Detailed Reviews
Not cheap but one of the better resorts here.Road from Kuching to Sematan real bad esprcially with the rainy season around.Have not been here for more than 15 years and road is worse than last time due to construction going on.
Dinner and breakfast is provided. Not buffet style probably due to Covid..but it was simple, big portion and tastes reasonably good.Friendly staf.
Staff were friendly. It was raining heavily when we arrived .Getting to the 4 pax chalets means getting wet as they are not connected to the dining hall.Chalet is ok but be careful not to leave food around..ants will come in a short while
Good place for relaxation .Has a long beach..which I don't fancy staying too long on as there are sandflies..like most beaches in Sarawak

Very friendly staffs, nice beach and food, clean facility. We came during pkpb, so no dine-in/ pool allowed. Not so much attractions around here, but it is a good place to spend time with family & friends.

We stayed 1 night in a terrace room which sleeps 6. This was value for money at RM420 nett including dinner and breakfast for 6. The room has 2 bedrooms (air conditioned), a small sitting area, 1 shower and 1 toilet. Coffee and tea facilities provided. Very, very basic but clean. However, the room had a mouldy smell probably from lack of airing.
Dinner and breakfast were buffet style with emphasis on local food. Do not expect fine dining here! Dinner was very filling with quite a good choice. Breakfast was very average.
This is a private resort on a public beach. The beach has always been known to locals as a breeding ground for sand flies so beware the very itchy sand fly bites! Unfortunately, this resort opens up its pool, shower facilities etc (at a very cheap entrance fee) to non-guests wishing to have access to the public beach.
Bicycles and kayaks are available for rental. Boat rides to the nearby islands may be arranged.
Do not come here for a luxurious holiday. If you want peace and quiet, don't check-in during school holidays, public holidays and weekends.

Had a great 2 day at SPBR, fantastic location and excellent staff. Friendly and efficient. The site is well maintained clean and tidy and anything washed up on the beach in the region of the resort is tidied up. The pool was clean, fresh and clear also maintained daily. Food was good and tasty and seating in the restaurant area plentiful both inside and out. As ever with coconut palms, beware if falling coconuts. It was great watching the many tiny Bubble sand crabs on the beach which is just a few steps away, recreate the beaches many coconut palms in sand patterns. Free Wi-fi is available in the main bar/restaurant area. A nice addition I think would be a pool/ billiard table. I will be happy to return on my next visit to Sarawak.

The beach is great for strolling and swimming, with delightful sunsets past the surrounding mountain range. And there is an infinity style pool right on the beach looking out to sea, suitable for children and adults. Dinner and breakfast tasty and included in room rates (I believe, our friends shouted us the trip). The room was fairly basic but all we needed and comfortable with air con. There's a games room, and comfortable family chalets. Great for a break and a relax in a pool by the sea.

