Creta Maris Resort captivates guests with its charming, traditional Greek village atmosphere, although opinions on the entertainment offered are varied. While the extensive amenities, including a variety of dining options, pools, a private beach, and a well-regarded spa, earn high marks, some guests feel the prices for services and drinks do not always represent good value.
The resort is generally celebrated for its cleanliness and convenient location close to town. However, guests have mixed feelings about the rooms and service, citing issues with maintenance and inconsistency.

Detailed Reviews
Recently returned from a 9 day stay at the Creta Maris ages 8-55 and safe to say there was something for everyone!
The hotel has taken due care to ensure that covid precautions were taken with all staff wearing PPE and hand sanitisers scattered around communal areas as well as a complimentary small bottle for you to keep with you (nice touch).
The staff were super friendly and very happy to do what they can to help you enjoy your stay. On arrival we had an issue with the rooms that were allocated, after speaking with the receptionist they were good enough to move us from rooms that overlooked a neighbouring noisy hotel to rooms that had a small sea view...so can't moan too much!
We spent most of our time at the pool by the Kourites bar as the day time entertainment as well as the water park were located in this area. Plenty of sunbeds and lots of space to ensure you're not on top of each other.
The BBQ and Italian restaurant were super tasty, the Greek one was a little strange and had an interesting menu, but still good quality food.
Would I stay here again... yes! However, that would be based on the current prices. For the cost that we were quoted for next year on the Jet2 website we could head out to Mexico and spend 2 weeks down on the Riviera Maya.

We arrived on the 3rd of July and we will spend two weeks in the wonderful Creta Maris. Despite the difficulties, the hotel provides the same quality of hospitality and comfort, as during the past years. This is our 7th holiday here. We feel very safe (safer than at home). All the staff members wear masks and gloves, we are not required to wear them, but the necessary circumstances for total social distance are provided in every part of the hotel. Even on the beach, the sunbeds are far enough from each other, and they are disinfected after each use. There is no free buffet, but you can walk around in the main restaurant and you jus point out the meals, the waiters behind the counters put them on a plate for you. Smaller salads and starters are wrapped (also bread and bakeries), jams and olive oils are offered in small bottles. In two restaurants (Cochlias and Almyra) you can choose among 4 a la carte dinners: Italian, barbecue, cretan and greek. The foods are amazing (as always)!
Thanks for the amazingly helpful staff we can forget all the negative experiences of this year, meanwhile, our safety is provided continuously. However, we were thinking about whether to come or not, it was a perfect decision to spend our holiday here in our favourite hotel.
Thank you for those who make these days even more memorable, for those who are working in the Creta Maris and who became our friends during the past years: Caterina, Tenia, Manolis and Manos from the reception group - we can't wait to hug you again! And we are thankful for the always smiling waiters, baristas and maids, and every member of the staff! You make our days beautiful <3

+1
We travelled in August 2020, after several other holidays were cancelled due to Covid-19.
This hotel put us at ease immediately as they are always cleaning and keeping their distance, and they’ve really thought of everything they can to maintain social distancing without impacting our holiday.
We didn’t venture outside of the resort because of coronavirus, so can’t comment on anything local.
We are a family of four with two young children (2 & 5) and there is something for everyone at this hotel.
OUR ROOM
We booked a Sea View Suite and it was immaculate with beautiful views of the main pool and beach.
The beds are very comfortable and lots of room for us all.
FOOD
Our children are not the most adventurous of eaters, but there was always something to keep them happy. And for myself and my husband who like to try local food. There are several restaurants - the views from the Italian and the BBQ were fantastic, and the food in the Greek was out of this world. My husband said his chicken dish was one of his favourites ever. But even the food at the buffet and snack bars was nice.
FACILITIES
We spent most days at the waterpark pool, open 10-6pm so there was no need to rush for a sun lounger! My only warning is they’re quite strict that children must be 120cm high to ride the slides, so we saw lots of children turned away. Our 5 year old is tall so just hit the mark!
The beach is beautiful with soft sand and turquoise waters, and very very clean. Both on the beach and at the main pool people secure sun beds early, so you’ll have to be quick if you want one!
They have a roped off area on the beach for sea turtles nesting which was lovely to see.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming.
We will definitely return with different groups as there really is something for everyone here. We couldn’t fault anything!!

