Most warmly welcomed by Alberto (the owner) and Izaro, who couldn't have been more friendly and helpful with suggestions on places to visit. The nearby station provides trains to Bilbao, Bermea and Mundaka with stunning beaches. We were in a beautifully appointed superior room at the front with spectacular views over the mountains. Comfort in abundance. The superb breakfasts included... More

Hotel Urune is an oasis of calm, quiet and great design about five kilometres outside Gernika. The owner is friendly and charming and can't do enough to make your stay enjoyable. Lovely touch is afternoon tea with fresh cake. We stayed on the first floor in a nicely decorated room with lots of light. Very clean, good mattress and bedding... More

Like a house straight out of "grand designs"! I don't want to leave! Slightly out of the way of gernika, but easily accessible by a taxi for €10. Instantly you feel welcomed and relaxed. Just so luxurious! Roberto the owner showed us around and was by far the most welcoming host we have encountered so far along the camino. Highly... More

This place is amazing. We loved the surroundings and the beautiful, idyllic scenery. The room we were given had the best view over the valleys and the room was decorated perfectly with a combination of modern and traditional interior. The hotel is unique and charming and the owner is really nice and extremely service-minded. If I would seek to find... More

With my husband and our two girls spent one night at Urune Casa Rural. We stayed at a duplex for 4 people which was tasteful decorated and large enough to be very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and with plenty of choices. What impacted us the most was how helpful and friendly the owner was. Simply put the perfect attitude for... More

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Urune and couldn't bare to leave. The hotel itself is so beautifully restored, staff couldn't be sweeter, and you just feel at peace when you're there. All perfect amenities, and we had the pleasure of eating a few dinner meals there - where it felt like our Spanish families were cooking for... More

My favorite hotel during the weeklong trip in the Basque Country. If you stay here, make sure to budget an afternoon or evening to hang out in the hotel itself or take a walk around. Location: 10 mins to Guernika, 30 mins to Bilbao, 1.5 hr to the Ecopark (flysch tour) area. Thanks to our stay here we got to... More

We spent two nights in Hotel Urune and were sorry to leave. It's a relaxing, beautifully designed oasis in the countryside. We used as a base to explore local beaches and hills, it was a welcome wind down after a city break in the lovely San Sebastian. Really got an appreciation for just how lovely, unique and interesting the Basque... More
