The lad serving us was really friendly but from the menu to the table the ‘steak’ had managed to magically transform itself into a raw cold burger... so 10/10 for meal entertainment. For 10.0€ you could say its value for money but to put things into perspective; you can buy a McDonalds burger (cooked) with lettuce and decent chips for 3€..: For a 4,5 stars rated restaurant experience I was left rather underwhelmed.

It has old fashioned charm, and a wonderful warm welcome from the young couple who speak excellent English. The rooms were comfortable in the heart of a very pretty village. The evening meal was delicious. Our stay was quiet and peaceful, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The village is in the heart of mountains, served by the wonderful little railway from Nice. Superb walks straight from the village. All very clean and unspoilt.

Hotel Beausejour is a little on the rustic and quirky side. It appears to have only about 15 rooms, but we stayed in no. 43. There is an ancient curving staircase that climbs up the rooms and a narrow corridor with some zigs and zags and odd things tacked to the walls. It appears that several old houses have been linked together. Our room was small but fine - not much of a view except roofs of ancient houses. Food in the restaurant is pretty good, but not as excellent as a Logis usually provides. Staff very friendly and love to chat - if you can follow the local variant of French. The town is interesting and the tourist office can provide maps of an historic walk as well as a longer climb up the hills behind where there are pre-historic rock shelters and interesting rock formations. During our stay there was a "vide-grenier" in the square (a sort of flea market) and a display vintage racing cars that were part of a classic across-the-Alps event, so the place was very lively and fun. Annot has several little bars and restaurants and is really worthy of at least a couple of nights stay.

We found the village of Annot to be an excellent base to explore the area. Logis Beausejour located in the village centre was a gem. Our visit co-incided with the annual village fair in honour of Saint Fortunat. This was great fun with boules, rides, music, a parade and fireworks! The owners were very professional and showed us excellent hospitality. They offered to move us to a room at the back of the hotel if the noise of the fair was too much. But it didn't bother us too much. We had an enjoyable dinner of grilled salmon washed down with a 500ml bottle of burgundy, followed by apple tart. This was real comfort food. Next day the owner offered to drive us to the neighbouring village of Entrevaux if we missed the train. Fortunately we made it to the railway station in time. In all a happy visit to a happy village staying in a happy hotel.

Wow. This hotel was such a pleasant surprise. We were stuck without somewhere to stay on Saturday night and this was the only thing available in the area. We are so happy we stayed. The two rooms we used are large and comfortable as are the bathrooms. There are nice views over the surrounding hills. The receptionist was friendly and helpful too and spoke English which always helps as our French is poor. They definitely deserve more than the one star they currently have. Apparently the new owners are waiting to finish some improvements before they apply. It's a great deal in the meantime.
