We spent 5 days in this camping but could easily have left after one. The cleaning standards were poor, with rubbish piling up every day and bathrooms not cleaned regularly (sometimes not for more than a day and no toilet roll replaced). This improved slightly after bringing to the attention of reception but shouldn't be necessary. After this experience we didn't even try to use the pool or restaurant. Organisation at the site was also a disaster - with no clear assigning of plots and up to 5 tents occupying individual plots with no control. The area is nice and the villages around are attractive, but the campsite really needs to improve.

Having read the very mixed reviews of El Balcon we arrived at the site more than a little concerned. It is indeed a remarkable location; and the exploring the Alpulajarras is a special delight. But let’s be clear about a few things. The site is careworn and under-maintained. And it looks both. We stayed for three nights. The toilet blocks were very clean when we arrived; but they were not cleaned while we were there. The bar and restaurant are lonely under-patronised places. The residents are not friendly. They don’t have to be, of course, but don’t expect any acknowledgement or returned greetings. There are wild dogs on the site. They are not threatening but they do like to mark their territory. On the subject of dogs, the sound of otherwise tranquil Spanish nights is all too often that of barking domestic dogs. Well, El Balcon is no exception and the local dogs are very happy to wake you up every night. Don’t expect a single uninterrupted night’s sleep. In summary El Balcon could be sublime. But it isn’t. Bear that in mind and you might still enjoy the experience. As we did. The daytime peacefulness is unusual. The birdsong is delightful. The red squirrels are a treat.

Currently here for two weeks sun in the cold but beautiful mountains staying at Balcon De Pitres as we have for over ten years. Looking through previous reviews disappointed that others haven’t experienced the warmth of the area as we have so much so that we now own a place. Yes there is always room for improvement but if you accept the area for what it is a mountainous region, rustic, unspoilt with great amenities in the local village it is amazing. The site could benefit from a small face lift however couldn’t we all! The bar has been well run for the past four years by Maria and Pedro and is currently awaiting new management. Friendly without intrusive, unspoilt and unfinished but if you are looking for wall to wall activity don’t come here. Child friendly, safe, great pool in summer, bar, tranquility and fun works for us. Try it and make your own mind up bearing in mind what it is and where it is.

a beautiful tranquil site with two large tourer fields which get extremely busy in the summer months. The large swimming pool is a boon, as is the restaurant and nearby village of Pitres. Pitres has three bars in the square all serving traditional tapas and spanish beers and spirits. The village also has a 24 hour emergency walk in centre via your e111. There is also a bank, supermarket, Butchers, hardware shop and pharmacy. If you want discos and dancing then this is not the place for you. If you want peace, long walks in the forest and mountains and mountain biking or road cycling then this is just what the doctor ordered. The area is a throw back to old Spain with white washed flat roofed houses but has all the modern amenities you need for a relaxing stay.

I am a permanent resident on this beautiful site and I wanted to respond to a review from a Scottish family this summer. They obviously had a bad experience but this is not a true reflection of this fabulous, picturesque campsite. The site is well maintained and has a great restaurant and pool. The staff on site are extremely friendly as are the 15 or so permanent residents. I see the Scottish review stated that dogs were barking. This is Spain, try going anywhere in Spain where you don’t hear dogs in the distance. Some of the residents on the site have been here for over 10 years so they obviously like the area and do not agree with the comments made. Please do not be put off by the negative review posted, it’s well worth a visit and you would not be disappointed
