We stayed 4 nights. At first glance, one might think it lacking in polish because it isn't fancy, but we quickly came to appreciate the authentic and natural beauty of the place. Left in relatively original condition, the house is fascinating. The rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms are nicely updated. There is an abundance of original furniture, flooring and fixtures. Daniel is totally welcoming, helpful and friendly. He gave us lots of ideas on places to go, invited us to dinner the first night, and generally was host par excellence. He is super easy going and truly makes you feel like his home is open for you to enjoy. The town is very small so eating out in nearby towns was fun and Daniel will tell you the best places to go. We really enjoyed our stay at Louis DeGrave with Daniel. It was very special in a unique, personal way.

The place is very special : the house, the property, the owners and even the Belgian guest we met there. This is not a place for spoiled people. You won't find luxury but a nice warm, simple house which includes all you need to have a nice stay.

Daniel is an amaising host - he goes out of his ways to make you feel welcomed in his beautiful centures-old house, his home. I arrived with no reservations, late at night and still I have been accommodated and offered to share a dinner with a company of his lovely friends. The house is magnificent old family residence, bohemian, it ooses style, it feels home. Antique furniture and embroided metis sheets.
I would recommend this stay to anyone! - well perhaps not for small-minded mean pot-pourrie'd creature who wrote such terrible review for brave soul Mr Remon

There were no previous reviews for this B&B on TripAdvisor. Maybe we should have taken this as a warning. The website gives the impression of a residence of character, part of a vineyard and winery and the rooms looked lovely. We booked a 1 night B&B stay as we were due to move on to a Gite in the area. An evening meal was also on offer. However, on arrival it quickly became obvious that the establishment (and the owner) had seen better days. The owner (who is, unfortunately, partly disabled) was the sole occupant with no staff. We were apparently the only guests and there was no dinner available (although the owner did offer to book us a table at a restaurant in the next village). During the night there was a violent thunderstorm (by chance) and we were awoken to hear furniture being dragged across floors and footsteps around the main house (and only a 1" bolt on the door!). In the morning a basic breakfast was served on the patio and a few other guests appeared who had apparently arrived late at night! The whole chateau and surrounding grounds must have, at one time, been very impressive and grand but now were run-down. When, during the breakfast, the coffee machine in the kitchen exploded, we paid and left. We felt sorry for the owner, who was obviously struggling to keep the whole thing running. He was friendly, pleasant and willing to please and we were prepared to overlook some of the idiosyncratic features of the accommodation. But he seemed out of his depth. It gives me no pleasure to say that I would not recommend a stay here until things improve. I would also say that, having re-read the website description, it is not entirely accurate. On the plus side, we will remember that night for a long time and interestingly, a few days later, we ordered a bottle of his wine in a restaurant. It was excellent!

Response from REMON11, Propriétaire at Domaine Louis Degrave
Responded Sep 10, 2012
Dear Gomez and Morticia, I was quite surprised by the review you left of my Domaine Degrave on TripAdvisor as from memory, your extremely brief stay seemed to have gone well, but do let me correct a few factual details that you took the time to mention: * Evening meals are only ever served upon request/reservation and this is very clearly indicated on my site and in all promotional materials, for the simple reason that I only serve fresh, local produce. * Breakfast - included in the price of the room - always consists of 3 different types of bread, croissants, homemade jams, local honey, yoghurt, fresh fruit and juice along with tea and coffee. Most people would describe it as copious rather than basic, however, your description of an 'exploding coffee machine' is somewhat more accurate: the glass flask chose that very moment of your breakfast to crack into a million pieces… most messy and unfortunate and it has of course long since been replaced. * For the rather comical description of the late arrival - between 11:30 and midnight - of that evenings' other clients and their large suitcase in the midst of a major electrical storm, I can only offer my sincere apologies and say that steps - both ecumenical and pagan - have been taken to minimize this sort of disruption. As you also noted, I do much of the work at Domaine Degrave with a very small team and in spite of the handicap of only being able to use my right arm, I manage to run a successful and growing business, combining winemaking with tourism. I do thank you for the positive review of my wine and look forward to welcoming you here again… perhaps even with a flying left hand (à la Addams Family !) to better assist me. Yours Sincerely, Daniel REMON Domaine Louis Degrave
