Gill and I stayed for three nights at the end of September. We were made very welcome by the owners, whose hospitality was generous and thoughtful without being obtrusive. We enjoyed exploring the local area: walking on the trails in the woods and pastures. We also enjoyed the Chemin de Fer de Provence: a great way to arrive.

Room Tip: There's only one room, which is a spacious suite. It's a very old building but it has all...

The whole experience was wonderful. We were met at the train station and upon arriving at the house, it was as though we stepped back in time. The whole building and surrounds were just so rich in history, truly an experience for those who love history and culture. Despite being built in the 16th century, the house has been fitted with modern conveniences like heater and wifi. it is definitely not lacking in space either - we had a living room with billard table and TV area, kitchen with dining table as well as a bedroom and bathroom all to ourselves. The highlight was of course our lovely hosts, Jean-Louis and Nathalie, who made us feel comfortable and well taken care of. Jean-Louis is the 17th generation and his family has lived there since the house was built. Their private quarters are above ours and they were never intrusive. Breakfast was simply amazing! We were told it would be a surprise and it definitely was. There were only two of us but the spread was huge. Plus I had a big pot of hot chocolate! It was a pity we were only there for a night. I would definitely come back next time for a longer stay and try hiking (it's known for its hiking trails). It is a place you can come to relax and enjoy nature, a truly refreshing break from city life.

After booking, we received the advice to phone after we arrive in Annot. Having studied Goole maps and the internet I thought we can find the place on our own. The house and place were quickly found, but where are the doors in this tricky old town centre with a lot of passageways? Unfortunately I did not print out the photo with the doors from Internet. In the end we had to phone. A few minutes later a friendly gentleman appears and proudly shows us round the house. A few steps down from the entrance, trough an alley with stairs up and down, before entering the living room. Reality proves to be far better than internet. The house from the 16th century has seen the last major change in the 18th century, and surprisingly has preserved this character till today. All later improvements like water (after some time), electricity, and heating have been carried out with care over generations. What you will notice first on entering the living room, is the smell of wood smoke from the open fire place, followed by the Billiard table. Later you will notice the well worn tile floor and the rest of the furnishings. A kitchen sink is built in a wall cabinet behind the dining table. TV and WLAN are also available. Who can, may enjoy a billiard match ? The left door leads into the bathroom; the right is the entrance door. To get an impession of the old days prior to electricity, just light the oil lamp and some candles ... Even the wall of the shower has been made of ols tiles. The water taps and plug are art nouveau. There are so many details to discover: Different door loocks, window latch... Some steps lead from the living room to the sleeping room. Noticeable are the inside shutters, which you may know from castles. The door to the right leads trough the “visitors library” to a stairway, an alley, another stairway, before you enter the living and dining room of Nathalie & Jean-Louis. There you will enjoy a formidable breakfast ! Whoever is in the vicinity of Annot should not miss this great place. Many thanks for unforgettable impressions – it was like living in a museum ! We had a most enjoyable stay with Jean Louis and Nathalie in their amazing old home. They were very friendly and welcoming and helped us with a phone call to our next B and B. Our breakfasts were big and tasty in a lovely room upstairs with the sun coming in. They recommended a lovely restaurant for dinner where despite language difficulties were able to give me a lovely tasty gluten free meal. It was lovely to have our own little kitchen area with a jug and fridge. The bed was comfy and warm and the shower was hot. Altogether a wonderful experience.
