We stayed for a surprise 40th birthday weekend. The place is very large, and easily accommodated the 28 of us. The largest bedroom became home for 8 kids and they loved it. It is definately a house for a large group, but everything was very clean, and everything worked.... The garden was great for the kids, just enough to keep...

That's super, thank you for your kind words. You were a great group, and it was a pleasure to take your booking. Behind the scenes, quite a few people (house-keeper, maintenance man, cleaners, and dare I include myself ..) put a lot into making the guest experience pleasant. How nice it is to get a pat on the back, a...

We were on a 30th birthday celebration with friends some of which we hadn't seen for several years. Our weekend surpassed all our expectations, Cholwell Hall is definitely a great place to have a celebration if you are a large group. From the moment we drove up the drive to the front door the mood was lifted; brilliant views, superb...

After much searching and hunting for a house to accommodate 22 guys and girls for a celebratory 30th birthday weekend away, we eventually came across Cholwell Hall. Compared to so many other venues we found out there, CH is an extremely cost-effective option. After three days and two nights at CH, not one of our group had a bad word...

Cholwell Hall is most definitely NOT "luxury" as described on their website. My husband and I had to make our apologies to our host and leave Cholwell Hall.. Even out of politeness to our host - we could not stay. The whole party of friends and family were upset and shocked at the state of this property. . Cholwell Hall...

All those of us who work at Cholwell Hall have been astonished and dismayed to read this report. Firstly, the views expressed by the (anoymous -of course) writer are very misleading and unfair, but it is also beyond our comprehension where all the passion and anger has come from. Thankfully, the report is at odds with other reviews. The majority...

We booked this venue for a weekend break/family reunion in July 2013. We live in NZ and had to do everything over the internet, which was made easy with good correspondence by emails. Venue was closer to the road than I imagined but the place easily accommodated 28 of us. The weather was great so we spent most of the...

We have just returned from October half term holiday here. There were 8 adults and 9 children under 5 years and we all had a brilliant time. House was huge and the children loved the freedom. Everything was clean and we had lovely, comfy beds. It all really exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend.

Booked this place in June 2012 for a 20 person stag party and had a great time. The Hall is a little worn in places but it still looks fantastic and was everything it said it would be on the website. One of the only places in the Bristol area that would accept stag parties for 20+ people, booking was...

We were a large group staying in the house in the summer. The booking process was very good, any questions were answered prompty and we were met on arrival and shown round. The house is huge and very quirky, some bedrooms are very big, others quite small, so they took a bit of sharing out. The kids loved the space,...

We were two couples looking for a Country House Hotel type accommodation for 4 days touring West Country. We book CH in February and paid our 75% the remainder in cash on arrival. We were alone in the big old rectory which was nice. Plenty and I mean plenty of room to get lost! We were just fine but a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cholwell Hall is a fine country house a few miles from Bath. We specialise in large groups (15 - 24, max 29) for short breaks, eg family gatherings, hen parties, stag parties, and also corporate team building. Most groups book a weekend, but midweeks work out cheaper if you have that option. There are 10 bedrooms, some of them massive with several beds. There are 6 bathrooms. On the ground floor a large stately dining room can seat up to 30, and there is a large lounge with central fireplace that also has games equipment at one end. There is also a large well equipped kitchen with wood-burning stove. The bookings are self-catering, but you are welcome to use our list which has of caterers, entertainers, and activity ideas. The Hall is set in private landscaped grounds of 1.5 acres, with own swimming pool (summer months). ... more   less
