The small hotel "Sierra y Mar" is situated at the top of the village with a wonderful view over the flat roofs and the surrounding mountains. Entering the house through the blue door is like walking into a small village as the house is actually several houses joined together by gardens and terraces. The spaciousness and the quietness of the place is increased as most rooms have their own terrace with superb views. All the rooms have modern bathrooms and central heating. There is also a large living-room with a fireplace, a library and a kitchen for the use of the clients. WiFi.The small whitewashed village Ferreirola is beautifully and appropriately placed at 1,000 m on the southern slope of the National Park Sierra Nevada. The mild climate of the valley, the many mountain springs, and the rich vegetation make up the scenery of this former Moorish village.Fortunately for walkers an ancient network of mule tracks is preserved. Marked routes:The E4/ GR7, GR 142, Ruta Medieval.

We stayed with Sepp and Angela at Sierra y Mar for two nights at the end of October, 2019, and only wish it could have been more. They are gracious hosts who offer very comfortable rooms and a delicious breakfast (which should be eaten on the patio if at all possible). We spent our days walking and exploring the white villages of the area, and eating simple meals in little cafes, one of which was within walking distance of the inn. Both Sepp and Angela were very accommodating and generous; we felt as if we'd been there for a week after our short stay. Very quiet and comfortable, all waiting at the end of a memorable drive.

We had a great stay at Sierra y mar. We came for 2 nights to explore the Alpojaras, and found this beautiful, relaxing place. It is in a remote little village where you can feel the local life and quiteness of the area. There are a few restaurants and bars in a walking distance, and the larger village is only a 10 minutes drive. Angela and Zepp where So friendly and welcoming, and gave us some great tips for hiking around.

This is a place to connect with the beauty of a landscape at times dramatic and also subtle, truly away from noise and crowds. The tiny town is a gem of a place at the end of the road, evoking history and providing quiet for contemplation. As did Sierra y Mar. Breakfasts were a delight, served in the garden with the warming rays of the morning sun. Guiseppe (Sepp) and Angela were friendly and helpful as we planned day treks in the surrounding mountains. Accommodations are straightforward and comfortable, in keeping with the surroundings. Our experience here was delightful.

We enjoyed a wonderful Autumn week at Sierra y Mar guesthouse. Inger and Sepp serve the breakfast on the terrace as soon as the sun rises above the mountains opposite - and Inger offers all the advice you'll need for planning the day's hike in the hills - she knows the area extremely well - whether you'll hike from Ferreirola or start somewhere else or whether you want a strenuous hike or an easier walk! Back home in the afternoons we would usually grab a cold drink from the fridge and sit somewhere in the garden and read a little or look for birds :-) and generally just enjoy the view and the peace and quiet! We most often went to the next village to have dinner - but there is a kitchen - so you could cook your own meals if you should wish to do so. The Sierra y Mar is a lovely retreat and a great place to use as a base for exploring the Alpujarras!

Really beautiful location with walks from the door and two good places to eat a short walk away. Inger, our host, was so helpful with local knowledge, provided a delicious breakfast every morning and kept the fire stoked as the evenings are cold in February. There is a kitchen to prepare your own food and reasonably priced wine, beer and soft drinks to buy. Perfect.
