The bungalows of Aldeia da Mata Eco Lodge are spread in a tropical garden in the middle of the Atlantic Forest and a very beautiful shore, forming in this way a village between forest and beach. Each bungalow possesses its own architecture and exlcusive decoration. With balconies overlooking the sea and the forest. Specially developed for nature lovers who do not give up on charm and comfort.

It may be the most difficult review I have ever written. The low rating would be very unfair given the positive aspects of the place: impeccably friendly and kind staff, wonderful location, beautiful and very well maintained landscaping, ok bungalow (nothing exceptional, but ok), very good breakfast. But the high rating would also be very unfair because of what accommodation of this level and price does not offer: expensive lunch with few options and only until 2:30 pm, non-existent dinner (unless you order by 2:30 pm), empty minibar (you have to request water, beer and soft drinks from the reception that takes you to the bungalow, despite the minibar being there), zero snacks available in the bungalows, only a single brand of beer, long neck and expensive, the pool bar only works until 4pm, air conditioning of the bungalows don't do the job (probably due to the construction of the bungalows). To top it all off, the hotel is located in a place without many food options nearby, which requires a car. And, due to the hotel's characteristics, many guests want to go there so as not to set foot outside, just enjoy the location, the beach and the pool, but this is impossible. I imagine it must be a very difficult equation for the businessman due to the fact that there are only twelve bungalows, but the problem is real and failure to solve it could cost the hotel much more. I chose to leave a high rating to encourage the owner to read this review and reflect on what can be done as the place has many positive points and does not deserve to be defeated by its defects.

At the end of 2023 we were at the hostel for the first time and now we are back.
We want to highlight the subtle sophistication that involved us, improving what was already great, without losing the appeal of immersion in nature, with comfort and privileged care.
From the attentive discretion of the staff, the personalized care of the chef to the subtle scent of the wonderful towels, made us want to go back again and enjoy the wonderful beach in this charming place.
Thank you all!
Every detail was perceived and appreciated.

Peace! Great for honeymoon! Room wide and airy and great cleaning! Deserted beach and attentive staff! The night has no restaurant! I recommend room with bath!! It has the delivery option in the nearby village and arrives quite quickly, but you have to pick up at the reception!!

Very well located hostel. Suite front sea very spacious. Linen and towels clean. Very kind and efficient staff. Mancha coffee of excellent quality. Beach bar as well. Very reasonable value for what it offers. The only negative point, in my opinion, is the lack of natural lighting.

The hotel is really 30 km far away from Itacare and 30km far away from Ilheus... However, it's a very nice place, as well Claudia, the owner, is a very kind person. I spent 1 week in the Lodge with my wife and a baby. They cooked special meals for baby and for us. In the dinner room, we were talking about a Luau with with other guests. Later, Claudia provided the fire and other things at the beach... Her daughter played for us through the night. We feel at home. Nice food and a kind of prived beach are found in the hotel. Very nice place for those who want to relax!

This is a case of a resort that needs professional hotel management. The concept is great… jungle huts in a very wooded atmosphere, extremely close to a beautiful fine-white sand beach. The problems for us started when we arrived.
When our nephew, in our family group of 7, made reservations, we trusted that on our arrival, we would be welcomed, and given our rooms. We rented four huts. In fact, we arrived a bit late, around 4:00pm, only to be told that our reservations were lost. My first question… when you only have one other family at this resort, and it’s off season, and you need cash flow… how and why would you ever lose reservations? Well, it happened to us. So after having to wait a couple hours for our four huts to be readied, we settled in.
The facility itself is very inviting. But for me, our “hut” was less than up to standards. First, the insects have easy access to your hut, as the construction doesn’t include fully screened windows and shutters. And if you use the bug spray to hopefully kill the mosquitoes, a short time later when you return to your hut, you’ll end up with a hut full of dead ants and many other species in the bathroom and on top of your bed. Ironically, the bathroom, while a bit small, is modern and has strong hot running water. But once we walked out of our bathroom, the balance of the room was cramped, and didn't offer much shelf space. It just didn't work for us.
The first night, without air conditioning and a ceiling fan that did little to reduce the temperature, we were awakened to a heavy rain….. that easily found its way through the thatched roof and onto and into our bed! By the time we were ready to call the reception, the rain stopped. We just got used to the damp bedding, and appreciated that the rain lowered the temperature a bit. I wasn’t at all thrilled with a roof that had numerous visible openings to the sky.
The owner, evidently, wasn’t available, and her young daughter provided management. While she did what we asked, I could tell that hospitality wasn’t her strong suit, and wondered if this family was internally battling low cash flow, which shows in many small items in need of repair. When I asked about an electrical multiple outlet adapter for one of the wall outlets, I was given an adapter that had a ground pin. None of the outlets in their facility have the newer ground pin, so obviously, it didn’t work. Why wouldn’t the owners know this??? An even greater frustration, was returning to the pousada in our car, and pushing the button at the entrance, only to hear a "busy signal." We actually drove off for half an hour, and then came back to try again. We finally were re-admitted. But again... no explaination from management.
The café’ da manha is very good, and the working staff was very friendly. But when no one took the time to apologize, or even offer some level of discount for the inconveniences… I got the feeling this was a family owned operation, where no one really wants to be there… and no one either has the money, or if they did have the money, would not be willing to invest in upkeep of the accomodations.
So while the location and concept is great, this was a qualified “fail.” I would rather stay in a clean, modern apartment near the water, as we did in two of our other pousada stays in Bahia. However, if you’re really into being “One With Nature”, you might like this pousada... especially if "customer service attitude" isn't terribly important. But remember... they have "indoor toilets that flush...", so you really can't brag about "living in the jungle like the locals." :-)

We booked this place as its announced to be in Itacare, but it is 45min away on the road to Ilheus. There is nothing nearby and we were obliged to eat always in the pousada. The owner Claudia was very unfriendly.

It was terrible, the paid very little attention from the beginning, they messed up my booking, everything after that was of poor service, and also i cought the main receptionist and the manager, having intercourse behind one of the bungalows... it was awkward.

Response from Itacar_Melissa123456, Gerente de recepção at Aldeia Da Mata Eco Lodge

The informations on this comment are not true. We received the client very kindly and resolved the problem with his reservation (his international credit card was not allowed) as soon as he arrived in our hotel. We served all the meals at the bangalow for the guest, committing ourselves with a good service, that is already well known by our usual clients. Besides that, i can assure that no one has had sex behind the banlagow, thats a complete absurd, simply makes no sense. In the name of Aldeia da Mata's team, we apologize for any bad moment that our client can have unfortunately experienced in our Eco-Lodge. We are working hard in order to improve our services and promote great days for our guests. Aldeia da Mata invites that you, a nature lover, to experience this magical place, where a blue sea and green forest are joined with charming and confort!

We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed our bungalow by the beach immensely. Although, only one person (the owner's 19 year old daughter) spoke Englsh, we managed to communicate with her. She was so helpful, we admired her spirit and ability to understand us. We also loved Mary, the beautiful Braziliian with a huge smile who helped with everything, including serving us our meals cooked by Ellen the cook. Our meals were perfect and a bit gourmet, too, The grounds were also perfect with the proper attention to nature. It would be a treat to return someday
