We returned to this peaceful and spot after an initial visit last year which was too short. Craig is an ideal host with attention to detail. He was also very helpful when we left some stuff behind. The top unit has been upgraded and is very comfortable with absolutely everything you need and tons of space. Brilliant views. There are...

We rented out the entire place for 12 people this past weekend for my friends birthday party and at first we're pleased with the house and its location. This was until the owner decided that the day after we arrived and went out for a surf and a hike, that it would be acceptable to go into the house while...

On our arrival we saw our names on the check-in whiteboard, how typically kiwi. The 2bedroom unit which took most of the upstairs was epic, with kitchen/dining room and a massive lounge with chairs, sofas and a wood burner. The owner was friendly and very accommodating. The area was so peaceful except the baaaing of sheep and the odd squaak...

This is a place you will remember, simply because it is different from your normal motel accommodation. All the facilities are there and are perfectly fine, but it is the ambience that is memorable - it's a little quirky. The "office" is a little box out on the ground floor deck where you'll make your payment. There's a nice touch...

Excellent accommodation located near to Curio and Porpoise Bays. Very quiet and peaceful setting with lovely views over the sea with mountains beyond. Stayed here overnight with my sister on a weekend trip to The Catlins. The room is a well appointed studio flat, with sufficient kitchen facilities to make a decent breakfast and packed lunch. Good powerful shower and...

A house situated on the slope of a hill overlooking an inlet. Two units upstairs, two units downstairs. The two of us were in one of the downstairs units which is set up like a bedsit. Adequate kitchen, spacious bathroom with excellent shower, couple of sitting chairs, TV and comfortable bed. Small table and 2 chairs outside where we sat...

The Anchorage is a largish house which has been converted into 4 units, with some kitchen facilities and comfortable chairs. Nothing fancy. And Waikawa? Well it is a backwater with little amenity just a few Km's up the road from the top spot of Curio Bay in the Catlins, where all the accommodation is booked out. Things are so quiet...

Surprisingly comfortable with one of the best beds we have slept in! Despite its remote location, it has all the facilities we needed. The kitchen has basic amenities with the water collected from the bathroom next door, but more than adequate for making breakfasts and packed lunches. There are good options in easy driving distance for take away or café...

Driving from Invercargill in the late February afternoon through the Catlins, we were getting desperate to find a hotel or B&B, as they seemed few and far beween and generally fully booked. We found The Anchorage after a rather long-winded sequence of enquiries via a Quarry Hills pub and the local, quirky Waikawa museum - and what a great find...

We originally wanted to stay at Catlins Farmstay but they were full so June kindly helped us book this place which worked out perfectly as we were the only ones in the house and it was a fairly quick drive to Curio Bay where we wanted to see the yellow-eyed penguins. This is a self-contained apartment style accommodation, there are...
