Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Nechako Lodge for 1-night in late May ($138 pp with meals). The Nechako is a comfortably rustic lodge located on a hill overlooking Knewstubb Lake; from Hwy 16 at Vanderhoof, it is a ~90 min drive over sometimes rough logging roads. It consists of the main lodge building, a number of small log cabins scattered over the expansive property, and a lakeside campsite. The lodge has its own windmill and several solar panels, making it energy self-sufficient.
The 2-story lodge building, which is fronted by a large deck that spans the length of the building, has a restaurant and lounge on the ground floor; the lounge has areas for seating, conferencing and fly-tying, as well as a library with games, books and magazines. Upstairs are 5-bedrooms, each with 2-twin beds, end tables, a small desk, a chair with a stool and a closet. None of the rooms have an en suite bathroom; there is a shared bathroom and a room with a shower just down the hall.
Our room, which had a beautiful view of the lake (visible while lying in bed!), was dated and well worn but comfortable. Because the lodge rooms come with meals, they are quite expensive ($276/night for two) – a more reasonable option for those willing to bring in food is one of the cabins - they all have full kitchens with refrigerators ($92/night).
The proprietors of the lodge, Elisabeth and Joe Doerig, are friendly and helpful hosts. Elisabeth cooks your gourmet meals and Joe flies a float-plane for those interested in sightseeing or a drop-off for a more remote wilderness experience.
In summary, if you are looking for elegance or communing with nature in a spa environment, the Nechako Lodge is not for you. But if you are looking for rustic comfort and wilderness experiences that include hiking, kayaking, canoeing and fishing in a beautiful setting with congenial hosts, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed at the lodge from September 9 to September 14 in both the cabins and the guest rooms in the main lodge and had our meals made for us. The lodge is located in a great setting located amongst the trees with the Nechako Lake just in front of the lodge. Elisabeth and Joe the owners were great...they provided excellent service and the meals Elisabeth cooked were fantastic.
Although we did not fish, there were some fisherman that stayed for a few days that had been coming to the lodge every year for the past 20 years or so. They had some good fishing. Apparently the lake fishing in the area is supposed to be very good. The lodge is only minutes from the earth built Kenney Damn and not very far from the Cheslatte falls.
If you are looking for a relaxing outdoor holiday in a nice quiet setting and great meals, I would highly recommend the Nechako Lodge.

Stayed here with my dad and son for a family hunting trip. Stayed in cabin 4. Not only is it the best and most affordable place to stay in the area. But the owners treat you like your a friend. The cabins were very roomy and exceptionally clean. We will definitely be going back next year.

Great hosts, excellent fly and down rigger fishing, beautiful area. My fishing buddy and I fished 3 different smaller lakes from our pontoon boat with good results. Lots of other lakes w didn’t have time to get to. Good probability I’ll go again next year.

We thought of Nechako Lodge as a detour, but realized that it is a true destination in itself. We stayed in the Lodge, and enjoyed the rustic facilities and very hospitable host and hostess - giving you a feeling of visiting a distant family member and appreciate a private stay. Do hike the only peak in the vicinity - great views in all directions from the top! We borrowed a canoe and spent several hours on the lake in beautiful sunshine - very worthwhile. Access is on gravel road only, and it takes ca 1 hour from the main road. If you are lucky, you will see lots of wildlife on your tour to and from the lodge. Well worth a visit, and a very friendly couple who run it.
