We went only to the restaurant, since the hotel was fully booked.
The way they received, waited and talked to us and the other guests was really over the top, all smile, not one lift of voice, but not one single question of interest either. After a while it started to annoy us. Did we end up in a shadowtheatre? It was like they didn't see their guests and overcourteousness served as a sort of camouflage? We began to laugh silently at each in defence: "listen, here they go again .....".
Yes, it's possible to be extremely charming, and be fake still.
Or perhaps we are being oversensitive?

About the cuisine nothing but good things to mention. Real French tradition.
Tomato 3 ways, duck breast in wine reduction, lemony cream on speculoos crumble. Nice presentations, well made. Chef seems to have no fear of sour touches, interesting, tastefull.
But will we remember this meal for longtime? I guess not.

Nice winelist, with a selection of the regional St.-Pourcain, which we took in red. Yummy, soft and fruity.

All in all, good value.

Ate here twice on a recent trip to Lapalisse. Food is excellent, well priced and well presented. The local wine (from Saint Pourcain) is also good value and very drinkable. The staff were very friendly and patient with our poor French. Highly recommended.

Hotel located in the village of Lapalisse a short distance from the castle along a fairly busy road. Smiling and courteous welcome.
Not large rooms, standard furnishings for the category, they are not equipped with air conditioning nor is there a fan. In summer it is impossible to rest due to the combination of heat and external noises. Bathroom quite large: only one towel per person is provided: in our room towels that didn't dry anything and small ones for the shower (for further needs there is a surcharge). Overall I do not recommend this property.

We have been several times at this hotel. It is ideal for an overnight stop when travelling from Germany to the south. A very warm welcome, we feel well there.
But the top for us is the restaurant : great french cuisine. In the past we took always the normal menus which are already very good and worth the price. But this time we choose the Menu Epicurien where the different meals are selected by the "chef de la cuisine". It is not cheap but it is really worth its price. We had 9 different courses and it was delicious. It was a great experience. If you like the french kitchen and want to have good surprises ( and some time ), then it is really to be recommended.
We have been there for 3 years now and we will for sure continue

Lovely location a short stroll to the river and park, and the hotel itself provided us with all we could have hoped for - and more. Excellent menu and the chef was outstanding in presentation and quality of fine French cuisine . Our room was very clean , a very comfortable bed with good quality linen. A perfect halfway stop over between the south of France and Cherbourg.

A group of 7 of us ate here for lunch on the day of the bi annual celebration of the traditional route national 7 traffic jam. A fabulously eccentric event which means all the restaurants are packed out. This one only offered one set meal of traditional dishes from the area. The food was good and well served by friendly staff, however we got the impression that the price for basically terrine and potatoe pie was very inflated by the circumstances. We might come back in normal times, but probably not as there are so many other brilliant restaurants around who attach more importance to a reputation for always giving value for money.
