Rowley Manor Country House Hotel presents a mix of experiences for its guests. Many have enjoyed the hotel's quaint charm and historic elements, including the cozy fires and picturesque location, which have been particularly appreciated. However, some areas of the hotel, including the rooms and certain amenities, are flagged as needing renovation and better maintenance.
Guests have had varied encounters with the service, ranging from friendly and attentive to slow and disorganized. Additionally, the value for money has been questioned by numerous travelers, who cite the cost of food and services as being on the higher side. Despite this, the dog-friendly policy and the warm atmosphere of the bar have received positive mentions.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed at Rowley Manor for one evening. Reception service was good and the lady who checked us in was very professional. Our room was situated at the top of the hotel and was very small. In fact the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in! The furniture was very basic and the headboard constantly rattled. We solved this problem by squashing a towel between the headboard and the wall. There was a distinct lack of plugs which was solved by placing a plug bar on top of the chest of drawers. Not ideal! The room was clean and the bedding nicely laundered. When I stay in a hotel I enjoy a hot bath/ shower before I get ready for dinner. Sadly there was no power in the shower and the water was Luke warm. Very disappointing. Consequently I felt cold during the evening.
When we went to the restaurant for dinner the service was good and although the menu was not extensive the food was very good. The cutlery was wrapped in a serviette and brought to the table when we sat down, following Covid rules. The sticky toffee pudding is the best I have ever tasted
The bed was comfortable and we slept well.
The following morning when we went to breakfast we were surprised to find cutlery, butter and marmalade all on the table. Neither the butter or marmalade were covered. The girl who served us was very pleasant and informed us that because of Covid we could only have full English which was fine. We were very surprised that there was no cereal offered. I wouldn’t have thought it was difficult to offer some fruit or cereal or maybe a yoghurt or pastry to finish off. I am afraid that took the edge off the visit and made me think it was just to make things easy and save money. The gentleman who served our breakfast was not wearing a mask despite the fact that other people did. I also passed two cleaners on the stairs and neither of them were wearing masks.
I don’t like to write a review with many negatives but left Rowley Manor feeling let down. Especially as I had been so looking forward to the visit.

Rowley Manor is a lovely place to spend the afternoon, evening or a night or two.
We were happy to see all COVID-19 restrictions in place and felt safe with the staff and Amanda (the manager). One way system, plenty of hand sanitiser around the reception, bar and restaurant, masks and visors worn by all staff and screens around the reception area. The tables were not set until we sat down and the servers careful not to encroach into our space.
The food in the restaurant was exceptional, well presented and delicious.
The rooms are spacious and all different which we love in a hotel. The staff very obliging, Rohan in particular, very polite, knowledgeable and helpful. Nothing too much trouble.
We will be going back soon. Loved it.

We had a lovely stay at the Rowley Manor, which has a certain charm and character about it. A genuine old manor house with photos of how it used to be add to the interest of the place. It is set in fabulous grounds and very peaceful.b
On a very chilly August day we were greeted with open coal fires in original fireplaces. All the staff we came into contact with were friendly and helpful.
The rooms are dated, however, spotlessly clean and perfectly adequate. The breakfast, included in the price, was freshly cooked - it really was excellent value for money. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Visited as a wedding present for me and my wife in room 11. The room has inadequate heating and hot water and same for the rest of the manor, our toilet leaked alot when flushed (close couple kit has failed) and inside the cistern needs a serious clean. The place has single glazing this is fine aslong as the heating is adequate to cope it was cold and absolutely freezing getting out the shower. The hot water was non existent and the water flow was that poor i struggled to actually have a shower. The room walls were so thin and could hear every foot step i think we were especially unlucky as we had a poorly played banjo and carol singer next door walking us up at 8:30 in the morning and last night.
It says it all when the staff are wrapped up because of the heating been non existent
The breakfast was to a better standard but £10 for a full English breakfast was excessive for the amount we got.
The overall cleanliness and upkeep of the property is very poor and needs alot of money spending on it to get it to anywhere near the price they think they can charge
Unfortunately its given us a memory we would rather not have had
I cant possibly give more than 1 star for the simple but basic hot water and heating requirements

