Sprowston Manor Hotel & Country Club has received mixed feedback from guests. While some have commended the cleanliness of the hotel, others have pointed out neglect and inconsistent housekeeping. Noise levels can be troublesome, with reports of disturbances affecting the peace.
The hotel's atmosphere is often described as lacking, with dated decor contributing to a less-than-welcoming vibe. Room quality is a common concern, with guests citing various issues from maintenance to overheating. Although service can be hit-or-miss, with some staff members being praised and others criticized for their unprofessionalism, the amenities also fall short of expectations, leading many to question the overall value for money.

Detailed Reviews
We booked a 3 night break from Saturday 4th July to Tuesday 7th July. Checked in and socially distanced and plenty of hand sanitisers around. Room we really did like as lovely kingsize double bed, sofa, armchair, television, desk and chair with tea/coffee making facilities. That is where the good part ends. On arrival we were informed there was no restaurant open, no bar open and no leisure facilities. We were NOT informed of any of this when we booked or prior to arrival. There was an offer of ordering an evening meal from reception which I guess you then have to eat in your room, but the idea of a microwave, as all the meals on offer appeared to be microwavable, chicken curry at £10 each for microwave to then eat in your room was I believe rather insulting and overpriced. You could also purchase a drink in the same way, budweiser, peroni or j20. There was no mention at all regarding breakfasts. This was annoying and extremely disappointing. Message inside our room stated that nobody would enter the room until after our stay so as to ensure no contamination, which we understand so on that basis make sure there is sufficient supplies for a 3 night stay. For instance 1 tissue in the tissue box, only 4 uht milks for tea/coffee, only 2 sugars for tea/coffee, insufficient toilet roll amongst other things. As my wife and I were together I only took one room card with me when we went out and when we returned the card did not open our door. Another long walk back to reception to get this resolved. The next morning my wife went outside for a cigarette and took a room card with her on return to the room the card did not work. Realised she had taken the other card. At reception we were informed 'you probably had it in your pocket by a mobile phone'. Whilst I do accept this can cause issues, the card in question had not been anywhere until my wife took it in her hand outside the front door so this was not the problem. This was incompetence from the same member of staff on arrival who confirmed our 3 night stay and then logged our room cards for 1 night only. This is not rocket science surely. We did like our room and the setting is great but outside our room there is a lot of improvement required as this was very disappointing, depressing and unacceptable in our opinion. We should have been informed of nothing being available at all, bar, restaurant, pool, leisure etc Lots of improvements required regarding organisation, checks and information flow.

We booked into reception on the Friday about 5 pm and a young lady gave us the keys for our room for two nights on arrival to our room on the third floor we was looking at an unmade bed and empty packets of rubbish on the table I tried twice to ring reception but nobody answered so we went back downstairs and the receptionist asked why we was back and after telling her our room wasn’t ready she apologised and said the cleaners had marked it off as being ready so she gave us an upgraded room for the inconvenience. The new room was the Wardorf suite which was spacious but needs updating and so does the rest of the hotel in my view . The staff were pleasant and the breakfast was good would I return probably yes but dependent on price I must admit we paid £68.00 per night inc breakfast which is very reasonable but probably because the time of year and I wouldn’t be willing to pay over the odds until the hotel upgraded its decor etc

It was the little things that made this disappointing, as a family celebrating Christmas we were looking forward to our lunch. It did not start well, on arrival we made our selves known at the restaurant and were told to ‘order our drinks at the bar’ having the Christmas package which was advertised as fizz on arrival , I questioned this and those who wanted wine were served a glass but there was no option offered to those not wanting the fizz. The table had paper serviettes, and there was no salt and pepper on the table. It was also very off putting that the sea bass was served with spouts and roast potatoes.

