Iguana Crossing has garnered attention for its stunning beachfront location and amenities such as the pool and bike rentals, although the limited number of beach chairs and the water-conservation showers have not gone unnoticed. While the service receives mixed reviews, with some guests finding the staff welcoming and others perceiving a lack of vigor, the hotel's cleanliness typically earns high marks. The spacious rooms with their impressive views are a highlight, despite some missing conveniences. Opinions on value are divided, with some questioning the cost relative to the services provided.

Iguana Crossing hotel on Isabella is beautiful. The location is amazing. At the end of the Main Street (which is made of compacted sand) in town is right across the street from the beach and the entrance to the park where you can see marine iguanas, giant tortoises and lots of water birds and sea lions.

The rooms are clean and contemporary. The resturant is excellent - easily the best meal We ate in the Galapagos was there. It was delish and we preordered the night before so when we sat down there was very limited time between when we got our drinks and our appetizers arrived.

That said, a few things to be aware of if you are traveling there.

1. Everything in the hotel is geared toward conservation so The showers only give 8 seconds of water per push on the button, so just know that going in. No long, warm showers after a day in the ocean.

2. This island has about 8,000 people living on it and limited services. The Wifi was down on the whole island the entire time we were there.

3. We had a problem with our AC not working and it was around 85-100% humidity and a low temp of maybe 80 the entire time we were there so that was a little rough at first, BUT they did give us a portable AC unit to compensate which worked well. It was loud and took up some space in the room but it kept it comfortable:

All this said, the reason I give this hotel 5 stars was the service. In particular, there was an employee named Oscar who went above and beyond to take care of us. He provided quick alternatives when the AC wasn’t working, he helped us make dinner reservations and was the one to suggest we preorder our meals. He was also very informed about the menu and mad great recommendations when we asked. He also offered to move us to another room on our second night that had working wall AC. We opted not to move only because the mobile unit was working and it was just a hassle to unpack and repack. Finally, when I went to pay the final bill there was a problem because without Wifi or satellite they didn’t have a way to process my credit card. Oscar figured out a way to do it once the systems came back online and without delaying my departure the following morning, which was early.

I travel a ton. Things go wrong. Especially when you are in a part of the world that doesn’t have 1st world services. What sets a bad experience apart from a good experience is how the staff responds. I could not have asked for more from Oscar. He did an incredible job for us and Iguana Crossing is lucky to have him as an employee representing their brand. Kudos to Oscar. He turned what could have been a miserable experience into a great one.

Dear Guest We are very proud of our capable, profesional, but above all helpful staff, our mission is to make our guest feel as confortable as possible and to have a great unforgettable stay, so we are aware that beyond the location, the great views and accomodations, it is the service and restaurante staff what makes this hotel what is it, the best on the island. The location of the Iguana Crossing hotel is ideal, it is a short walk across a sandy road to the beach and a ten minute walk into Puerto Villamil. The service provided by Paula, Oscar, and Cece was incredible: they were gracious, helpful, and congenial. Our accommodations were cozy, comfortable beds, sparkling clean rooms with ocean views. The bilingual staff made delicious omelettes, along with a diverse choice of fresh fruit, juices and breads for breakfast. The manager/owner, Pedro, was always around and helped us arrange a few excursions.

Family run hotel on the beach on the edge of Puerto Villamil, location could not be better, quiet location right next to the turtle sanctuary, the beach and the start of the roads to the Wall of Tears walk and Sierra Negra Volcano.

The rooms are large, well laid out, have ample storage, great air conditioning and the 24 hour supply of complimentary coffee in the bar leaves nothing missing, the showers whilst a little fiddly do deliver unlimited hot water with really decent pressure.

The views over the beach are spectacular, the pool is essential for the hot middle of the day and the bar has a good number of food option, the hotel whilst away from town is a 5 minute walk to 10-15 decent places to eat.

The breakfasts were excellent with a selection of cereals, juices, fruits, European and American breakfast options, the quality of the breakfast was excellent, even our picky 9 year old left well fed each morning.

The real quality of this hotel is however its people who are extremely helpful, this led to guests interacting more than is normal in Latin America. Would you trust this hotel with a segment of your a trip of a lifetime?

Yes

If staying on Isabella, this is the best option by a distance.

I chose this hotel based on apparently great reviews so I’m seriously wondering if other guests stayed somewhere else. It’s really dated, heavy brown furniture, really poor WiFi, no atmosphere, musty, dank and so loud due to all the A/C units on all the time. Thank God I had brought ear plugs to sleep as the A/C noise from other rooms is relentless all night. The view is amazing but that’s down to Mother Nature, not the hotel. The breakfast is an odd affair with very little choice - bad coffee, 2 juices, sliced cheese in wrappers, one choice of white bread, cornflakes, muesli, an egg station with nobody cooking (after 15 minutes a sulky girl arrived), one limp pancake up for grabs..you get the impression, and not what you’d expect for $300 a night! And that’s the problem with this hotel, very very expensive but nothing to back it up. At least they could put on a good breakfast but no, probably could not be even bothered as the customer service is non-existent (but that’s a general issue across Ecuador, not just here). Save yourself a small fortune and stay somewhere else!

Nice looking place but don't expect luxury.

We stayed at the Iguana Crossing for one night and the next day my travel buddy discovered a swarm of ants in her bed. I looked at the my own bed and it was obvious that my sheets weren't changed from the last occupant. The lady at the front desk told me that due to the low season, the hotel only have half the housekeeping staff so not every room is cleaned.

I complained to management through our tour company and was told that we probably bought food into our bed.

