Amsterdam, The Netherlands33 contributions24 helpful votes
We booked this B&B for a wedding of one of our friends. The estate is beautiful including unique rooms, a big swimming pool, parking, space for events and a view to the vineyards in the back. We flew from Amsterdam to Bordeaux arriving at 10pm to the airport and 11pm by the time we arrived to the B&B. The place was pitch black and the entire town and surroundings were dark. We were scared we wouldn't get in but finally decided to knock, waking the proprietor out of bed. She was very displeased with our late arrival which she mentioned several times to us while letting us in and showing us to our room. The following morning the proprietor left the premises between 10am - 3pm. Our friends arrived at 10.30 and had to wait hours before she returned in order to check in, it was just barely enough time for them to enter their room and get ready for the wedding we were all attending. When our friends informed the proprietor that they had confirmed their arrival time months prior and had been waiting she told them they should have booked the night before to ensure they didn't have any issues. The proprietor was otherwise very friendly and helpful but simply not flexible or readily available to her guests. If you book this lovely domaine keep in mind that you may arrive to shut premises and need to wait for a long time to have someone check you in. I suggest calling a day in advance to confirm your arrival time to ensure she is there for you.

The place is tricky to find as no signs at the front. The rooms are in a converted barn at the rear of the premises. Quaint, functional, clean. Nice open air breakfast in the morning. Well worth a visit.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel for 2 nights while we were exploring the chateaux in the Medoc region. We had a very large room on the ground floor with a couch, separate sleeping area, separate toilet and large bathroom with a walk in shower. The room was very comfortable. It was decorated with local antiques and some modern touches, such as the lighting. The bed was very comfortable. The shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The proprietor was very nice and friendly. Breakfast was included and featured a generous basket of breads and pastries. There was plenty of free parking, although it took us a while to find the parking lot, which was down a small road just next to the hotel. The hotel was located a short drive from Margaux and also very convenient to go to St. Julien or to eat at local restaurants like Le Lion D'Or -- maybe 15 minutes drive or so. Although I refer to it as a hotel, it actually seems more like a guesthouse than a formal hotel.