We went to the resort with the idea of going to visit Talang – Talang Island ( a beautiful island nearby) based on the information given by the staff of the resort ( our initial booking) that the resort would provide transportation there.
We arrived kinda late after a long drive and checked in. The next day was when all the interesting things happened, and we were to really experience the best hospitality from this resort. We woke up early, had our breakfast and prepared to depart for Talang-Talang Island. When we approach the receptionist, she told us that there were no boats going to the island that day. She gave us all sorts of reasons, like the weather was bad, the driver for the boat wasn’t around etc etc.
We weren’t really sure how to define bad weather, as it was bright and sunny that day. There wasn’t even a dark let alone a gray cloud in sight. Of course we did not buy her story and demanded to see the manager. She directed us to the owner instead, who was at the café having his morning coffee. As we walked towards the café, we saw a man repairing a speedboat nearby.
We told the owner on how one of their staff promised to get us to Talang-Talang island in our initial booking. To our surprise, he told us off. He said he had no control of what his staff say and promise. He also told us that there was no contractual agreement of any sort when we checked in. At that point, we were still calm, so we asked him what were the actual difficulties in sending us over there at that point. Once again he used the same reason as the receptionist, the weather. We can see the beach from the café, the waves were less than a foot high, only to get a super ridiculous response from him that ‘no wave at the beach here, does not mean there is no wave at the beach on the other side’. Oh well, he must have some super power to see that far or maybe he was a descendant of Zhu GeLiang ( famous person in ancient China who can predict the weather).
To this point, we have had enough of this nonsense, we told him we will take our chances. He still refused to take us there with all sorts of funny excuses like there was no insurance, but we really made our stand point and wanted to go there. Finally he bucked and said that there was only one boat and the boat was under repair.
This was when we really could not take it anymore and demanded an apology from him to which not only he refused but he could not care less. We told him that this was really lousy service and we will tell all our friends about it.
Now here is the interesting part, he told us to broadcast it to everyone we know, including posting the events on the internet. He then boasted saying there are millions of people in Malaysia, and he just need everyone to visit his place once and he not only would have sustained his business but probably make a profit too.
So I’m granting his wish and posting the events here .
Here is also a quick summary of what you can do at the resort:
1) rent a kayak and paddle in the “dangerous sea” . Remember there is no insurance and this it the words of the owner
2) rent a bicycle to cycle in the carpark that parks 20 cars. Seriously, other than the car park there is no place to cycle
3) Rock climbing without any safety equipment, but then again the wall is only 1 ½ storey high, if you jump high enough u probably can reach the top already so why need safety equipment.
4) Stay in the room and watch TV. Mind you there is no cable. But you will be accompanied by sand flies and mosquitoes
5) Eat sub standard breakfast and dinner when you can easily get better food at the town nearby ( Sematan)
I strongly recommend this place to those who like to drive a long way out and just sit in their hotel room watch a small CRT TV. Or you can talk to the owner for live comedy. Or if you wish to see a small size tsunami of less than 1 foot high, you will probably catch it.
All comedy aside, it will be better for you to drive to the next sister town of Lundu. Stay in any accommodation there, there are nice beaches, natural park with waterfalls and definitely better service.

This place could really be a great place to stay at with its nice and calm location, infinite pool, beach etc. Unfortunately it lacks maintenance. For example we had to manually fill the tank of the toilet before flushing, walls was dirty and need new paint, some showers to the nice swimming pool was broken.
Ah, and one last thing, the beach, it's very nice but there's so much trash everywhere.
So, a bit of maintenance and a cleaned beach and I would've given a 4

This resort is NOT worth a single penny that I've paid for. Maintainance near Zero, swimming pool water is so so dirty, worries that my kid will get a skin infection after jumping in, colour of the water is almost green (full of algae). Resort itself is very run down. Don't expect much in the room, no toiletries and towels look dirty, bedsheets and blanket got stains. What you see on their website is not what you get. SUPER DISSAPOINTIING!!!!!!! Don't ever ever come to this resort, not worth the time -whole journey that took almost 2 hours from Kuching city.

Place was little hard to find as the address on tripadvisor was wrong, but friendly local boys on a motorcycle when ahead of us showing us the way, a well done for the locals! On arrival we quickly got our 3 rooms, each for 2 persons, as unfortunately the family chalets with beach view were outbooked. The rooms a very simple, I think over 30 years old, little dark and small. One room the tap was constantly dripping, 2 other rooms the AC was not properly working, but putting a little would helped the cool airflow working. The beach is really nice and you can work for hours if you want, the swimming pool was very nice, but good be kept cleaner. There is staff enough, and I am not sure if the water is kept clean enough. Dinner is good, you can eat as much as you like, but dont be too late or all the nice stuff is gone. Same for breakfast. Altogether an average place with wifi around reception, restaurant and swimming pool, With major renovations of the old buildings and keeping the place more tidy and clean and maybe putting some tree to have places of shade on the beach could turn this place into a more than 4 star experience. If they do, I certainly will come back.

They opened a new one nearer to Sematan village called Nomad Sematan Resort.
Pros: Its newer, more modern setting and large apartments with 3 rooms.
Cons: Have to travel a few KM to the main Palm Beach Resort
Quiet, beautiful water feature.