Let's see travels between the Galapagos Islands are highly regulated, therefore bring food from one island to another is next to impossible. We got into Isabela from Santa Cruz at around 10-ish and had just about enough time to drop off our luggage before going to the tunnels at 11am. Therefore, we couldn't have bought food in. We didn't get back until 4pm and went straight to dinner, which means 7pm was the earliest we got into our room. a colony of ants simply doesn't happen that fast.

Apart from the ants, the hotel staff was very nice and the shower only stays on for a few seconds so you hyave to keep pushing the button to get water.

Having said that Isabela is a beautiful island and I'll probably go back there to explore some more. Except next time, I will be wise enough to stay somewhere else instead.

The hotel is nice and the view is magnificent. We had some delays, and missed our first night because there were no boat transfers in the evening over to Isabela Island and the hotel was unable to give us a refund for the night we missed, but I guess that is pretty standard. We found the room to be clean in general with decent linens. But we had issues with ants on our vanity and in the corner of the room, and also a massive spider that was right next to our bed (see picture). We didn’t realize bugs would be such an issue in a nicer hotel like this (especially in the upgraded suite option). The breakfast was very good and complimentary- and the food overall was pretty decent. Drinks were fairly expensive- ranging from $9-$24 for one mixed drink. Lots of kids here (loud at pool and jacuzzi right next to our room) at the time so it wasn’t really a great compliment to our honeymoon, but a good spot for families. Remember that in the Galapagos you cannot drink the water or use it to brush your teeth so they leave a pitcher of water. They also ask you to not flush any toilet paper at all. Jacuzzi was only “open” until 7 which we found disappointing, and the area where they keep the water (for drinking) was locked after hours. The hotel staff was nice enough but always felt like you were bothering them when asking for food/drinks.

One of my favorite hotels I've ever been to. It's not a 5 star opulent place, but we liked it just as much as Golden Bay in San Cristobal, for drastically different reasons. It fits the soul of Isabela Island perfectly. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The location is just stunning, at the very end of the main dirt road, bordering the National Park on the beach. It feels like the end of the world in every great way imaginable. We just pray it never changes. We couldn't have felt any safer and it's perfectly positioned for the authentic, local experience that only can be found on Isabela. It's a few steps away from Beto's Beach Bar and a short walk from the "downtown". The pool is fantastic. The rooms are very clean and the breakfast was just what we needed. The Junior Suite was the best room in the house. The Master Suite is just the same except with a little more floor space. Junior Suite has a great balcony with views of the beach and down the stretch of national park. The rooms on the backside have smaller windows and no real view to speak of, so I would recommend paying a little extra for the front. Whether you normally stay in low key places or the highest of high end properties, Iguana Crossing will still feel perfect to you.

We stayed here for 2 nights and we were in the best room of the hotel, the master suite! Being the off season and the pandemic helped to get us this room and there were also less people in the hotel. The view of the ocean was breathtaking from our room, and we could actually see iguanas crossing the street from the beach to their sanctuary lagoon next to our hotel! And yes the Wi-Fi is mostly accessible only in the lobby, and to use the shower you need to press the button every few seconds for water to flow! But overall, we did enjoy our stay at this hotel.

We stayed 2 nights in Quito, San Cristobal, Santa Cruz and Isabela islands and this was the only hotel where the employees didn't wear masks [our entire 2 day stay]! Though we didn't get Covid and were able to return to the US as scheduled but this made us nervous, seeing people without masks while everywhere else we went in Ecuador/Galapagos, there was 100% compliance of all CDC recommendations.

I came across this hotel when I was first researching, and had my heart set on staying here. After finding it to be booked online, I contacted them directly and was happy to find out they could fit us in. Because of this, I likely paid more than I should have, which definitely influenced my feeling that it just isn't worth the cost. The hotel IS beautiful, and is in an awesome location - directly on an amazing beach and at the edge of town. We were upgraded to a better room (they were hosting a beach tennis tournament, and were shuffling people around to accommodate), and were lucky to have great views, and did not have the push-button shower (although 90% of our showers did not have hot water). All of the extras, however, were lacking. The restaurant was usually empty, however we were told we needed to either make reservations or order in advance. One evening when we asked about the hot tub, we were told they needed to turn it on (and acted like it was a big deal), and then told we needed to be out by 7pm (we saw others from the tennis tournament using it later that evening). The pool furniture was usually not out, so the beds that look so inviting weren't an option on the day we had some extra time for the pool. They do not offer transport to/from the pier (although they did have a taxi ready for us for an early ferry). Overall, it is a very pretty property, but just not worth the price.

After researching hotels and tours on Isabela, we booked the 5 day / 4 night package with Iguana Crossing. Their package included everything we wanted to do and it was really convenient for our family to have all the tours planned out and paid for ahead of time.

The hotel is beautiful and the beach views are incredible. We loved watching the marine iguanas on the beach across the street and walking to the flamingo lagoon. The location was en easy walk into town. The tours that they scheduled for us were all great and logistics were easy as all pickups were arranged for us. The snorkeling tours were shared but the others were private for our family. Service at the hotel was great, food was really good, and it was overall a fantastic place to stay. We loved our time on Isabela and at Iguana Crossing!

Plane ride is the way to go, even inspite of the fact ours/to Isabella/ needed maintenance before we took off! I am afraid of heights: but , after that crappy ferry ride/packed in like sardines/on a 40th Anniversary vacay...worse scenario/I’d happily go down in a plane. #justsaying

No. It is a hotel and has a number of services. Breakfast was included in our package. The description of "boutique hotel" at a beautiful location is perhaps the most correct.
