A great find. Just 15 minutes drive from York with York Minster and the National Railway Museum, to name but two attractions. Close to Castle Howard and RHS Scampston Walled Gardens, and an easy drive to Flamborough Head RSPB reserve and lighthouse, Filey and Scarborough - the location was perfect. Cosy, elegant and friendly hotel with helpful and efficient staff.

Tastefully decorated, lovely rooms ( we had the middle grade of the three grades of bedroom) and all very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was beautiful. Each room was tastefully decorated. The lounge areas were comfortable with settees & armchairs, but it was the area that was stunning, with views over the fields. Really friendly staff who made you feel as though nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a quiet & peaceful setting.

This hotel surpassed my expectations. We had booked a 'small double' and therefore had a cheaper rate but it was absolutley gorgeous and didn't seem small to us at all. The bathroom was beautiful with Molton Brownn toileteries. The lounge areas are gorgeous and furnished to a very high standard. Dinner in the restaurant was absolutely first class. It really...

We arrived in the early afternoon and asked if it was possible to have a sandwich. No hesitation and shortly a plate of the best sandwiches we have tasted arrived. What a great start and a good indication of what was to come. All the staff were very attentive and very happy. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and had everything...

The precis; an un-superior room, poor management leading to a clueless, but smiling and friendly team. poor customer service and a dangerous shower. The lodge is warm and exceptional, The public areas have grown old and sophisticated like a well cellared Bordeaux....