I frequently recognise low rankings as an indication of isolated areas of dissatisfaction, however my recent visit to this once proud Manor House left me with both disappointment and regret.
I booked a discounted rate of £95.00 for a Deluxe Room for myself and my wife, which represented a substantial saving on the normal rate for the property. The booking procedure via telephone was excellent, and offered little insight into what we committing ourselves to.
Upon arrival there was no one at the check-in desk, and it was a ‘waitress’ who finally sought a member of staff to complete procedures.
We were given the keys to room 2 and proceeded upstairs to the first floor landing via a now old and sad looking stairway. The room, at the end of a short corridor, faced the front and side of the property, and our first sight on entering was that of a long bland bathroom, with little in the way of soft furnishings. The bath was cracked and scratched in a number of places, the window of plain glass to the gardens and the vanity top derived from a short length of kitchen worktop. The bath fittings were at odds with this ad hoc environment, echoing times past with a Victorian bath filler and hand held shower. Plastic panels around the bath completed what was an uninspiring first impression of our accommodation.
Moving to the bedroom, the four poster bed was very well presented with bedding folded for arrival, however this is where the admiration stopped. The large mirror over the black fireplace is old and frankly creepy, with the silver mirror backing evidencing dampness and the ravages of time. The wardrobe and seating have clearly been overpainted in pursuit of a ‘vintage feel’, however failure to remove the underlying blistered varnish layer simply amplifies their cheap and shoddy appearance. The TV is a small screen offering placed on a low table beyond the chez, making it virtually impossible to view from the bed, likewise you almost have to kneel to use the adjacent kettle and packet coffee. Despite the presence of ‘WIFI heating’, a supplementary free standing alternative had been placed in the room, and a folded coffee packet under the rear leg was required to prevent this from humming.
Having driven some 100miles to re-visit this once hidden gem, I opted for a bath, only to be confronted with what can only be described as green contaminated water. When I complained, I was told that this could be attributed to little use during the pandemic, and that we could move to another room, albeit with the same water source!! So, I am to assume that in the absence of any bottled water in the rooms, guests are left with only this discoloured tap water to drink during the night hours?
We handed back the keys, and drove back home within the hour…….£95.00 light in pocket

Had a voucher from buyagift.com and decided to use it at Rowley Manor for bed breakfast and evening meal , what a mistake that was, Room was tiny and bed pushed against the wall and furniture was all dirty and stained , decor of the room was all dirty and cracked peeling paint and cobwebs There was a small Tv on the wall in the bedroom and it was the tiniest tv I’d ever seen and the sound wasn’t working properly, so was unwatchable and was also not fixed to the wall properly as the screws were hanging out the bracket , told the reception and they just laughed about it , Bathroom was filthy , dirt in the bath , toilet seat hanging off , exposed wires to the electric towel rail in the bathroom ! Dangerous! We were booked in for dinner at 7pm and was going to both get changed , but due to the cleanliness of the place we decided to stay as we were , went down for dinner and there was only 4 items on the menu , and 1 of the items was a steak , but there was a £10 supplement for it ?? there was also cheese and biscuits on the menu and they also had a £6 supplement what an absolute Joke . We decided not to eat anything, had a couple of drinks at the bar to hopefully help us sleep , just as were drinking up to go to bed , water started pouring through the ceiling in the bar area , I ran to get help from reception and told them , but they just put buckets down and said “ I think one of the guests is having a bath “ they didn’t seemed phased about it at all. We decided to have cooked breakfast in the morning as it was usually only a continental that was included, it was £10 each for an upgrade for the cooked , but when we got downstairs there was no continental breakfast, only 3 varieties of mini cereal , cooked breakfast was cold on hot plates . We checked out straight away , Hotel charged us a £40 supplement for being a weekend with a buyagift voucher and then a service charge of £20 and then £10 each for breakfast, We were very disappointed and disgusted with the whole experience and never plan to visit this place again . Health and Safety should close this place