We visited for a week towards end of August from the UK. Highly highly recommend this all inclusive resort. V good value for money and amongst the best resorts I have visited across 20 odd countries.
We received the warmest of greetings on arrival after 11 pm by Manolis Petrakis at Reception and being taken to our rooms by Vassilis. Dinner was arranged in the French restaurant which was so nice and I gobbled up some good pasta and fries.
Highlights were
—Excellent, clean sandy beach and lot of sun beds on beach, around pools etc.
—Brilliant choice of restaurants, easy to book each morning
—Popi the waitress in the main Cosmos restaurant was so attentive quick and smiling while dealing with every request
—The Cretan restaurant was v nice, delicious aubergine dishes, nice burgers, great sea bream and mouth watering deserts. Both managers were v good and Olga was v considerate and hospitable to attend to all our requests.
—Katerina at the front desk was more than Outstanding in effective dispensation of all requests.
—All the front office staff were v good at the minimum.
—The drinks served at the beach bars were quick, nice and from a more than adequate menu.
—Dimitris the waiter and Niklas the manager were v attentive at the Greek restaurant Almyra.
—We had good dinners at the Italian and Barbecue restaurants in Cochlias.... breathtaking views overlooking the Aegean Sea
—The Aegeos Spa was nice and clean where Julia from Belarus provided our family 4 excellent massage treatments...much needed for all of us after running and swimming etc.
—The resort arranged big screen Champions league final viewing.
— The hotel beach is hardly 5 minutes walk from the village center of Hersonissos which has lot of eating, water sports, souvenir and entertainment places.
—-The best hospitality staff at all bars, restaurants and hotel reception with a smile was the most notable feature of this resort. Left yesterday but would be glad to come back again in next year or two.
—Although on holiday, I saw a conference center at the resort.., might be good for conferences too.
Points to improve upon—
1. There should be more directed boards towards different views amphitheater, water park, steki bar. The resort is over 3 levels and it takes people time to get to know locations.
2. Towel changes should be allowed twice a day, once in morning and once in evening.
3. As this is a family resort English TV channels for entertainment would be a great value add and essential perhaps. CNN, BBC and Bloomberg are available as business channels.

After coming to Creta Maris for years, it was an easy decision for our family to go back to Crete this summer even in current times. After having spent ten wonderful days in the hotel we'd like to use this opportunity to express praise for the absolutely great service we experienced this year once more.
The staff of the hotel did a perfect job with regard to handling all necessary requirements for this rather complex season, even though occupancy was just around 20% during our stay.
To give all the people who are planning to come to Greece this summer a little overview of the situation there we'd like to go into detail a little more concerning current safety measures and protocols.
First of all you are not required to wear a mask throughout the hotel. Staff is wearing masks any given time, but for you as a guest it is no mandatory to wear a mask throughout your stay. This generally counts for most other parts of the island (i.e. Shops) as well.
When you arrive at Creta Maris, you will not be presented with a regular buffet this year, there is a buffet, but anything you'd like is served directly by the staff behind it in order to avoid contact with things like food tongs. Drinks will also be brought to your table by the staff around the restaurant.
Sunbeds around the pool are aligned to maintain a maximum of two sunbeds under each umbrella and 2.0m distance to the next pair of sunbeds (keep in mind that you are allowed to use more than two sunbeds at once, if you are travelling as a family).
To sum this up, you can expect social distancing measures in any are of the hotel, which are held in place by stickers and arrows on the floor and of course the staff around the hotel. Also a huge number of so called "Sanitizing Stations" have been set up.
From our point of view, holidays in Creta Maris are as safe as they can be and you can expect a clean, well prepared and highly guest caring hotel when planning your stay. We believe that they are doing a perfect job with regard to keeping all of the required safety measures in Creta Maris.
Special thanks to Albert Gega, George Kourinas and Manolis Geronimakis for making every wish possible and always welcoming us with a smile.
Also many commendations to Karolina, Maria and Andrea from the animation team for their great job with regard to the animation program in current times and the very nice conversations.

