Detailed Reviews
We stayed at this hotel for my daughters 4th birthday weekend, like most people when viewing the feedback on little hotels we spent a considerable amount of time trolling though trip advisor to assess the general feedback and to be fair the comments made were a true reflection on the hotel and staff.
Yes there are some parts of the venue that are tired and could do with bringing into the modern world however, this does not spoil the experience, the staff were fantastic and very friendly, nothing was too much, their attention to detail and interaction with other guests would put most 5 star places to shame, massive thumbs up and well done for this.
The breakfast was very pleasant and yes it’s hard to go wrong with an English fry up, but with using local produce and not going cheap on the bacon and sausages contributes within the enjoyment factor.
Even to the point of great cut fruit rather that the tasteless canned mass produced fruit was a huge positive!!
The room service menu is basic but we enjoyed what we ordered all the same and in some cases less is more!
My only slight negative comments are we stayed in one of the converted barn rooms with a 4 poster bed with two small camp beds for my daughters, the room was a little dated and could do with bringing into the modern world and there wasn’t a window to open to allow the fresh air in, however that’s it.
The basic accommodation served its purpose, it was clean and tidy and a safe refuge for my family.
The hotel was well equipped to deal with COVID with plastic glass screens over reception and the bar area, clear one way directions in place and plenty of hand sanitiser stations dotted around.

Visited here with friends and sat outside to have dinner; lots of heaters on the patio so was never cold, really good food and friendly staff. Was really good about my coeliac, they had a separate “coeliac menu” outlining everything I could have on the full menu including a burger with a gluten free bun, bread rolls, sticky toffee pudding, etc. Chef was really knowledgeable and helpful when it came to a nut allergy; he checked all the ingredients one by one of the desserts and could guarantee the apple crumble and strawberry cheesecake were nut free. Service was great, staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely be visiting for dinner again!

Stayed for 4 days and nights. We had a very nice welcome from staff who showed us to our room and made sure we had everything we needed to relax after our journey. The room was comfortable, with plenty of room to move about and the added bonus of a fridge. We were asked every day if we had enough Fresh milk, water and teabags in the room which was a nice touch. The breakfast in the morning was plentiful with cereal, fruit medley and a full English breakfast, tea and coffee, all very tasty. In the evening we ate in the restaurant for two nights. The food was very good, my wife had chicken wrapped in prosciutto with creamy garlic mushrooms and the second night the sea bass, I had the belly pork two nights running it was that good. Out side was a beautiful garden with good pool and plenty of space to sit read or just chill. Would I go again? Certainly! Our compliments to the owners and staff, who were very friendly, nice place.

For what we paid, two adults, one five year old, we found the room very poor. The room smelt damp, and clothes and towels felt damp as well. When we requested fresh towels they were left outside the room and dirty/damp towels were not removed, towels didn't even dry on the on the heater in the bathroom. Cups were not refreshed each day, requested clean cups which did not arrive, so had to use the dirty ones. Water was only supplied on request, for that price it's usually complimentary. We found the food adequate, but over priced, We found the staff faultless and very attentive. Bonus was the pool, but would not stay there again.

We booked The Old Rectory Hotel as a romantic getaway for a few days. Unfortunately this is not how the hotel came across. We were shown our room which to start with we had no complaints, we booked to eat in the dining room the first evening and dressed for dinner we felt over dressed, we were shown our table which felt like we were sitting in a National Trust restaurant, the lights were not dimmed and the radio was playing with the news blaring out, no candles on the table and no atmosphere in the room at all even though there were quite a few couples in the room, the food itself was exceptional, (ironically the outside looked fabulous with all the lights in the trees). We decided to eat our evening meal else where, we had no complaints with breakfast. Going back to our room the pillows were to soft and new mattresses were needed on the beds. The bathroom door really squeaked which was so annoying in the middle of the night. Also it was very irritating having complimentary sachets of shampoo and body wash that you had to try and break the the seal without scissors, reusable little bottles would be better. On a plus side it was great to have a fridge in the room. So with a few little tweaks this hotel could be very good as they have already nailed the food.

