We stayed at Cabanas Hermasen for eight nights and really enjoyed it. They are located on the main street at the North end of Maitencillo. We had a hard time finding accommodation in Maitencillo while looking from Toronto and were surprised to see lots of cabanas and rental houses once we were there. I don't think they promote tourism there so it's mostly the locals who stay in these places, so if you have a Chilean contact I'm sure they could find more rental options.

Parking is included which is awesome as the streets can be a gong show during busy times. Two of the staff members spoke English, otherwise we had to get by with our limited Spanish words and playing charades. Yes, the cabins are decorated in a rustic, handmade kind of style but they are charming, comfortable and clean and have all you really need. We stayed in #5 which was up a hill just slightly and was private enough for us. It had a fireplace which we didn't use as it was summer, but would be super cozy in the colder months. The beds and linens were good quality, the kitchenette had enough basics for two people, the bathroom was good (although the shower curtain would float inwards and stick to you during a shower which was very annoying. We had to weigh it down with shampoo bottles) and the sound insulation between us and the cabin next door was great as we could barely hear them (we shared a wall). It was great falling asleep hearing the waves at night!

The hotel restaurant was good although we found it to be a bit pricy. Having said that, we found a lot of the restaurants to be surprisingly pricy; comparable to dinners in Toronto. The upper level and the patio there had a great view, but unfortunately we were not allowed to sit there as they were the smoking section and we had our 4 month old with us. It's the law in Chile that a child cannot be in a smoking section which I think is great. The downside is almost all outdoor patios are smoking! However I was told that as of March 2013 all restaurants were going to be nonsmoking. Breakfast was fine but was the same every day which got a bit boring: eggs done to your liking, buns cheese, ham, cake loaf, jam and coffee/tea.

Maitencillo is a fun beach town that gets very busy. Because we had our baby we couldn't do lot of the things we would have normally done (like spends days on the beach!), but we still managed to enjoy the long clean beaches and had a few good meals at surrounding restaurants. We really enjoyed Zapallar as well. It has a gorgeous beach in a Mediterranean-like setting and has two restaurants there right on the water. There's also a seawall walk below all of the nice houses. If you drive further along the coast heading north there are nice views of the ocean and some great architecture.

I have stayed there many times over the past 5 years, I went there last week for 3 days and I must say it has gotten worse and worse. The best thing there is the people that run the place, the cabins are nice but they used to be nicer. In my opinion they are not worth the price anymore and the breakfast is really poor quality. I don't think I'll be going back.

We lucked across this place! Very cool cabins right across from the beach. They were super friendly and spoke some English (very helpful given my bad Spanish). We had a two bedroom cabin that included a kitchen, full separate bath (jack and jill arrangement), picnic table in the front and BBQ pit in the back. Off street parking was nice. And an ocean view! Wish we could have stayed longer.

Once you enter the Cabanas Hermansen cabanas it gets very rustical, even more: you feel like being in the house of the Flintstones.

The hotel has 16 different cabanas and is located right in front of a picturesque pacific ocean with lots of beach/sports activities. On their website you can find detailed photos of each cabana.

Not that I have an aversion against lumberjack design, but the fact that the shower water always took more than 10 minutes to heat up and that we experienced one of the most unfriendly breakfast services ever, ruined that Viking experience.

In fact, there is very little touristic hotel capacity / competition in Maitencillo, which explains the poor customer service. What a pity, as this place is really a great escape from boring Santiago de Chile and overcrowded Vina del Mar.

On the positive: they have a very good restaurant called Canasta, where it is quite difficult to reserve. We had dinner there and enjoyed the rustical ambience in hand with great food and wine.

We loved this place. We had been travelling for 1.5 months when we decided to treat ourselves for a few days and headed up the coast from Valparaiso to Maitencillo in search of sun and relaxation. We got the relaxation in bucket loads but not the sun! We hadn't booked anything, instead we walked along the front popping into places to find the right one. The pickings were very slim until we found Hermansen. We had cabin number 8 which is at the very top, cut off from the others and has amazing views of the ocean. From the minute we saw this place we loved it. We had a huge terrace with a table and benches and a BBQ that we used every night. Inside it had a well equipped kitchen, large living/dining space and a beautiful bright bedroom with double aspect windows looking into the surrounding trees. The cabin is finished to a high standard and when we were there it was chilly so we made use of the fireplace and the gas heater provided, both of which worked well. The cabin was cleaned daily and included a simple breakfast in the restaurant. We didn't try the restaurant at night.

There wasn't much to do in Maitencillo in March so we spent a lot of time in the cabin and had the space to do so. Our cabin also had a single bed and bunk beds in the living area so I'm not sure we would have gotten such a big place for just the two of us had it been peak season.

I've been here more than once, and this place is magic! The cabanas all have a special something, not to mention their decor which makes you believe you are in the woods with elves and fairies. Beautiful, well thought! Nice chimeney and ambiance. The restaurant will surprise you with an excellent variety of both, seafood and other and breakfast ( included) ... OMG ! You wont want to stop!
Definetly the BEST place to stay in Maitencillo.

These cabins have good vibes and were soulfully crafted to naturally blend the landscape...a nice change from Vina del Mar. The cozy fireplace kept us toasty. also included a welcome pisco sour drink & 10% discount at the restaurant, but we ended up grilling some steaks outside the cabin (a grocery store is just up the road). It was the off season so Maitencillo was was really peaceful.

This was our second time to Maitencillo and higly recommend Cabanas Hermansen. We traveled with friends and our 4 your old son. These cabins and the hotel grounds are ver well done. The cabi has a nice kitchen, sitting area, master bedroom with view of the beach (from our cliff-side dwelling), bunk bed, twin bed, also with ocean view; one bathroom and a deck area, overlooking the ocean. The cabins are a throw-back, vintage style. The restaurant is great and overall this place is just a gem, assuming you enjoy the privacy and rustic feel of a cabin. Chacagua is nearby if you're looking for a nice hike and view of some penguins!

Our family of 3 had a nice stay at hermansen cabanas and liked that we could self cater. The cabanas were recommended by friends who described them as little hobbit huts. We enjoyed sitting on our patio with a view of the ocean and although parts of the cabana were cramped we enjoyed our stay a great deal. The kitchen had all the basics and we had two rooms (one big, one small). We were in #14 and it only cost about $60cdn per night. They also have wi-fi.
Maitencillo was spectacular and reminded us of a Chilean version of Tofino, Canada.

We stayed in cabins 15 & 16 (which neighbour each other). Both are very cute inside & nicely furnished. Cabin 16 is probably the better of the 2 as it has higher ceilings and a slightly bigger seating area. Breakfast was basic, but sufficient. There are kitchen facilities in the cabins, so you could always cook your own breakfast too if you wanted. Wood fires in all the cabins were great too.
Staff don't speak much english, but it isn't that difficult to communicate. Waiters in the restaurant though did speak english.
The food in the restaurant is awesome, particularly if you get the selection plate for 2 or the fondue for dessert. Keep in mind it is closed on Sundays though. There are quite a few restaurants about a 5 mins walk down the beach though.
It was nice to get away from the city and stay in a nice chilled beach town. Lots of development going on around there too & I get the vibe it is quite happening in summer. There was also a surf school just down the road.
Make sure you go for a drive to Zappallar too and check out of the beautiful mansions by the beach.