What an amazing hotel… where do I start
Firstly, the arrival/check in was swift and everyone in the hotel is very COVID aware. Masks on all staff sanitizer at most if not all entrances/exits
The room is spotless and spacious including a fridge to keep water (which is replaced daily) chilled. Even providing our own sanitizer in the room for us
Secondly, the food is excellent, you are spoiled for choice with how many restaurants there are and variety of food on offer. If you’ve a fussy eater travelling with you, they will definitely find something they like to eat. In all restaurants it’s compulsory to wear your mask to & from your table and also when approaching the buffets. The hotel have also provided plastic gloves to avoid cross contamination on handling if serving spoons etc
All pool areas are kept clean and tidy and the activities/animation team are non stop, so you won’t get bored.
Finally, the spa…….. I had an anti stress masssge and boy did I need it. It was fabulous. Efi, the therapist, did a fantastic job in helping me relax into my holiday
If you only do one thing this summer, it should be visit here!!

We have just returned from a 7 night stay and really enjoyed our stay. The ‘family one bedroom’ bungalow rooms are more spacious than the website photos convey. I recommend the bungalows for families, as they are close enough to the waterpark and main hotel.
The location of the beach is right next to the main pool, you just walk on to it, not even a minute away!
The portions in the A la carte restaurants are huge and the food is excellent. I would say the food was outstanding in all. The desserts especially a highlight! We realised towards the end of our stay instead of a quick lunch at the waterpark, the restaurant at the main pool is delicious and very indulgent for lunch.
There are numerous cocktails and so many drinks included in the all inclusive you can’t do without anything, my husband even got me a Pimms which wasn’t on the menu. The frozen chocolate milk at the water park is also delicious too.
The hotel has a very relaxed, chilled out vibe so you immediately sink into holiday mode on arrival.
My favourite part of the holiday was the aqua gym classes. One of the instructors, Andrea is so enthusiastic, she had a wonderful smile throughout the classes, even in 30 degree heat! I have no idea how she managed to be so energetic but it was contagious and made you feel a world away from stresses of life and escape into holiday bliss! Big shout out to her for making the holiday so special for me. After months of stressful homeschooling and Covid anxiety she really made a difference to my holiday.
My children also loved the friendly receptionist called Manolis who was teaching them all about Greek myths and was extremely accommodating to our needs during our stay. Kostas was also very good to us.
The hotel has an enormous outdoor cinema. We didn’t watch a film but was worth going to just see it, as it was quite impressive.
Covid 19 was handled marvellously.
Waterpark is fabulous.
The sea was warm and snorkelling was a great surprise for us to see lots of fish near the cliffs.
Only things I can think of for improvements is that there was often a beeping buggy car that came past our room early some mornings and woke us up.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this resort to families and ones that like a dessert. I almost forgot to review my favourite dessert! The filo pastry custard cream, it was served hot in the Cretan al la Carte. I should know as have tried every dessert there, hence the aqua classes are great!

We stayed here for a week over Easter as a family with 11 year old twins.
We'd booked a one bedroom family room which I tried to change before we arrive thinking it'd be too small but it exceeded our expectations. It was basically 2 big rooms, one with single day beds, one with singles pushed together, a short area between with large fitted wardrobes (about 12 coat hangers), 2 full bathrooms, a balcony. The room had a small fridge, ironing board and iron, chairs and coffee table, desk, 4 pool towels (which you can use for the beach too and exchange daily), toiletries (refreshed when used), safe, kettle, 2 x 1.5l bottles of mineral water (refreshed daily), mini fizzy drinks (not refreshed) ie..plenty!! The room was serviced daily and towels changed, beds every 2 days. The only tiny criticism was the cockrel woke me up v early every morning crowing...but I'm a light sleeper.
The hotel complex is vast, like a mini village. There are lots of pools so we found plenty of space to sit, all had excellent toilets close by, snack or drink bars close to many. The pools were fairly empty as not heated and very cold, apart from the indoor one.
We were unable to play tennis as it was always booked. We played mini golf which was in dreadful condition and needs total refurbishment, ping-pong when we could get the bats (very popular so rare), pool and airhockey in the arcades. We watched some entertainment (circus, Greek dancing, other dance) which was OK, the room was much too small for the crowds wanting to see. The cinema wasn't open yet (think it's June). Pedalo from beach outside €30 p/h, jetskis and paddleboarding available too. Sunbeds and little tables on the beach but it was very shale/sharp sans, not lovely to walk on, sandcastles impossible.
Bus stop, mini land train, taxis easily accessible outside.
Across the road is a little "organic farm" with 2 donkeys, 2 pigs, chickens and a cockrel. I was very sad for them as although they looked in decent condition their living standards were well below what we'd find acceptable in the UK. Please take a few minutes to visit them and take them an apple each.
Parts of the hotel are a bit steep and those with mobility issues may struggle in sections, although there are ramps and routes without steps, so if in an electrical wheelchair it'd be fine.
Food and drink was very very good. I'm vegetarian and there was always a good variety, plenty of choice for everyone and decent themed nights eg Mexican, Indian, Mediterranean. Water, coffee, beer, wine, mocktails, cocktails, icecream, snacks. All exceeded my expectations and seemed to be consumed responsibly (no loutish drunk behaviour).
I think that's enough detail