Looked lovely from the outside but inside was a different matter . We paid for the honey moon suite as it was our anniversary and never been so disappointed. We got in and started to unpack I took off my socks and shoes and was walking round putting clothes away, I sat down on the bed to put my feet up as the bed was comfortable and felt something on my feet when I looked much to my disgust I had dirty dry clump of dirty skin and a toe nail clipping, as you can imagine my stomach churned immediately . Apart from that there was hair all over the carpet every where and petal decorations under the bed where it hadn't been hoovered . The decoration leaves alot to be desired . Nothing was done properly. The bathroom needs a deep clean there was mould around the bath , the taps needed a good scrub . Being a honeymoon suite I would have thought there would have been more complementary things but was very basic . I went to reception and we have never complained before we always go on complementing because people are to quick to complain but we really couldn't not say anything it made us feel sick . The staff were very nice and they moved us to a different room but to be honest the room we went to also needed a good clean the bathroom again had mould that can be easily removed and don't know why it wasn't ..the taps when lifted to use had black mould round that I removed myself the door hadn't seen a paint in god knows how long .. all night although in a different bed my skin was itching so did not sleep very well . We were hoping the breakfast would redeem the hotel but we have never tasted such a bad breakfast everything had been microwaved to death .. the mushrooms looked like rabbit droppings and we're foul .. the bacon very dry and the sausage had also been microwaved .. very disappointed.. it says on the website that rooms are cleaned professionally but we heard the staff who seem to do everything there talking about they were going to devide the rooms between them for cleaning .. so so disappointed to be honest feel like we had been conned .. such a shame but if had the hotel I would of immediately issued a refund upon complaint and offered a room..which we were but let's face it someone else's DNA in the shape of clump of dirty skin and a toe nail is foul and we should of been issued with a full refund .if it had not of been so late we would of stayed else where but it ruined our anniversary and made us feel sick .. such a shame

We stayed two nights, our room was clean and comfortable had everything we wanted.
A no frills hotel which is ideal for us.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We ate our breakfasts and evening meals in the hotel and the food was of good quality and presented very well.
Would definitely recommend staying here and we will return when in the area. Thank you.

We had our wedding reception here yesterday and I can honestly say it was perfect. Due to the pandemic we have had to reschedule our wedding four times and each time Rebecca has been amazing, changing room bookings and keeping us updated at each stage. The venue is beautiful but what makes it is the staff. Nothing is too much trouble and we truly felt like royalty yesterday, the food was lovely and bar prices very reasonable. I cannot thank the old rectory team enough!!

We arranged to meet friends at the Hotel for an evening meal on a Sunday evening, although we were staying at the Hotel.
Our welcome was warm and friendly, once you discovered where the bell was to alert staff.
We booked the Superior Room 3 for our overnight stay with breakfast. The room was nicely furnished and the bed and linen fine. Decor is very dated, and paintwork really needs a re-fresh, and so far as hygiene is concerned, why on earth is there a dirty grey 'shag pile' carpet in the room. A laminated sign offered free water from the fridge, but there was no fridge. Plenty of mirrors in the room, but all were very poorly lit, so a big no,no, from the my wife. A delightful corner lamp was in situ, but with a broken shade.....small issue I know, but so easily repaired.
Emma, the staff member on duty was delightful. She did everything we could wish for to make our stay very pleasant. As we had guests coming for an evening meal we asked if there was a residents lounge area, and were shown through a 'conference' room to a small lounge area. This lounge is simply dreadful. Settes from a bygone age, poor really rather dirty tables and a 'dead' television laying on its back. So sad, when at night the lit trees and Arbor opposite the entrance to the Hotel are just lovely.
Menus were delivered, and decisions made, and after a very fair time factor we four were shown into the Restaurant / Function room. Apart from two other diners we were the only guests there, and rather strangely were seated two feet away from the other couple.
The table, and all the cutlery were fine. The meal was served by Emma who again was just lovely. The meal itself was SUPERB, high quality produce and in our view cooked to perfection. My wife actually said that her steak was one of the best that she could ever remember, and was cooked just as she ordered.
Breakfast the next morning, was again of excepional quality, as was the coffe, even though it was from a machine. Never quite sure why toast in an Hotel arrives so early, and is therefore cold by the time a guest wishes to have marmalade, but against that, my poacjhed eggs arrived on 'buttered' toast; so 10/10 for that !!
Any reader who has the time to read my review, hopefully feels that as I am a regular 'Trip' Reviewer, I do try to be fair. So much is good at this Hotel, but the Management need to look around with guest eyes.
Would we stay again.....Oh yes !.

Stayed one night with my husband and son. Arrived a bit early but had a very friendly welcome at reception and went straight to our room after our temperatures were checked! The hotel felt very 'Covid-safe' and as though a lot of effort has been made to look after staff and guests. Our room was clean and comfortable with a fantastic shower. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both meals were excellent. The staff were attentive and very friendly and we had a really relaxing stay.

We are located around half an hours drive from the college, there is a bus service but it is very limited I would Personally suggest a taxi would be easier.
Sorry cannot help you. Suggest you contact hotel direct.