Hi I have reposted the previous review as it made me laugh how 2 people can review the same hotel who stayed the same night have such a difference of opinion!!!!
Have been coming here now for over 20 years and yes it has changed hands from Marriott to Brittania hotels but that has not changed the service if anything it's for the better as you have not got Marriott prices !!
Booked a last minute standard double room on a dinner bed and breakfast deal for a surprise birthday getaway on the morning of the 18 th January to stay that same night at a cost of £134 ....Wow amazing deal
Arrived 5pm smooth check in took full payment , sent email to book table for 8 pm when making booking through booking.com.Was given room 306 large family room 2 double beds , Great room all that you need , fridge large tv , large bathroom with toiletries big fluffy towels , large wardrobe plenty of hangers trouser press , could not fault it .
Went down at 7.30 pm for pre meal drink , quickly served .8 pm made our way to restaurant check desk , was quickly shown to table and given menu .Menu had a selection of about 5 of each starter / main / dessert to choose from also a special of the day .I had chosen salmon and prawn , hubby had chosen fish cake .For main we both had chosen pork belly on a bed of mustard mash with cabbage. From dessert i had chosen chocolate cake and hubby had lemon tart .Overall could not fault the service and complement to the chef as all the food was delicious .Drinks we had a bottle of house rose this was £16 not over priced as was very nice pinot .
Went to breakfast at 9.30 am all you can eat ....everything from full English , to continental self service .
For a cheep night away could not fault , excellent service will definitely recommend and will be returning.
Have not mentioned the pool and spa as did not use also for a extra £30 could of added a round of golf such did not use .hope this is helpful.xx

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights with our dog, over the bank holiday weekend. We essentially were looking for a lovely place in a countryside setting, that was near Norwich and the coast. This did not disappoint.
There were a few issues that we noticed.
- Breakfast could have been better. More choice would have been nice but not the end of the world. Not sure about those complaining of long waits we went each day during peak time and were always seated within five minutes. (People were getting fussy and they seemed to forget there is still a pandemic going on)
- although we didn’t plan to use the pool we noticed if wasn’t open and this was not advertised when we booked the hotel last month.I can imagine if you went to use the spa and leisure facilities it could be quite disappointing.
Other than that we found the place to be perfect. We booked the smallest room and it was absolutely huge, modern, clean with a great view of the golf course. There were sanitiser stations around the hotel and masks had to be worn in communal areas. So we felt quite safe.
The location was great, only 15 minute drive into Norwich, 20 minutes to the broads and 35 minutes to Cromer and the coastal villages. Lots of parking around too including charging points.
It was very dog friendly and lots of places on site to walk the dog which he enjoyed very much.
Staff were very friendly and served us quickly. Check in and check out took less than 5 minutes.
I would recommend this hotel and a great base if your spending a few days exploring Norwich and the surrounding areas.

+1
We have always used this chain of hotels and have been to Sprowston manor around 4 times in past couple of years but each time the cleanliness has deteriorated through out was surprised how dusty every where was after the time theyve had time to deep clean throughout with the lack of guests these past few months, Most staff are more than happy to help with any questions and requests made, management needs improvement on way its run with cleanliness and over all running im here in august and still seeing posters up dating from march to april. It would have been nice to have been notified when booking this time that there was no spa pool or other amenities available during our stay this time, extractor fans in bathrooms have always been clogged and struggle to work but over all the bedrooms decor, size, location and amenities when available are lovely. Would be nice for a comfortable designated smoking are rather than being stuck out by the main front doors, as for a luxury hotel it is/ or could with standards raised

On arrival we were not told breakfast would arrive in a box, that lunch was unavailable or that the evening meal would be a cross between Pizza Express and KFC. Nothing on the menu for healthy eating. We felt as though the chef had gone to the nearest supermarket and bought the available frozen food.
The shower tray in the room had two large cracks across it. The limited number of staff were stressed and we felt very sorry for them. Sanitiser in the front entrance was empty on arrival and on departure the next day. Room card failed on the first day and it had not been near a mobile phone as suggested by Reception.
The golf course was in good condition and staff very helpful. We would not book this hotel again.