Creta Maris Beach Resort is located in Hersonissos and in general it is a great place for a perfect family vacation in Crete.
I'll start with some Pros/Cons...
Pros:
Only 25 minutes drive from Heraklion airport
The staff are amazing, really, all of them are very nice and always eager to help and willing to give you the best service possible so the feeling is amazing!
The resort is big and spoiling, beautiful nature and stunning views.
Room service on a daily basis to clean your room.
The food in the main restaurant and in the "book a table restaurant" is absolutely amazing, with lot's of variety to choose from and everything is very tasty!
The gym is well equipped and the trainee is very professional
The Aegeo SPA is amazing, a bit expensive but offer variety of nice treatments, I strongly suggest to go to Sofia, she booked us 4 different treatments exactly to our body needs, gave us some free samples from the SPA products and a detailed explanation of what we need and she suggest.
The pools and beach always have free seats as to the many pools spread all over the hotel so it won't feel too crowded.
Cons:
Not all the staff speak English
Gym is open only from 9AM
The Tzitziki bugs noise all day long is a bit irritating, especially in the morning
Minibar is a bit poor with not many products and no replenishment, which is a same for an ultra all inclusive hotel
It's a bit hard to book a place in the restaurant as the APP doesn't work and it's getting fully booked really fast, not to mention the distance you have to walk between each restaurant, it's a huge resort!
Changing the beach and pool towels only once a day and between 15:00-18:00 is green OK but not realistic to a beach and pools resort.
The sauna (both of them) are still out of service
There is a need of urgent maintenance of the rooms and the facilities
The WiFi is very fast but not stable and disconnecting all the time
The room acoustic is very poor, you can clearly hear the next rooms and the noise from the corridors outside
It's not a cheap hotel but it's a very good choice to this side of Crete and if they'll improve they'll be the perfect place to stay at!

Just returned to Scotland before the quarantine rules were endorsed again for Greece. All COVID measures were in place, sanitisers everywhere and the staff did not stop cleaning. They really worked hard keeping everywhere safe for all guests.
We had a fabulous break at this lovely hotel. Food at the restaurants was really lovely, Pithos and Almyra being our favourites. The setting of Cochlias is beautiful and we had a table right next to the beach which was stunning. Chef took me through the gluten free options and made me a gluten free pizza, also offered GF pasta. We were not huge fans of the food at the buffet restaurant, lots of choice but we thought the quality was better at the other restaurants. We chose to go to to Almyra for breakfast and lunch, not as much choice, but food fresher and lovely views of the ocean, Maria and Sophia were so friendly and totally looked after us, especially getting my gluten free bread every day ! Spira bar at the pool served great cocktails, Ilias worked hard keeping everyone happy. Romantic bar is where we mostly sat at night, great for views and cocktails. Well done to Samantha for looking after us there and making sure we were always topped up !
We were booked to go to another part of the world, but that was cancelled due to COVID and we were certainly not so disappointed after visiting this lovely hotel and would definitely return.
