First of all Im a very adventurous guy who's spent 2 years working and living out in Guyana's jungles with all the bugs and wild animals etc etc that that entails. This review is therefore written from that perspective rather than that of a typical whinging tourist.

Nothing eco or adventurous about the resort. The resort consists of an area open to the public by the main road (where the creek flows under it) as well as a private area behind a large fence and a camping ground on the other side of the lake.

I've driven past the public area many times which is not a bad place to lime and have a few beers, however it can get quite crowded, particularly on weekends and public holidays. The congestion is not helped by the local police stopping vehicles and hustling for "somet'ing fuh deh boys".

Admission to the resort itself during the day is quite cheal and you're allowed to bring your own food and drinks. That's the best way to make use of the facilities.

My girlfriend and I stayed for what we'd hoped would be a romantic weekend in the private area. We'd paid for an all inclusive package including transport from Georgetown, accommodation & meals - from memory it was around US$100 per person for 2 nights.

Accommodation at the resort was OK but needed to be cleaned more thoroughly. Was particularly impressed to find a collection of condom packets (thankfully unused!) in the bedside table.

Huge problems came at sunset though with the emergence of huge swarms of mosquitos from the lake - The room was absolutely infested with them and no bug spray was in the room. I ended up going for a walk to try and find a staff member but despite spending over half an hour walking all around the resort and rapping on doors absolutely no staff could be found. The amount of bugs in the room was so bad that if I'd had my own car or been able to call a taxi my gf & I would have left on the spot. Instead we were forced to hunker down beneath the sheets for the night. The next day we managed to acquire some bug spray and after liberally gassing the room we had a reasonable night.

The beaches and lakeside were reasonably picturesque but unimpressive on the whole. Overall the setting makes for a nice place to have a drink during the day and look out over the water but the water itself in the lake was full of slime and weeds and particularly uninviting for swimming. However at sunset you need to cover up or retire indoors before the mosquitos exsanguinate you.

Meals provided at the resort were typical atrocious Guyanese food: greasy chow mein noodles slathered in oil or fried chicken and awful cook up rice. Quality of the food was absolutely unacceptable and barely edible. Thankfully drinks at the bar were cheap (thank god for El Dorado Rum & Coke!!!) but the bar closed just after sunset leaving you to stock up and retire to your room.

Overall - come for the day but bring your own food and drinks. Don't stay overnight and definitely don't eat here.

Let´s begin with what is good. They have a sand beach by the river (downstream from a free public beach) The beach looks clean and safe for children. They also have small huts with shade, where families can bring their own food and drink. There is an entrance fee of 1.000 Guyana Dollars per person.

As i understand it, they have been in business for several years, yet the place is far from ready to receive guests.Unfinished constructions everywhere, poor bar and even poorer restaurant. Maybe it started with a grand dream of something good, but without putting money into the resort the dream will of course never come true.

I am not sure what this resort will look like in a couple of years because there seemed to be a lot of construction of private homes surrounding the resort. Sometimes it was hard to figure out which parts belonged to the hotel.

I was there with a group for a training and the resort served our purpose:

There was a good-size seminar room for the gathering.
The dining area was close-by, and just around was the kitchen.
Food was pretty tasty (though dinner was only fried food!) and the service was good. The sitting area for dining was a bit crowded. It looked like they previously had a bigger bar-restaurant area, which seemed abandoned at present.

The lake and beachfront looked clean and many cabins close-by allowed sitting and relaxing. There was also a boardwalk around that went passing private homes. There was plenty of space to walk around.

There was a bar with music (though too loud) in the vicinity.

Boat rides were also available and swimming seemed safe.

The room I had was clean, comfortable, had all the basic amenities plus tea & coffee with a water boiler. A/C functioned well.

One could hear loud music from the neighborhood late into the night (as is always case in many places in Guyana), but with A/C on it was not difficult to fall asleep.

This resort could also be reached by public transport.

I would like to come here sometime.