Well where do I start with this appalling hotel. If it was a 2 star maybe I could understand but a so called 4 star with 4 star prices I expect an excellent service. Greeted by reception at check-in 30 minutes early which was pre arranged and accepted with "did you know check-in is not until 4pm your room won't be ready until then"
Tried to book evening meal in restaurant apparently you can't unless you have booked a package of bed breakfast and dinner, this was not noted on booking. So long journey and can't get food had to find restaurant outside.
No room service to make beds replace towels, only 1 toilet roll, 2 tea bags, 2 coffee sachets, 2 sugar 1 pack of 3 biscuits for a two night stay for 2 people. Take your own.
Room dirty, tired and noisy.
Woken with an event until 3am, then woken at 7.30am with carpet layers ripping up carpet outside room.
Gravel carpark noisy with cars coming and going during the night and early morning.
Breakfast appalling hardly anything out had to ask for tea spoons, milk, more crossiants. Someone asked for a poached egg only to be told no it's fried or scrambled usually better service from a 4 star. No vegan or vegetarian options unless cereal.
Every time we went to reception there was always someone complaining about something.
Would never stay again and wouldn't recommend.

Just got home from a 1 night golfing dinner bed and breakfast stay with a group of 10 friends. The golf course was fantastic as was the golf. Sadly the golf bar wasn’t open and neither the hotel facilities.
The staff at the hotel were trying their best but one receptionist whom doubled up as housekeeping was not enough. The rooms are great but the welcome packs for in room coffee, shower gel, soap etc were not prepared before hand.
Poor experience at the restaurant, having been booked for DBB the hotel first stated they couldn’t accommodate our group. Thankfully the limited staff accommodated beyond normal kitchen opening times. Whilst I enjoyed my meal, who wouldn’t following golf, the menu was limited as expected but the choices didn’t offer a reduced carb diet. chips and burgers, scampi or gammon and yet more chips were on the menu.
Breakfast was well organised with tables invited into the area to collect breakfast items. However, yet again limited staff, the chef doubled up as the server.
However, really enjoyed the stay, and whilst it all felt very clinical it was great to get away. But please Management bring back more staff if you don’t want to be known as Faulty Towers and you would like guests to return.

Booked a ‘double room’ here (412). It was shocking for the price: tiny, dusty brown carpet, a tiny bed (large single?) pushed up against the wall. One flat pillow on each side. Furniture that looked like it had been bought off the set of ‘Crossroads’
Stains on the walls and what appeared to be a blood stain !! on the 1970s net curtain. Like a tragic boarding house. The kind of place where you really don’t want to lift the duvet to see the condition of the sheet and mattress underneath.
On lifting the net curtain to find the source of the continuous industrial noise in the room we found piles of cigarette butts, discarded coffee cups and the enormous kitchen extractor- which was the source of the noise and the smell- pumping out hot fumes less that 4ft away from the window.
Yes we got a deal for £85 for the night but even so, this place made the most basic of Travel Inns look like a palace.
When we went to reception to complain we were told that there were no other rooms ‘in our price range’ which appeared to imply that there were rooms, but that they had no intention of upgrading us. All three staff seemed rather ‘blank’ and none apologised.
We replied that we would like a refund and were off to stay somewhere else. At this point, the manager(?) offered to go and find and book us other available rooms in the city. While he did that we googled the holiday inn and booked a room there, it took about five seconds but couldn’t tell the manager as he had vanished. Eventually the manager came out with his list of other hotels in the city written on a postcard. We said we had already booked the holiday inn. He seemed a nice chap but none of the staff appeared to have had any training in ‘hospitality’ whatsoever. They were clueless to the point of actual rudeness.
After half an hour’s drive, at nearly 10pm we arrived at the fabulous, friendly, clean Holiday Inn on Ipswich Road. If you are coming to stay in Norwich give Sprowston Manor a wide swerve. Awful!

Definitely no room service at any time!
I believe this was available in the golf club house but not the main hotel.
When we were there in Sept the club house was the place to go before 5pm(I think) to get food or drinks. Pretty sure they had paninis and the such.
I think it depends on the day if the room is ready
