you would probably have to book separate excursions each night in hopes of seeing the lights; if you stay here you can just wander outside at any point, or go inside to warm up. Airport pick-up and drop-off was smooth, and they even let us ride in to town with others going to the airport one day to go cross-country skiing. The log cabin was spacious, warm and comfortable; request the "Fireweed" one as it has large picture windows looking east and north, so you can watch for the lights from inside. The property is large enough to provide a good walk or snowshoe (provided) hike as a daytime activity. Someone on staff built a fire every night at 10 pm so we could keep warm outside while watching for the lights. Renting the warm clothing is definitely a good idea for those of us from the south! Overall, highly recommended.

Renate and Wolfgang run an amazing facility. It may be only about 20 minutes from downtown Whitehorse but feels like a world away. They have a beautiful property with amazing little studio cabins. The hospitality was exceptional and they were always willing to offer suggestions and assistance. Food provided (breakfast and dinner with lunch optional for a fee) was quite delicious and a good size portion. Spa options were nice for a more relaxing afternoon with the ability to use the jacuzzi tub. Just outside the cabin doors there is a guide who comes to take pictures from about 10pm-2am each night. She took some excellent photos during our stay. Bonus is that if you get cold waiting for the clouds to disappear you can go to your cabin and she will let you know if the northern lights make an appearance. Also a cute teepee with a furnace is available to stay warm. Thanks to Renate and Wolfgang for an awesome stay. We hope to return one day!

My wife and I recently had the best experience staying at the Northern Lights Resort and Spa with hosts Renate and Wolfgang and their staff. Not only did we witness a great showing of the northern lights and get a great photo by Stefan with us in the foreground, we truly had a wonderful time in this pristine paradise. We stayed in one of the well appointed heated cabins, which is only a short walk to the main nighttime viewing area. At night, there is a fire in a “tepee” and hot chocolate to warm you up as you look at the night sky. Dinner and breakfast is always a fun affair, as guests meet over a cocktail or glass of wine before sitting down to a great meal prepared by Renate and her team. Super friendly and always a few laughs when Wolfgang comes to give an overview of the coming days events. These are wonderful people who go out of their way to make you happy and feel welcome at their great resort. Do some activities (Wolfgang can set this up for you) and enjoy a relaxing massage or treatment with the Spa. Fantastic!

Staying at Renate & Wolfgang's property in the Whitehorse should be at the top of your list when visiting the Yukon. We were lucky to get a last minute booking with the Northern Lights Resort & Spa after our Air Bnb was cancelled a week before our trip. The property is an easy drive from downtown Whitehorse. We stayed in one of the Aurora Glass Chalets, which are extremely well built, clean and have incredible views of the surrounding property and the night sky. We were lucky to get a clear sky on one of our nights which meant we ended up with great photos of us under the Milky Way and the Northern Lights taken by Chika (photographer/guide who was there from 10pm - 2am). Chika even woke us up when the Northern Lights were their brightest so we didn't miss it! We were emailed the photos on the day we left so have great mementos. We loved the continental European breakfasts each morning and the dinner we booked. Renate accommodated our vegetarian requests, which was appreciated. Both Renate & Wolfgang are such lovely and exceptional hosts. Thank you again for having us - hopefully we will be able to visit again one day! Juliet & Jacob

This is a wonderful destination to see the aurora boreal and enjoy Yukon activities at a well run, clean and comfortable location. The stays are a minimum of 3 nights in immaculate log cabins or glass front chalets. Breakfast and dinner are included and served family style. We enjoyed the food and the casual friendliness in the dining room. At 10 pm a bonfire was lit so we could all wait to see if the aurora would light the sky. Hot chocolate and s’mores were included. We also took in some daytime excursions like a tour of the southern lakes and dog sledding.
The staff went out of their way to assist with photography and whatever was needed. Toni even booked our flights and picked us up at the airport.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your inquiry and your interest in staying at the Resort but Yukon borders are closed for all leisure travels this winter due to the pandemic. We can take bookings only for next years Aurora season between September 2021 and April 2022 at the moment.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any other information needed.
Kind Regards,
Wolfgang
Hello Brad, thank you for your message but the Resort will not open for the summer season this year.
Usually the fall month September/October and the late winter month January to early April are the better times to come but as long as we have a mainly clear sky, the Aurora can be seen between mid August to mid April. Many guests try to avoid a full moon but a strong Northern Lights is beautiful even during a full moon phase.
Have to check with the resort.