First off, I live in New York and was visiting Guyana with my family after 11 years. One day on our trip we decided to visit splashmin's adventure park after a great deal of positive feedback from staff at our hotel. My family and I are big swimming fanatics so we figured splashmin might have been an enjoyable activity for us on a nice afternoon. Our party consisted of 10 individuals in which each of us had to pay an entrance fee. Once we changed our clothes and began swimming we noticed that the designated swimming area was 5ft high! I mean for a guy that is 6 feet tall that would pose as an issue for a true swimmer (who swims in such shallow water anyway?!). After being truly disappointed by the swimming area we decided to speak with a manger to inquire about possibly being allowed to swim past the designated swimming area (in which there was a barrier in which the water was deeper on the other side). The manager explicitly said no. At this point, (not even 15 minutes into our visit) we decided that we wanted to exit the facility. We requested a refund so we could leave and make the most of our afternoon. At this point the manager refused any type of refund and was UNABLE to accommodate us in any manner. He was rude and disrespectful. He even walked away from us at one point. We asked to speak to someone above the manager and another staff member called the owner of splashmin and explained the situation to him in hopes to assist us with finding a solution. The owner HUNG up!!!!! I mean if this doesn't explain the professionalism of splashmin I don't know what does?! It was a miserable waste of time and waste of my precious vacation time. I would recommend researching it's services before visiting (however they failed to mention that the swimming area is 5ft high). Overall, for an individual traveling overseas splashmin was unwelcoming and a poor representation of Guyana's tourist attractions.

My family and I visited Splashmin for one day, during my holiday vacation to Guyana from Dec 2011 to Jan 2012. We did not stay at the hotel, but we enjoyed the beach, the benabs, the music, the nature walks, the mini-beach store, and the bar! The place is absolutely beautiful! The next time, I'll definitely stay at the hotel, and dine at the restaurant! You have to visit this place, if you go to Guyana!

Visited the resort for a specially organized weekend for couples which was poorly planned. The design of the room was flawed, no hot water, poor plumbing, smelly toilet. Food wasn’t fantastic. Not many activities offered for a “resort”. Definitely won’t visit again. Scenery however wasn’t bad - probably because this is nature’s doing and not man.

This resort is big & impressive. The inner section costs $500 GYD for adults & $350 GYD for kids aged 4-10yrs old. It has an area outside that is free & OK to use too.
The 2 outer edges of the water each have about 5 wooden seated hut structures, with a double layering of hard concrete like rocks, which you need to step through & off to get into the water or back on to the sand. For non -locals like me, this proved tricky when going bare foot as you can't see all the rocks below in the water & you hurt your feet stepping on the rough edges.
The water itself apart from being warm-ish on the sand side of the huts, it is quite cold in the centre as the Mahica river flows through. Later in the day, the water gets more colder.
The water is an impressive red colour at the edges & black colour in the centre, it is a lovely sight to behold. It is like the water has been tipped in tea. The water is about 4 feet high in the centre.
Criticisms of this nice place are:-,1) the water is littered in discarded cans, bottles & bottle tops which you tread on, as you can't see them in the water. 2) The sand has plenty of broken bottle glass fragments on it, not particularly safe. 3) The paying toilets have no toilet paper in any of them. 4) There is no sink or soap too wash your hand, & considering alot of people eat there, it is not good hygienically.5) My biggest annoyance was the locals whom we had the unlucky pleasure of having 3 separate cars with massive loud speakers / ghetto blasters in the boot, trying to out do each other with loud, crap music, which they inflicted on everyone. There is no-one to tell them off. The only staff I found where the car park & toilet attendants & they weren't concerned about the music being deafeningly loud more than a aeroplane, the glass in the glass in the water or sand or the toilet facilities.
This place does have lovely yellow bird of paradise plants & some parts still have white sand.
You can fish here, best around 7 a.m. but not much after 9 a.m. as too many people around & to much noise scare the fish away.
There is no food outlets on site or in walking distance nearby, so bring your own stuff. Alcohol is allowed judging by the number of glass bottles & cans left dumped & those to lazy to walk to the toilets seem to see no problem with weeing in the sand, so a good shower is recommended when you get back home / hotel.
Otherwise enjoy your visit.

We were there with a large group and they had problems with many rooms. Our room door took 4 hrs to fix so that we could get in; then a leak from room above. They were in our room for another 3 hrs on that one. Several other rooms had problems; they even took 2 TV's out of rooms to move them to other rooms. Rooms were good size for the most part and we did have warm to hot water which was nice.
They do have a sandy "beach" with black water and when you got out you felt like you needed to get clean.
They have wifi but it was not very good. They had a pool table which was broken and a pingball table-the net was a 2x4 board but no equiptment around.
They have food but you do have to pay for it and it was okay. They had fresh fruit daily and there was a small bar.
Lots of new homes being built. Talked with someone who owns one and this area is for people from Georgetown to come to relax on the weekends.

It doesn't have any sports. The place is just a quiet spot to relax, nothing thrilling that teenagers would enjoy.
