Detailed Reviews
Staying here as I am working in Cessnock for 2 days, decided to bring family with me this time. I booked accomodation and was told there were no rooms left that would accommodate a family of 4, was told would need 2 rooms and they would be right next door to each other, I expressed my concerns that I would not want my kids alone in a room and would prefer us all in one room, and also told them I was happy for my kids to share the sofa lounge. I was told the sofa lounge would only fit a small child and not 2 children.
I did question this 3 times or more and was told the same thing. I then called to confirm and see if any larger rooms available the day before as thought there would be cancellations. Was told there was not and that I needed the 2 rooms both nights. I was also told that I could cancel the day before and would not be charged.
On arrival I was charged for both rooms for 2 nights and was again told the sofa lounge would not accommodate my kids. We took both keys and only opened one room which had a large sofa lounge, large enough for my 2 kids to sleep on, the other room although attached was around the other side of a wall and bush, could not see front door from the other room.
I went straight away back to reception and advised we would not need the 2nd room as sofa lounge was large enough and I understood if I could not cancel both nights but could I cancel the 2nd room for the 2nd night at least. I was told due to “covid” and cause they had given me the key and I had touched it, they could not refund it or sell that room to anyone else as they could not clean it in over 24 hours notice.
We then went to the pub on the same property to get a meal and we were sent away as we are from greater Sydney and they have been advised to not let anyone in from anywhere in Sydney up to central coast area.
If we can’t eat at the hotel even though different ownership, then why are we able to stay in the hotel and not get a refund? Also I believe it would be illegal to allow kids under 12 years old to stay in a room alone overnight, without any interconnecting doors, regardless if next door I was never advised that an adult must be with kids at all time which I found strange, what if something happened overnight? Lucky I would never leave my kids alone but how was management to know this.
There is also centipedes and insects everywhere and the rooms have not been cleaned well at all not to mention to covid standards. There is a stale smell, dust and carpets are dirty also. I always sterilise and clean rooms on arrival regardless. We complained of the smell and I was given room deodoriser and cleaner to clean and spray room myself as apparently the cleaners had left, even though we saw a room being serviced as we walked back from reception.
I travel a lot for work and this is one of the worst service i have received from hotel staff.

While the grounds are lovely and the rooms are very nice from the outside and very large inside they are really in need of renovations and some updated furniture. The walls badly need a paint and the furniture is very old and worn. The table in our unit was glass topped and not very clean. It wobbled on its legs so much it was hard to sit at. There is a lovely pub at the front of the location but unfortunately it was not open on the nights we stayed except for one (even though when we rang them prior to arriving they said they would be) and there is no other place to eat at unless you want to drive to them so we had to improvise. We tried to use the oven and cooktop but they are so old that it was very difficult to heat anything up. I really thought that places would have used the long lock down we have just come out of to make sure everything would be sparkling clean and everything in working order. The dust on the lamps and lamp bulbs was an inch thick. Surely these accommodation places should be making sure everything has been cleaned for people to stay especially because of Covid. I had to wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes just to make sure. Don't rely on the reception area being open as it is closed most of the time. I rang to confirm my booking and had to leave a message but I am still waiting on the phone call back and we have been home for 4 days now. It is very disappointing as we were really looking forward to getting away for a few days after being in lock down for so long. The area is lovely to go for a visit though I just probably wouldn't stay here again.

The grounds are lovely and well maintained and the rooms look good from the outside. Inside the rooms are equiped with a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, basic cutlery and crockery. We had two rooms and both were in desperate need of a good clean, update and maintenance, Stains on the carpet, lounge chairs and filthy bed heads. . Such as shame as this could be a great place to stay

