Unfortunately our stay what not what we expected. We paid £330 for our 2 night bed and breakfast couple stay. The room was dirty, there were flies everywhere and spent the first hour trying to get rid of them! We asked for fly spray but we never got given any even after waiting a day. . Wifi was hit and miss. Good points- The location was beautiful, bed comfy, bath amazing and breakfast nice, although a little tight on breakfast. The price did not reflect the service or room. We should have been told that the swimming pool facilities were closed prior to the booking, as its Covid will let that one go. For the amount we paid this was not value for money..

Response from Alison Gaskell, Guest Services / Front Office at Burythorpe House
Responded Feb. 8, 2021
Thank you for taking the time to write a review in regards to your stay in September 2020, we are always receptive to constructive criticism when it is justified but on this occasion I feel this is not the case. My housekeeping team are extremely hardworking and incredibly diligent within their duties and I know that if they had been informed of this problem they would have acted immediately. As we are in a very rural location and you stayed during harvesting time flies can be a problem, but a problem that we know how to deal with. We would not simply offer a can of fly spray and then proceed to forget to give it to a guest. Further to this, complaints of this nature are usually dealt with at the time opposed to almost five months after you checked out of the hotel leaving us with no clear idea of which staff member you dealt with or how we could have improved your stay with us. With Kindest Regards Alison Gaskell General Manger @ Burythorpe House Hotel

We stayed here recently for my belated birthday treat and it was wonderful. We received a friendly welcome on arrival and were impressed with the Covid 19 procedures in place. Our room was spacious, clean and very tastefully decorated. The bathroom was huge with a powerful shower. Apart from 1 other guest we were the only visitors so the house was quiet but it still felt warm and welcoming. We met the chef Mark who performed many roles during the evening. What a friendly and interesting man. He made us feel very welcome. The food for dinner and breakfast was spot on. Full of flavour. We chose a wine recommended to us and it was perfect. Unlike some places we have stayed, here all the drinks prices were very reasonable. All in all a great birthday treat for me. We will be back and would recommend you visit.

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed here whilst visiting loca family during the Covid restrictions. The staff are amazingly helpful and professional and we felt very safe during our visit. There is a casually informal and relaxed atmosphere and the food both at dinner and breakfast was delicious. Great service at the bar in the sitting room too, and a roaring fire by the Christmas tree.

Stumbled on to the hotel when on a country walk from a nearby holiday cottage. Asked if we could sneak in for afternoon tea. Well, Alison couldn't have been more accommodating. We didn't want a full tea so they gave us a 'mini afternoon' tea. Outstanding. Felt completely save covid wise. Very good distancing between those present. I want to book my next Yorkshire holiday there!

We booked an overnight stay in order to enjoy a wine tasting visit to nearby Ryedale Winery. The only other booking was a small wedding party of 15 guests owing to current guidelines and they were in a private section of the hotel. This meant that my husband and myself had sole occupancy. We were treated like royalty. The room was spotless, spacious(even though classified as "petite") and extremely comfortable. Our evening meal was second to non. The canon of lamb would have won on Masterchef Professionals. The staff were all local and friendly without being invasive. Nothing was too much trouble. We even had a free drink each because they felt we waited too long for our main course. We were not unhappy for the wait as it was all cooked to order but we accepted the free drinks with good grace. I would thoroughly recommend this place and would happily re visit. We saw the room prepared for the wedding reception. It was superb and classy and had all been done in house. It was a credit to them.