We stayed for one night in May and I must say whilst the location is gorgeous we were totally shocked at the state of our room. It was classed as a four poster delux room. There was nothing delux about it. Granted there was a four poster bed but it was dreaful, part of it fell on us in the night. The carpet had seen better days and the furniture in the rooms resembled what I recall having for my Sindy in the 70s it was so dated and shabby. The bathroom was also in need of a complete refub. The windows were taped shut and the whole room looked like it was being held together by sealant!! We didn't even use the shower it was that bad. The stairwell was dangerous, my husband fell on it 3 times, so I would avoid having a room if you must stay here on the 2nd floor. The main staircase whilst grand is shabby and could do with a good dust. Such a shame that a beautiful old building like this, has not been maintained - some investment to bring it back to it's former glory is much needed. I was also shocked that whilst we paid £140 for the night which we paid upfront, the hotel then took an additional £20 off my Amex without approval as we had a dog with us. I have called the hotel several times and was told the owners would call and nothing. I will not be staying here again. Come on guys put some love into the place and respond to your customers!

Having noticed a couple of very poor reviews of Christmas 2019 at Rowley Manor I felt compelled to submit my own review, to provide much needed balance. The experiences of those reviewers is unrecognisable to me and my wife.
After spending every Christmas at Rowley since 1998, I can say that almost all have been excellent or very good. On the odd occasion where things haven't been quite right we have made our views known and they have been taken on board. However, we remarked, upon our departure this time, that this had been one of the best Christmases we had spent at Rowley..
The service throughout our stay could not have been better, from the welcome by Amanda to the general hospitality shown by Steve, Ashleigh, Rohan, Jack and others.
Comments have been made by some reviewers that Christmas Day lunch was poor. We certainly did not find it so..It was served hot, was very tasty and the quantity was just right for us. Perhaps a mini-mince pie would have gone down nicely at the end, but there was plenty of Christmas cake available after dessert. The meal was served at a comfortable pace, with acceptable waiting times between courses helping the digestion and allowing us to fully appreciate the ambience.
We plan to return to Rowley for Christmas 2020... why would we feel the need to go elsewhere?

Have had Christmas Day lunch here on several occasions. Don't know what's happened but this year was just appalling. The usual welcome was missing, staff were unhelpful and slow, and there was none of the extras that made it so good previously. We ended up paying £90 per head for 3 poorly cooked and presented courses. No mince pies, and coffee extra. Very poor value for money, really spoilt our day. Would not recommend and will be going elsewhere next year.

We booked a room the day before discounted through late rooms which went via Booking.com . We were asked to say what time we would arrive and we received,” Permission .” To do so!!!!
On arrival we were directed to our room. I am afraid to say it was the worst hotel room I we have ever stayed in.
The mattresses were extremely soft. They were like floating on a giant spring. The room was decorated in wood chip magnoliaed.
Everything in the room worked but you could not open the sash window because the cords had gone. The room was seeming clean but the bed throw had simply been turned over to hide a bad mark.
The bathroom still had an avocado suite!! It worked but the bath creaked like mad as you stood in it to shower. The pressure was low. On the floor behind the hand basin amazingly there were tiles set up at 45 degrees presumably to deal with a leak or something. There was no window and no ventilation.
Appallingly the fire door on the landing from the first floor to the staircase for our second floor was constantly wedged open during our stay.
Staff were really doing their very very best to make you feel welcome and accommodate your needs. Half the staff were students doing their best with limited training. The two more senior staff were really good.
We booked in for an evening meal. The choice was very limited but the meal itself was excellent.
Breakfast was very basic. There was no fruit or yogurt. The full English was excellent.
The hotel inside is basically old and tired in public areas but pleasant on a coolish with big open fires. The grounds to the rear are the real gem of the place - with a small church in the grounds. Enormous potential. A wonderful setting for weddings - relaxed and informal.
Simply put the hotel rooms are so tired and the fire risk associated with a wedged fire door I would strongly advise against staying in this hotel. A wedding could be nice with the grounds and the church on a nice day but not sure how good your food would be like, they skimped on breakfast.

Response from Chef-Lee Carter, Owner at Rowley Manor Country House Hotel
Responded Jun 30, 2022
Sorry to hear about your stay, we have recently taken over Rowley and have sorted the food out first and we are getting some amazing reviews on the food and service, we have just started the rooms and doing them one by one, it’s a 401 year old building and we will get there at some point but as you may well know buildings of this age and after 3 lockdowns have there issues. That we are with fixing Kind regards Lee Carter