I am not one for reviews but after spending 2 nights at the Potters Brewery, I feel compelled to.
Potter's Brewery is on of those places you drive past and go how good does that look, we really need to stay there at some stage.
We booked on-line through deal site and were promised "private courtyard" however the "private courtyard" looked straight out at the rooms opp us meaning we had to have the blockout curtains down the entire stay. There was no sheer curtain either so unless you wanted everyone to see, the blockout curtain was down the entire stay.
The room itself was dated, stains on the carpet, stains on the lounge, cleaning staff never moved furniture tho vacuum under, moved the lounge top reveal a raft of dead bugs. The ants found a few crumbs and made there way in, found some spray however cleaning staff never wiped the bench down and the ants moved to the bathroom to find the toiletries. Cleaning staff came into the room, emptied the bins, changed towels n walked out, never made the bed, wiped kitchen bench down.
We paid extra for a King bed which turned out to be "2 singles" rolled together.
The only thing I can recommend for Potters Brewery is the location as it is close to wherever you need to be however in the Hunter Valley, everything is relatively close.
The other recommendation is the bar and restaurant which had its own feel however I would stop in rather then stay.
If your heading to the Hunter Valley for a romantic / couples weekend to reconnect Potters Brewery isn't for you. There is def alot better options for accommodation.

It is in a good location and close to the hunter valley zoo, staff are friendly are the restaurant on site is good, maybe limits in vegan/vegetarian options as they only had salads but still ok . The only negatives would be a few millipedes in the room I love insects so this wasn't a problem for me I just removed them to outside as they are harmless but may be a problem for future guests. Overall was good stay and comfy bed.

You don't come to the Hunter Valley to sample beer...or do you?
At Potters Brewery just outside Cessnock you do or at least we did. So there is a $10 tour of the brewery (located just off the pub) where you get not just an entertaining talk from the brewers but also three samples of the beer they brew and sell in the pub.
Dan and Ash deftly answered our questions (testing their knowledge 😊) which started to get sillier as the samples got lower in the glass.
And then, to make sure we'd retained our lesson, we despatched a schooner each of their ginger-chilli beer in the pub (located just off the brewery - did I say that earlier?). And then to make doubly sure we took a 750 ml bottle along as we left for our room.

My husband and I stayed at Potters for a week, and couldn't complain. As we were travelling in the off-season we paid much less than peak prices, and were quite satisfied with our king villa. Good sized room, and the private courtyard backing on to paddocks was nice to wake up to each morning.
Even if not staying here, the pub/bistro is well worth a visit. Didn't do tastings at the on-site brewery, but tasting paddles from the bar are good value.
We ate here on our first and last nights, and the food was insanely delicious. The bar/bistro staff are welcoming and cheerful, and it was a great experience. We will definitely be back, if only to eat!

I booked a unit requesting king bed be split into 2 singles, & confirmed with a phone call but our unit bed was a king, so back to reception for room change. Given new room, checked bed, all good moved all things in, went to bathroom , oops toilet cistern broken. Packed up got another room, found towel rail hanging off wall in bathroom of new room.....really? Maintenance person cane in with drull and fixed it The person in the office should have offered drink or food voucher as an apology but offered nothing
Despite all that property is well located with plenty green space. The onsite brewery and pub style restaurant is good.
Those with mobility issues or bad knees/ hips need to be careful as shower is located over the bath .Not sure if there are any units with sep.showers

6 of us stayed two nights. The rooms are spacious enough with all that you need for a short stay. There is even dishes and a microwave and toaster. The location is perfect. The grounds are so well kept. Lovely to just walk around. The pub is on site for a few drinks and a meal. Our room was fine everything worked but the toaster was filthy with burnt cheese left on it. The chairs and table outside we did have to clean because it was covered in bird poo. Others in the group mentioned their toaster didn’t work and a couple of other issues but overall we did enjoy it. Maybe some minor housekeeping issues need to be addressed.

Rooms smelly, bad smell in washroom. Carpets very dirty and several creatures (millipedes) inside the rooms. Very unhealthy and unsafe place specially when young kids are with you. No tea and milk supplies. Calls to reception goes unanswered. Food in restaurant very limited selections available. Poor customer service.

Hi Richard,
We currently do have standard Queen Room available for the 3 nights in June. The rate is $165 per night room only.
We are about 5 mins drive from Crowne Plaza.
The only form of transport for the area is Cessnock radio cabs so it may be easier if you hire a car from Sydney airport.
Kind regards Kathy
