#2 of 4 B&Bs / Inns in Pitres
The small hotel "Sierra y Mar" is situated at the top of the village with a wonderful view over the flat roofs and the surrounding mountains. Entering the house through the blue door is like walking into a small village as the house is actually several houses joined together by gardens and terraces. The spaciousness and the quietness of the place is increased as most rooms have their own terrace with superb views. All the rooms have modern bathrooms and central heating. There is also a large living-room with a fireplace, a library and a kitchen for the use of the clients. WiFi.The small whitewashed village Ferreirola is beautifully and appropriately placed at 1,000 m on the southern slope of the National Park Sierra Nevada. The mild climate of the valley, the many mountain springs, and the rich vegetation make up the scenery of this former Moorish village.Fortunately for walkers an ancient network of mule tracks is preserved. Marked routes:The E4/ GR7, GR 142, Ruta Medieval.

We stayed at Sierra Y Mar for one night on 24th July 2010. Ferreirola is tucked away in a beautiful valley in Las Alpujarras. The first thing we realised was that this little Andalucian village was designed without the car in mind....as it should be. Leave the car in the little village square next to the church and the natural spring taps. A quaint little whitewashed alleyway takes you to the renowned blue door that is the entrance to tranquility and rest. Sierra Y Mar is a beautiful terraced garden, punctuated with typically Alpujarran styled rooms, each with its own patio area, overlooking the Trevelez gorge. Sierra Y Mar, is the real thing, and not some design fabrication. The hosts are charming and relaxed, and more than happy to share their extensive knowledge of the

This village is very relaxing and quiet. There's a small bar/tea room. In the next village (20 min walking) you'll find some restaurants, of which the vegetarian restaurant is quite surprising. For shopping we went to yet another village. This hotel is next to a long distance walking trail, and the area has many hiking possibilities. Our room was a bit small, but with wonderfull views over a mountain range, a terrace in front of our door. Others already stated that the owners are very friendly, and multilingual. Granada is at a 90 minutes driving distance.

We stayed at Sierra y Mar for 2 nights in late April, although we could have stayed a week. If you're looking for a tranquil and inspiring place to stay while in the beautiful Alpujarras region, this is the ideal spot- friendly and helpful owners, beautifully designed cottage-like rooms, and all in a gorgeous setting. From this B&B, you can take some wonderful hikes of varying lengths, explore the surrounding towns, or relax in the gardens with a good book. We would come back here in a second- highly recommended and excellent value. Note that it's better to have a car to get around this region than rely on public transport.
